the word is that we will be making a firm offer for Harry Beautyman tomorrow to take him on loan before making the deal permanent in January.
we have had considerable success with players from the conference in recent years. George Boyd, Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail Smith are all club legends. Marcus Maddison looked the business for us before getting injured recently.
if we sign Harry Beautyman, what can we expect?Has he been training full time and is he ready to step up to league one?
we are in need of an energetic midfielder with an eye for goal but will do his fair show of grafting to win back possession. Does this sound like your player?
all the best for the rest of the season. I get the feeling if we don't sign Harry Beautyman, somebody else will. Darren Ferguson wasn't the only League One and Two manager watching players at The Shay last night. Other clubs are following our lead in watching the conference and England C
He needs to spend a bit longer in the conference and Welling need him to spend a bit longer in the conference if they are to spend longer in the conference!
Speculation can only unsettle a player who gets better every week.
He's been all of that and more for us I'll be very sad to see him go if he was to leave i just hope we got a replacement ready with out him we are pretty screwed big engine goal machine and heart of a lion
Let's hope it is not one of those £5,000 escape clause jobs and that we get the true value reflecting his abilities and potential. It will have to be a reasonable fee in January because Sutton United may want a piece of the action. Losing Harry could seriously harm our chances of staying in the Conference Premier and, with respect to Harry and Posh, there has to be a fee which recognises that and helps us to get a replacement. As for George Boyd, let us not forget that we played a significant role in his development when he was on loan with us so Peterborough could help us out with a few players and be sure that their development will be assured.
Did we have George Boyd on loan? I thought he played one game in pre-season and then signed for Stevanage?
Would be a real shame to lose Harry as he's been quality this season and has shown why he was talked about so much when he was at Sutton. However, this does also show to other players thinking of joining the club that if you play well you will get noticed by clubs higher up with Roscoe, Fraser and now Harry seemingly moving up to a higher league.

A loan in advance of a potential move does nothing for Welling Utd, or in particular its supporters, especially if the ultimate fee is as pathetic as recent ones.
I fear it's almost odds on Harry will be gone in January if not before, and good luck to him with full time football, but have doubts he'll be adequately replaced which if true could go a long way to sealing our fate. What would be particularly galling is if he went on loan before the window with no possibility of replacing him. An anyone but Welling Utd first scenario!
I'm pretty sure Harry has a job with the academy as well as playing for us, £20,000 plus add-ons minimum for H. Would prefer we don't sell him to Poshbut if we do then they loan him back to us for the rest of the season.

The only way they can do it, although I believe the loan deadline is 25th Nov. There must be a contract for the loan signing, so I would imagine some clauses would be in that.
I think if he is anything other than in the starting XI tomorrow its done.
I forget the player, but there was someone "rested" or benched with a slight injury in the past, when it transpired it was to avoid risking the deal falling apart if he had got injured in the game the day before the move.
I know that you are dealing with a player's ambition here - and we would wish Harry to aim high - however, he was struggling with an injury for most of last season. As I stressed earlier in this thread, if Harry does move on it has to be on terms which suit us and which give us the wherewithal to maintain our status. Anything less would be an insult to our supporters. So, please, no kerching without a matching replacement.

If there isn't a nought missing from the above then he is definitely worth a punt for Posh.
i'm afraid if we sign him, he will be going straight into the first team. We are short of his type of player and have lacked drive from midfield lately.
not sure I could recommend any of our players for a return loan to sweeten the deal, apart from possibly Nathaniel Mendez Laing.
Bertie, it all depends what's in the contract. If he has a set release clause then that's all we will get!
Well, if it is just £5,000 or so we should keep him until the end of the season - because he is worth more to us on the pitch. Frankly, I would not have thought that Sutton would have agreed to a release clause if his move to Wellling was conditional upon them receiving a proportion of the fee.
If it is just £5,000 and someone offers us £5,000 then there's sweet FA we can do to keep him. As per the terms of his contract he would be entitled to leave as someone has met his release clause. We CANNOT do anything to stop that. Who said Sutton have a sell on clause? The press release from Sutton said we paid an undisclosed fee for Harry and there may not be a sell on clause.
It is frustrating when players leave for low fees but unfortunately we don't have the bargaining power as our pay is a lot less than other clubs. If we paid players £1000+ a week we could demand a much higher sell on clause. Some players may say they will only sign for us if a low release clause is in the contract (just a theory not fact) nd if that means we lose a player halfway through a season because he's playing well then so be it. We have had the benefit of his goals throughout the season. Players looking to get back into the football league may be put off signing for Welling if our release clauses are too high especially when we can't compete salary wise with other clubs.
I have no idea if Harry has a release clause and if he does what the amount is but with the position we are in, we don't have a lot of bargaining power.

We shall see then. As regards release clauses, we should stop offering them. Yes, I can understand why they are offered - but all they do is leave us in the lurch in the middle of a season when we lose a quality player for peanuts and cannot find an adequate replacement. The player gets a good, presumably better-paid move, and we get, basically, naff all - just a position to fill and little money with which to do it. Ffs, we don't even get a sell-on fee - and I would not bet against Harry moving far higher than Football League.

I don't know what players were dissuaded from signing for us this season because of our pay levels - apart from Andy Pugh. However, even if we had even lower-level release clauses I am not convinced that our player recruitment would have fared much better - a number of our players have already been loaned out/moved on.
I don't think they are offered, more demanded by the player.
Again just a hypothetical situation... but player x signs for the club and says he won't sign unless there's a 5k release clause in his contract. Do we accept? Or say ok we won't sign you then? We could lose out on a potentially good player by playing hard ball and then we wouldn't have benefitted from that player being at the club and getting no money anyway!

It seems to me, Polo, that this business of release clauses would form a good basis for discussion at a meet the manager meeting where, perhaps, Jamie can give us the lowdown on the pros and cons.
Jamie talking on radio Kent says that a lot of clubs ( including Conference clubs) have expressed an interest in H but no offers yet. He will definitely play on Tues but whether he will be here after the loan deadline is in the lap of the gods. We are unfortunately a selling club and Contracts being what they are (release clauses included) it is difficult to hold on to players when the time come. Thursday (which I believe is deadline day) will be interesting.
