Good appointment, experienced manager. In my experience, always approachable and highly knowledgeable of the non- league game and its players. There were times, however, when I thought he was bloody annoying - when his teams beat the Wings! It will be interesting to see who he brings in as his assistant or back-up team.
Whoever he signs he will get them playing. Hes got a good track record and all of pre season to get them organised. Hes not going to be signing many players who aren't good enough. If the club can cope financially then it should be an exciting season and maybe he can bring some of his FA Cup magic to the club, we used to be fantastic in the cup but lately 20 years plus lately we've been utter turd.
Mmmm...........jury well and truly out for me on this one.
Pros - Experienced manager at this level who should know a multitude of players who can/can't perform at this level. Has put together some decent teams in the past. I only know Cbeebies of the four lads he has signed overnight and hope he can persuade a few more of last year's squad to stick around including the ones that had already resigned (presumably under the previous management regime??)
Cons - Has be known to splash the cash and we simply can't afford to try and compete with the Billericays and Torquays of this world and, if we even try, that could lead to a whole heap of trouble. Signed a three year at another club last season yet simply walks away from that and signs a two year deal with us - sorry but that doesn't sit well with me....?! We need to get more bums on seats and the simplest way is obviously by getting a good team together and playing some winning football - however this has to be done prudently. We need to find ways of generating revenue off the pitch and ways to get more people through the turnstiles - we have been lagging commercially for a few years now and I hope MG and others have some ideas in place to improve off the pitch income streams and ideas to get more people to PVR on matchdays.
As I have said before managers and players come and go but Welling United FC is still here and that's why we are all here - as long as our club is not put in jeopardy then I will give my support to whoever is in charge. I think it's safe to say that it isn't going to be dull at PVR next season!

Goalkeeper was on loan AT Colchester. Zack Newton is a fast, tricky, winger who scores goals- 10 in 20 plus appearances for Worthing. Chelmsford fans a mite disappointed to lose Craig B-B, don't know much about the other bloke who was at QPR. But cut them some slack.

Fastest route to extra revenue entirely within your own hands, start winning some FA Cup or Trophy games. Not regular income but get that to happen and it buys you time to do the rest.

Agreed.....and play winning 'attractive' football......money wise We have to assume that he asked MG for a certain budget and that has been agreed as others have said...this isnt a cheap dealing manager....first few signings are clealy not expensive ones so lets see who follows (cebeebees being the exception I guess)
The manager is the best at this level facts and stats say that,we are lucky to have him, when you think of the others we have had over the last few years, coach after coach and no real manager. The manager can only spend whats given to him full stop. As for players, he is known around the circuit to have the best black book out there & I can see him being very shrewd in the market, as the budget is not the best, just because we may not of heard of a few of the players he is signing, does not mean they are not good players, for example, the goalkeeper is in the England C team, the right back was a professional at QPR, he left there to play the 2nd level in America, CBB was one of Chelmsfords stand out players last season, he has only come for the manager which is obvious as he had him at 3 of the teams he has managed before. As for entertainment, you will see that in abundance because all of his teams play that way.

Yep, sounds good to me. Although he may be shrewd in the market, I would like to think he has a reasonable, competitive, budget to put the icing on the cake.

Agreed, cannot grumble about him at all....
Yes I have completely hated him in the past but that's cos his team' always beat us!!! But he' ours now and I think we are lucky to have someone with his experience.
Can't judge the players in until seen them, I've watched a few vids of Zack Newton and he's like a lightning bolt!
Jordan Gibbons played for Phoenix Rising in the 2nd tier of U S Soccer. The same team that Luke Rooney, Shaun and Bradley Wright Phillips played for. I think Rooney was only released coz he'd done his ACL. That club is partly owned by Didier Drogba too.
Steve King's record in non- league is a good one. Although he's always had a few bob to spend. It's already been said that he must of been offered and agreed a playing budget so let's see what he can do with it. The Whitehawk team he managed last year had a bloody good record from Xmas onwards. I hope he can get the players he wants and knock them into shape pronto. I don't want to be hearing the phrase "We'll judge them after ten games" anymore.

Callum Kitscha (sp??) was the England C goalkeeper at one time....that went well.
CBeebies was excellent first time around but not so good second time (although, admittedly, he was playing in a very poor team at the time) - my Chelmsford spy tells me he performed well for them last season and would have been happy enough if he had stayed.
I have no doubt King knows players at this level and will be shopping around to put a new team together whilst hopefully maintaining a few more from last season.
At least every player recruited won't be from Maidstone reserves...

Shouldn't you be out signing the rest of a squad rather than bigging yourself up on here?
