Just back from the game, I don't think we did that much wrong tonight. Was a scrappy game. Again the Ref was not the greatest but we can't use that excuse every game. Coleman had probably our best chance when he went 1 on 1 with the keeper but used his favoured left foot when his right would have been an easier option and put it over the bar. What was frustrating was that we kept knocking the ball forward in the air and every time there centre back headed it away, it was clear from 5 minutes in that he was going to win every header but still we tried this for most of the game. Blackman again had another poor game I feel and walked straight off the pitch at the end with Maxwell i believe when the rest of the players applauded the fans. Chris Moore had a decent game again and has surprised me this season with some of his performances
We lacked ideas tonight and someone a bit creative in midfield. We shall have to see if anyone is brought in next week to give us that extra something as I believe we have a good squad of players and maybe need one or two extra people to get some results under our belt

Did we play 4 5 1 again? I know we dont have a potent group of strikers but surely 4 4 2 4 3 3 with omari and one of ward and blackman would be better or two wingers pushed up?
I wonder if neil will stick with 4 5 1.

What really shocked me with Mooro last night was that some of his clearances looked suspicously like passes - one in particular was a quality ball. Now whether they were actually mis-hit agricultural hoofs I wouldn't like to say - but it wasn't the Chris Moore I'm used to. I think he's had a decent start to the season.
WHY WAS NICKY WARD NOT INCLUDED IN THE SQUAD? IS HE INJURED OR OUT OF FAVOUR, SURELY HE IS MORE LIKELY TO SCORE THAN BLACKMAN! GOOD TO SEE SAM KEEVIL BACK IN THE TEAM. I BELIEVE THAT MICHAEL JOHNSON IS A BETTER ALL ROUND PLAYER THAN ORLANDO SMITH AND DOES NOT GIVE THE BALL AWAY SO EASILY.
I NOTE THAT DANNY KEDWELL IS NOT IN THE GRAYS TEAM AT PRESENT AND HAS BEEN ON THE BENCH. ALSO THEY HAVE JUST SIGNED GAVIN GRANT ON A SEASONS LOAN FROM MILLWALL, A TALENTED STRIKER AS WITNESSED WHEN HE PLAYED FOR GRAYS AGAINST US IN THE FA TROPHY. WHAT IS DANNY'S FUTURE AS THEY ALSO HAVE DENNIS OLI ON THEIR BOOKS. I AM TOLD THAT HE DOES NOT LOOK FIT AND WAS KNACKERED AFTER EACH OF THE FIVE GAMES THAT HE PLAYED. IT WOULD MAKE SENSE FOR HIM TO COME TO WELLING ON LOAN FOR TWO MONTHS AND HE WOULD GET SOME MATCH PRACTICE WHICH WOULD IMPROVE HIS FITNESS. A TWO MONTH LOAN PERIOD WOULD ALSO ENABLE NEIL SMITH TO SIGN A STRIKER AT HIS LEISURE RATHER THAN MAKE A HASTY SIGNING WHICH MAY PROVE TO BE BAD JUDGMENT AS IN THE CASE OF LLOYD BLACKMAN.
There appears to be a lot of bad blood between Grays and Welling over the Kedwell transfer issue. I'm sure Matt Bodkin would sooner be with us on loan than at Dartford,so the chances of them giving us Danny are slim to zero. Would be nice though.

They offered 10 was told no and GH agreed with Adie that we should keep Danny and possibly lose money, They then offered 15 and were told comeback when you offer something serious.
I think Welling acted correctly and within their rights. Anyone else see Keds coming back when his contract up? Adie man managed him and got him to perform, Danny if you read this. Ignore the to$$ers, stay fit and score goals. And if it all goes pete tong, keep your nose clean and come back home next season.

I thought we really struggled against Lewes to create any chances. For me defence looked solid again, apart from Leon's mistake that led to the penalty - thought the decision was harsh but he hadn't made such a mess of the first clearance he wouldn't have needed to make a challenge. Chris Moore was excellent again - I was sitting with Lewes fans and they thought he stood out. Andrew - you're right he is passing the ball and even when he hoofs it - it stays on the pitch.
Chippy was good in midfeld and Coleman tried his best up front. As for the rest ... I don't like to single out players but what did Maxwell and Blackman offer last night. Maxwell was off the pace all game and Blackman concedes possseeion nearly every time he gets the ball. Also his constant arguing with the officals gets on my nerves. Sort your own game out mate before shouting at others.
My biggest worry was the manager. For me he got the tatics all wrong. 4 -5 -1 with hitting high balls to Coleman. As Polo said they had three big guys at the back who won the lot. Coleman is not able to win and hold it up. He is better running at players and using his pace. Even if he could hold it up there was nobody to support him. What worried me was that Smith seemed to have no idea about how to change this tatic that was clearly not working. His subs were just changes of personnel not tatics. Only pushing Mooro up fron for the last 5 changed things but that was desperation. I also hear a whisper of discontent in the dressing room at his tatics - especially the use of the high ball. We seemed to have started of the season trying to be a passng side, when results didn't work its high balls. We don't have the players for that. Smudger needs to sort this out quick.
Lightweight although it did appear that Smith told them to get stuck in a bit more in the second half
We need as a matter of urgency a striker and a creative midfield player
I don't know if anyone would agree but I think the defence we had at Lewes teamed up with our midfield and foward line last year would have seen us into the playoffs
Couln't sgree more re a striker desperately, someone who can work with Omari and a creative midfielder. Chip is going well, but to be honest he aint no Daisy and we need to address these areas desperately.
The back line looks good but it concenrs me re Mooro, you cant expect the bloke to play every game throughout the season. As another resort we need another centre half or I assume we will resort to Leon playing there and Steve May as full back. Its not my preferred choice but if we can have a guy who puts in goals and someone who can keep the ball on the deck I would settle for it.
Neil should stick to try and getting us up the table rather than thinking about putting his boots on again. If all we have is the long ball which we played to no effect some time last season we are going to get hammered.
If all we have is the long ball which we played to no effect some time last season we are going to get hammered.
I can't agree with that BKK but perhaps they may be upon definition of hammered.
The bottom line is results and in my book being hammered is beaten by 3 or more goals. In the league that has happened only 23 times in the last 10 years (which includes 3 years in the Vauxhall Conference where the figures are proportionally greater than the subsequent 7 years). The worst being a 5-0 hammering we got from Margate in the 2000/1 season. Only one of those defeats came last season when we were beaten 4-0 by Havant.
If you reduce the benchmark to beaten by more than one goal in the 10 year period we have been beaten by that margin in the league 53 times. Last seasons figure would be 5 times.

However it still feels that a losing run may arise unless we adress the issues that have been raised. Does the transfer window have the same effect for us but close at the end of Sept. ie one month later than the league?
I stand to be corrected but I believe the transfer window for clubs at our level is the end of March, 29th last year. Players from League sides are only available to be loaned outside of their transfer windows unless their professional career has ended and a 30 day period has elapsed.

Transfer window for us is much longer than league clubs. So Neil can bring in players. But he has to get rid of those not good enough and bring in better.
Who would you sign now for next season from who we have?? NOT VERY MANY...
Come on Smudger mate this is your team and they play your way,,,,, LETS BE AVING YOU SON! Sort it
