I have started by singing this tune myself, and have recorded the soundtrack to enable you all to join in, by singing the following lyrics :

Mr Taxman, it's not a dream,
We have the money, that you haven't seen,
So turn up Wednesday, and then you will get it,
No.....I'm not joking, we don't like cred..it.

Mr Taxman, we hope you're pleased,
We know that we are, now our debt is eased,
We love our football, especially at Welling,
You're in a mess.....but "Oh we're not telling".

Mr Taxman, that's all we've got,
There's no coming back, cos you've had your lot,
We won't be beaten, we're a te...am,
Mr Taxman, IT'S NOT A DRE...AM.

United......United......WE'RE NEVER BE DEFEATED!!!!!!!!

I think after 25 years the copyright expires on Music. So its a possible we could do a CD, Eric a few others, some fans songs. Easy to produce and cheap as chips.

It's more than 50 years after the original broadcast or distribution of a recording. See link :)

According to wikipedia published in 1954 so it would be out of copyright.

When I downloaded the music I paid for it by credit card, just in case there was a problem on copyright, but I agree this must have expired by now.

Some of my friends have been singing it, and today the postman was having a go, so it seems to be catching on at the moment. It should sound OK when the "Lads on the terraces have a go".

Thanks for your kind comments Lou. The main thought in my mind at the time was to lift the morale of us all, as I could see a few negative thoughts in the minds of a few of our genuine committed supporters, so I felt a short song would maybe give us a lift.

Inwardly, we were all getting concerned how this whole scenario was going to end, and it came as a relief to us all to get past the first hurdle. There is a massive challenge ahead for the club right now, but with the great attitude of everyone in giving support in any way they can, whether it be a scratchcard, an event, a raffle, using the bar facilities, getting others involved, and spending in the club shop, every little helps to lead us on to better times ahead.

If it was felt that sales of a CD of "Mr Taxman" in the club shop would raise a bit for our cause, then let's give it a try. I am sure that more tunes could be recorded, which would be an entirely new approach to raising revenue and having fun at the same time.

United.................United..................We will never be defeated.

What are your main musical influences Eric? Syd Barrett and Dylan seem to scream out.

Andrew, my thoughts normally end up with,The Beatles, The Carpenters, George Formby, Neil Diamond and Shirley Bassey etc. I guess that shows my age, so I like to think of myself as a fan of JLS then it makes me feel younger than I am. :)
