....Has passed since Neil Smith was appointed manager. Ben Lewis has gone. No announcements on any of the old squad signing up again or any new players signing....What`s happening ? Are we going to have a squad of players next season or What. Lets have some good news FFS.
It would be nice to have some news, although if you look at the Conference South Guide, it would appear that nobody else is signing anyone and in fact are losing players to Conference Clubs. I can't understand why Ben Lewis went to Maidstone though.
True, you would expect the better players to be snapped up - like Keds and Jamie. Would have thought we should be out there doing the same to the leagues below us - getting the best players. I suppose many take their holidays at this time as they will be back in pre-season in July. Haven't noticed that Bromely have snapped up anyone yet - they are going to be the biggest rival for the Kent based players I would have thought.

Good Post, You would have to think that Smith will bring in people from higher. Not sure he would know the scene in Kent or at this level. Someone posted if we lose players to clubs at our level they would start worrying... Start worrying thats 3 of our best players gone and none brought in or signed up and no news at all from Smith or the Club.
Have a little patience, the guys only been there a week.
I doubt if anyone could pull strings any quicker unless he already had players lined up. Even then by the time you've gone through interviews, terms, medicals and whatnot you'd be hard pushed to do anything in a week.
We must have confidence in the new set up and not get on the blokes back straight away.
Andrew Sam Injuries wrecked his season but could be a key player Steve Harper 2 or 3 goals in 20 odd?? Not up to it Tony Battersby Ill health, would be a gamble as he was paid for not playing Hector Mackie loan ended? Danny Kedwell GONE!!
Keep Moore, Solomon, Perkins, Green and Sam , show the rest the door, none wanted to sign contracts last season and some have been sniffing around other lower league clubs for more money, if they had we may have kept Lewis and Daisy. We owe those who never signed for us Nothing. i hope Adie tells Neil who should go as to be honest neil wouldnt have a clue and neither would Barrie.
If we got them i would say 4 or 5 worth signing from last year, so Neil needs to bring in 13 or so players upto challenging for this league title or we have gone backwards big time. Losing players to lower league teams is not a good sign, neither is the silence from Welling.
Good post and hard to argue with your assessment. I think Mackie was released and could be available. He showed enough potential and improved game by game to be worth a gamble. Great weapon to have on the bench when other sides are tiring.
The large anon post above is from JGFC so treat with the contempt it deserves
We have to wait and see
Just remember those that post here or look at the board that he knows absolutely nothing - remember he had 20 names in thr management frame that were all bolted on - wrong again
It is all made up to wind everyone up!!!!!
Clueless - well I ask you to make your own mind up
A bit rash to say made up, pretty accurate assessment of players in my book - lets wait and see.
As sure as eggs are eggs Neil Smith will have made contact with Ade for his view of the strengths and weaknesses of last season's players before accepting the post and he would likely go with his opinion.
We have lost 3 of the key players from last season and I suspect they will be joined by at least one other in the near future but more worrying is that we still have no news about a management team and that may influence the players decision to sign or not.
Looks like Neil Smith is having a baptism by fire into the world of low budget non league football and I don't envy him in the slightest.

Mark - if the post is from JGFC where do you think he is wrong in what he says. It is really tedious that evertime he posts you come on criticise the post without offering any alternative view.
...It's also really tedius Mark when you make comments on here like "everythings in hand" without backing it up with a reason why. JGFC may often post alot of nonsense but you don't need to be a genius to see the running of the club has been a shambles since the end of the season. We should at the very least have a handful of players from last season signed up buy now.
Players need the security a contract brings. If we dont offer the likes of Ellis Green and Steve Perkins contracts NOW and just leave it, or offer them trials, then we run the very real risk that they could get snapped up by clubs at our level or lower.

I agree that JGFC doesn't see them play- he is very well infomed however. I just find the fact that you feel that everything he says should be dismissed just because its him tedious. He offers more to the discussion, as his email above shows, than Mark ever does.
I don't know the guy, don't always agree with what he says, but some of his points are valid and are worthy of discussion - not just lets ignore him because of who he is and bury our heads in the sand saying everything will be alright.
Why would we put the players on contract NOW when Neil hasn't even spoken to them as he is on holiday
How do we know that those players that you have mentioned are what he wants - we may like them (and I agree with you that I would want to keep some) BUT Neil may have other ideas
Indeed - How do we know that they haven't been offerred contracts already
There are plenty of players out there - some are better than others of course so why can't we find another player like DK BUT better?
I am abosultely sure that NS has players in mind and has spoken to others about coming to Welling
Look the football season hasn't actually ended yet (play offs etc) there is time and I think that when he gets back from hols things will happen.
Clubs like us will ALWAYS be a feeder club for full time higher up teams so we just have get on with it
It just concerns me mark that the new manager is just going to replace members of the current squad, who are intrested in staying, with players who are no better in terms of quality or commitment- a practice thats been going on at this club for years.

Gentlemen (and ladies), can we please refrain from hurling personal abuse - it serves no purpose other than to detract from any point you have made (if you actually made one) and to stifle any potential debate.
Exchanges of opinions, even controversial ones, are the life blood of a forum not personal abuse. I have banned 1 user and they will be joined by others if this continues.

Ben Lewis and others will listen to what the manager has to say and im sure by next week we will have an idea who is staying and who has gone only keds and daisey have left at the mo for certain.
Also Mark, JGFC and all anon lets behave and show a united front for the new management team and new players coming in and try to paint a happy picture PLEASE.
Spudiekins, according to the Maidstone site they've already signed the quiet and reserved shrinking violet (end of season do) Ben Lewis. Do you know otherwise?
