I have to disagree Mark - When sharing views/opinions is it not better to know that you are doing so with an identifiable person be that by their birth name or a pseudonym?
If you register with a name albeit a fictitious one and use it when you post other users can attribute your postings to one individual. Anonymous postings in a thread mean it could be one or several other parties and you have no way of knowing which. In a face to face situation this is not a problem as you can quite clearly see who is saying what but on forums unless you have some extra sensory powers this is not possible.
Generally I pay little or no heed to anonymous postings unless I feel that I need to edit/delete them. If you have a view/opinion on a matter the question 'Why post anonymously?' has to be asked and all too frequently, though not exclusively, the answer is I want to stir things up or I want to be critical without people knowing its me i.e. you are spineless.
