The club saw something in him and put him on a contract for not much money. Club also had other teams ready to take him on loan and cover his wages so it's pretty much a gamble the club can't lose. I think with the right coaching and fitness it's worth a shot.
I do think there is something about him and with the right coaching he could be a good player. However if he has turned up for pre season unfit then it shows how poor his attitude and commitment us, which sums up a large majority of last season's squad.

I think we must keep hold of him. People with a great deal of experience in football as players and coaches view him as a good prospect. Also, we never know when injuries may strike.

He may be a good prospect. But if you come into pre-season unfit having not put the necessary work in, then he will not progress further and not be of much use to the team.
