Down to 10 just after half time after a moment of madness by Jebb. We defended very well and it was harsh on the lads to concede a late goal. Thought Sean Francis had an excellent game as well tonight.

That was not Charlton U23s either they had 7 or 8 first team squad members playing tonight. We had a good work rate and it was a cruel way to lose. Monakana was at it tonight. Same again on Saturday he scares teams when he gets his head down and goes at them. We coped well when down to 10 men with him as a constant outlet.
I hope Archie Johnson gets a run in the team now. To say he has had to be patient would be an understatement! After Jefford horror show V Haringey, now looks a good time.

Agree Jefford was bad against Haringey but over the years he's been pretty consistent as a left back.
First of all fair play to all our lads for the effort and commitment they applied last night. It was a stronger Charlton XI than I was expected and to hold them 10 v11 for half the game was commendable and they didn't really give our keeper that much to do. I thought Francis, Gayle (in the first half) and Parky (in the second half) all did well and I hope that Gayle's injury is not too serious?? Archie had a rough first half an hour in my opinion but stuck to his task and did well in the second half. Durojaiye probably edged motm for me - I am not quite sure what his best position is but I think his energy around the park and the sheer effort he puts in warrants a place in the starting XI somewhere. Phipps worked hard on his own up top and Jeffrey was a threat on occasions as well.
However my one real bugbear (apart from the brainless sending off of course) is the same as it has been a number of times this season - namely the output from our (wide) attacking players. When they receive the ball it's as if the other nine red shirts on the pitch cease to exist. Their head goes down towards the ball and they have no awareness of what is going on around them. At times when Nanetti receives it we might as well call for another ball for the rest of the players to use?! Far too often they run down blind alleys or lose possession and immediately put the team on the back foot. Whilst I realise that we had 10 men last night and maybe they felt they had to make things happen on their own if they could, throughout the season so far their decision making and end product has simply not been anywhere near good enough - surely one of our plethora of coaches on the side should be able to see this and at least make some sort of effort to change it...?!
A good, committed and wholehearted performance last night but that ought to be a given every week. However there will be very little complaint from Welling fans if they put a shift in like that week in week out.
