And in an EXCLUSIVE interview with www.kentishfootball.co.uk the club's general manager, Graham Logsdon reveals the Greatness Park outfit have made several changes as they bid to improve on the eleventh place they have achieved in their first two seasons back in the league.

"Again I look upon it as a further step in terms of consolidating within the Kent League itself," said Logsdon.

"We've had some changes this year, some enforced," he added.

"The first team manager, Gary Davies, has retained his job, with two new assistants."

The club have appointed a new reserve team manager.

Gary Hunt has joined the club from Nationwide South club Welling United, as the Park View Road club have pulled their reserve side out of the Kent League after only one season.

"There will be reserve team players from last season," said Logsdon.

My lasting memory of Gary Hunt will be of his lambasting of the players using foul and abusive language in a voice which would almost reached PVR.  The ref who had already had a word with a couple of players on the pitch for using foul language immediately stopped play and went over to him for the traditional talking to.  Hunt fearing that the ref might banish him from the 'dugout'  began offering profuse apologies before the ref had got within 20 yards of him.  Foul mouthed bully to wimp in 10 seconds flat.

Bruno, Have you heard anything about this season? Strange that the club have not mentioned anything? They are having a lot of trialists for Pre Season i wonder if he will get a big squad and use trialists too. Ade is quoted that we had 14 on contract last season and 4 on just expenses and we need a BIGGER squad.

Perhaps the club will invest all their funds in the first team? Surely they wont judge the values of a reserve team on the shower they had representing them laqst season. Capital League or Suburban League, something like that is needed or not at all. I fear the club may elect the latter after nothing has been said. I know Ade wanted to oversee a P.A.S.E set up.

Are we keeping the Under 15s who finished nr the foot of their League?

JGFC, can't be of much assistance - information on reserves is a bit like hens teeth.  Last I heard was that reserves were withdrawing from Kent League (which they did), that we were to have a proper reserve side, and we would have an under 18 side (advert for players was in local press.)  Its all gone quiet on the subject of a reserve side and they would have had to apply for whatever league they wanted to play in by now.  I believe Capital League member clubs were agreed by mid June, and I would imagine that the Suburban League member clubs have also been agreed by now but there is nothing on their website.

The teams in the Capital League South West  Division (courtesy of Salisbury City website)  are Berkhamsted Town, Chesham United, Dulwich Hamlet, Farnborough Town, Harrow Borough, Hendon, Salisbury City, Slough Town, Windsor & Eton and Yeading.

I haven’t been able to find out much about the sides are in the North East Division.  The only sides that I know are in this division according to their websites are Dagenham and Redbridge and Hitchin Town, though I imagine Bishops Stortford, Gravesend, St Albans, and Thurrock will continue – not sure about Redbridge and Waltham Forest.

All in all I suspect that we will not be running a reserve side or someone would have heard about it by now.  We must be the one of, if not the only, Nationwide South side without a reserve side and it shows.  It's a great shame but if the cost was to have eaten into the money available for the first team squad I would have opted to put the setting up of a proper reserve side on the back burner.  If this years team play to their potential and we gain some success hopefully the crowds will improve thereby generating more income which could go towards the funding of a reserve side next season.  A question for the meet the management meeting next week perhaps but not from me I'm afraid as I'll be in Peterborough.

As far as a PASE side goes I think Ade would be overcommiting himself  if he were to oversee such a side; he and Barney have more than enough on their plate building a successful first team.

I think last years 'reserve' side was a gamble which we lost since none of the players managed to shine at that level of football.  There were a couple of players whose opinion of themselves far exceeded their ability - don't know if they've talked their way into being included in the 10 trialists.

As far as last years U15's go I really have no idea, my days of involvement in junior football have long since gone.

Over here in Sussex they have just announced the anuagral 'Midweek league'  Eastbourne Bugger won the county league reserve premier for the past 3 or 4 seasons and have long complained that the bridge from reserve football and conference South level is far to large, and I agree on this occasion. To ask a player to move from County reserve level to Conference south

So the 'senior' teams from sussex being Crawley,Bognor,Lewis, Eastbourne Bugger,Burgiss Hill,Hastings and 2 others I cant think off are forming a league of 8 teams and it will always be played midweek hence the title the midweek league. It is being formed with the Sussex County league on board. Maybe to much travelling but maybe Welling could apply to that?

Reserve football is important but only if they lay at a level that will allow them to step up to the first team and for blooding youngsters.

last years under 15s, plus the basis for a future reserves/pase team in the under 18s methinks.

If we are looking to the under 18's forming a Welling side in 2006/7 it would have to be a PASE side; we followed the reserve side route last season and look where it got us.

I would still prefer to see a proper reserve side but if it is to be a PASE side surely we would seek to recruit youth players not offered pro terms by League sides which is what we did with the highly successful YTS(?) side which included Barnes and Finnan.

Thanks for that, you say 25 were there. what were the coaches like, who were they and where from?. What ages were the other lads and what clubs were they from before? Local or League Clubs? How many trials are there planned, have the coaches said how many are being kept on? Where will you play home games?

Thanks and Good Luck.

Just trying to see if we are being more professional with the non first team players. The reserves last year were local lads. Just seeing if we've spread the net further with players and staff from League sides like we did previously when successful. Also have we learned from our mistakes.

This Forum is for Reserves/Youth, the more we know maybe a few we go and support the teams.

Only having a bit of friendly banter JGFC.  I knew where you were coming from.

I feel reasonably sure that we won't have a reserve side next season cos someone somewhere would have heard about it by now.

Personally I don't see that we will attract many former pro club youths for an under 18's Kent Youth League side.  Had we been setting up a PASE side I think that may have been a more attractive proposition to those who didn't make it with a pro club.  Our successful foray into recruiting ex pro club schoolboys/youth was when we had the YTS scheme, or whatever it was, where the deal was continuing their education and getting quality training to develop their football skills, thereby potentially giving them another bite at the pro game.  Whatever else anyone may say about Kevin Hales it cannot be denied that he did an excellent job on their development as footballers.

I would hope that last years experience has taught us that we have to be crystal clear whether we have a youth team or a reserve team.  The essential difference being that a reserve side should play at a standard where it is appropriate to include first team players needing to regain match fitness and where the side develops potential first team players to the point of them making the squad.

Last season I was spectacularly unsuccessful in my attempt to get some support, other than family or friends, by posting info about them on the forum.  In all honesty I can't see there being much support for a Kent Youth League Team.  I would be very happy to be proven wrong but my gut reaction, which is based on my experience of under 18 sides, is that the support will comprise a small number of family members and girlfriends.

A message on the other forum says that the ex Wings reserves who were a shower last season have opened up with 2 easy wins for Sevenoaks reserves. Personally, that lot wont have improved... so its no loss, they added nothing to the club, at theast the under 16s and under 18s have a chance to progress. After the woeful reserves last year it was always going to end in them being sacked. Shame the reserves were disbanded we need some sort of reserves and in the Capital league or Suburban.

I suspect that the posting you are talking about was aimed at me.  If they expect me to jump up and wave my knickers in the air they're out of luck.  I stand by all of the postings I made last year and the one earlier this season which seemed to upset some of them.  The truth hurts?

LOL....rest assured...Thankfully Gary hasnt gone anywhere...Still youth chairman...and the youth section seems to be going from strength to strength.

Apparently i hear we have even more teams than last year..all potential fans of the future and who knows, maybe a player or two in the pipeline.

Our youth section seems to be doing fine with the existing committee to me.

Ok so 3 years ago... Hunt and his poor team left

What has improved since ?, We havent found a first team player, and the crowds havent gone up?

Isnt it about time that The kingsmoor is dropped now? And its Welling United Youth.

Surely the idea is to bring players through and they havent done that, Maybe we need a rethink on who is running the youth set up. Hopefully Andy will sort it out. I see one of the teams has gone to VCD, not all sweetness and light either it seems.

Im still not happy about this Fisher /Welling/ Millwall jobshare malarkey.

What has Lisney acheived? and what has Jim Dean done as community officer ?
