Rob Gier scored, We have signed 3 players and scrapped the reserve team due to "the structure of the league" Hmmmmmm what about the suburban or something similar?
BUT we are planning reserve team friendlies LMFAO how can you just have a reserve team for a few games a season, you either have a reserve team or not!
All on official site. Just say we will be having practice matches using the squad and youth team, although this years 18s are crap and last years have all left... so not many if any of them will be good enough...
Hopefully Neil will have a reserve team in place and set up for next year early as this whole reserve thing has been a shambles!!
When the announcement of the creation of a reserve side was made it said the only problem which the Club hoped to get sorted in the very near future was the ground at which they would play. Anyone know what the problem with the structure of this years League is?
This years U18s haven't been selected yet as the trials are on Monday.Last years U16s had several players with potential and 2 in fact acquitted themselves well in the KSC match with Maidstone and assuming they are in this years U18s one would hope that they continue to develop.
I have had contact with several of last years U18s this week and despite their details having been given to Gary Lisney none of those I have spoken to were aware of the trials until my posting on this forum despite Gary Lisney having given assurances that they would be contacted and made aware of the trials.Draw your own conclusions!!!
I agree that the whole reserve saga is a joke and I dont know how much input there has been from Neil but all I can say is there has to be a link between the first team and the reserves.Any trials should therefore in my view be run by the Club and overseen, if not run, by the Manager.Recruiting a reserve side through a players wanted ad in the local rag and the trials being run with those for Welling United Youth's U18 KYL side says it all really.

Sorry anonymous I do not accept that they have all been contacted unless it was subsequent to my posting.
I have had contact with 2 of them as late as yesterday and today and they had not been contacted.
I will be in touch with those I had contact with on Tuesday (which was 1 week after the players wanted forum carried Liz Uptons post giving details) and Thursday last week later today to see if they were contacted subsequent to our discussions. If they were contacted I will naturally withdraw my comment and confirm that Gary did contact them albeit some time after the details were known.

I think the days of part time clubs like Welling having proper reserve teams are long gone. The cost involved far outweighs the benefits. I'd be more in favour of adopting a lower league club, say in the Kent League or Kent County League, then players could be loaned between the clubs as and when required. I think that Cray Wanderers already have such a system in place with Cray Valley of the KCL, and it seems to work pretty well for both parties. This way, whilst the players would be playing at a low level, they would at least be playing other 1st teams rather than a mixture of kids and sulking first team players in the Capital League.
I have ascertained today that some of last year's players did receive a text from Gary and I withdraw my comment about him not contacting them. Those I had contact with over the weekend have signed for another side and perhaps that is why they were not contacted.
