All will be ok give Neil a few more months. We still have the setanta shield, trophy and micky mouse cups to lose to ****e teams. And theres still some teams around us at the bottom we aint lost to yet!
PLUS if its not working, hey lets get some loan players in who arent here to play for the club but because their club wants them playing for someone else.
Where is the defensive cover on the bench and at home.... 15 mins left no subs put on then all 3 put on when losing.
But i can see why a lot of you think he was a good appointment, just look at the results, league table and the fa cup run plus the plays signed on contract and the healthy size of the squad. Promising..... very promising.

tonite was crap and frustating really. The first half we were ok played some nice stuff in patches but didnt get the goal. 2nd half though was miserable and Braintree punished us for not scoring. It was frustating because after a fairly good pef on Sat we have taken a step back. This may all be apart of Mr Smith learning curve. To aid him further in this learning curve though he must spend the whole 90 mins on the bench because 1. He aint that good anymore and 2. He can evalute the game a whole lot better from the sideline he needs to knock player of his Manager title. I can see why JG is getting peed off but JG, we have been spoiled the last two seasons with AP, this year will be middle of the road be patience and it will come.
jgfc. You obviously have a BIG passion for Welling United. You (in my opinion) talk a lot of sense (sometimes) about the running of the club.....but I SAW THE GAME TONIGHT. The first half was BLOODY good. If we played like that all the time we would be sitting in a play off position. What the f**k happened 10 minutes after half time that turned us into relegation fodder is beyond me. Neil Smith must be tearing his hair out. Two different teams turn up for each match. One is one touch football, the other hasn`t got a clue how to pass it to another red shirt. I think the players need to get last years will to win attitude NOW and combine it with the nice football they are capable of playing, more often. I see where you are coming from.. but dont see it being Neil Smiths fault.
Of course its Neils fault, Its his team, he signed them, he wants them, they play his way, he is supposed to coach them, motivate them, train them (or get staff to do that)
Is it all Neils fault? well apart from blaming barrie for appointing him when other far more successful and qualified candidates are turned away every time we interview........
Now the chestnut, why do we only apply people with no experience?
My reasons
1 they want the job and wont be strong to ask for money for players etc etc 2 they arent good enough to get us promotion (if they are just cut the budget in the play offs) 3 i could go on but yipppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeee kye ayyyyyyyyyy feck it! .. oooh one more they are dirt cheap and paid less than most players in this league!!

Ross Montague, may have been a loanee, but he made a difference out on the pitch, fighting for every ball etc.

Ok it might be Neil's fault that the performances on the pitch have not been up to scratch, but you need to look deeper at the lack of ambition for a club that for the 'catchment area' and potential support, should be doing so much better. (Not that you have not already done that...I just want to drive this home to those who still don't 'get it')
Overall responsibilities are with the board. In Welling's case, there is no board. A puppet chairman and a management structure that is thinner on the ground than a hedgehog that has strayed onto the fast lane of the M25 in rush hour does not represent a position of strength for a Conference South team.
No general manager, commercial manager or groundman. Exactly who does Neil answer to. Perhaps it's the club shop manager!!
Get real. Until there are fundamental changes with the ownership of the club, Arsene Wenger would be struggling to keep the club from potential oblivion and the eventual fall from grace into the lower reaches of the non-league pyramid.
Being an original integral part of the WPC/WSU (Co-founder), I implicity know the internal workings of the club and it ain't pretty. There is about as much structure as a game of jenga after about 12 pints.
The club owe the supporters and local community much more than a club run as a hobby.
Gary i take it you will not be at PVR this week. How about being my co host this weekend at Hornchurch (FA Cup v team bath) . Doing a live broadcast including phone in and music from 1.30pm ish
As for people saying JUDAS why are you going hornchurch
1 Welling BANNED commentary and its the best there s online plus LEGALLY licenced to play music. LOL and Dover stopped theres due to the cost lol and others broadcast in crap bandwidth to about 10 people. I do it in 256kbps to 400 lol!! 2 Hornchurch ask me to do games for them and look after me and its a good day out and plenty JD and attentive service (oo er) from the urchinettes.

Many clubs have gone through the mincer and have come back out of it. Most supporters are quick to remind how other clubs have not been able to sustain non-organic growth and have crashed and burned. The argument I suppose is that if you don't try it, you will never know.
What's the difference between a club that has provided the supporters with glimpses and short term glorious success than a club like Welling that has done very little since relegation to the next tier of the pyramid.
Those clubs that have crashed and burned may eventually turn it around and become strong again in the same time space as a club like Welling that has remained static for the best part of 15 years.
It's all about hope and glory for supporters. It's no good being a supporter and being served up humdrum for 15 years without any drama. That's what football is all about.
Just imagine an interview with a Welling supporter. " Oh yes we have been consistantly humdrum over the last decade, but one day I will hope"

Cannot argue with that , Well done Ross. I would be happy with a loan player coming in and trying like Ross. But we should have had a SQUAD capable ready for the start of the season with 75% in BEFORE the friendlies started. We were still looking (and are still doing so) into the season.
Please someone list all of the positives about Neil, then i shall post the negatives, this will be fun!

No defenders on the bench.. No subs made till losing at home Ellis walks out and is allowed back and despite us being gash and down the bottom he keeps him on the bench!!
Sorry but neil hasnt got a scooby and is a guesser who is no better than Parker. He will go and the sooner the better. Hes not upto it and if he wants to save his career he will quit, he may well go on to do well at a club with a better infrastructure and im frankly amazed he took the job if he spoke to Adie when offered it.
Neil Smith for various reasons will not succeed at this club and thats not a slight on him. he faces an impossible task through no fault of his own and is handicapped by a commercial department not worth a w*nk and a club no ambition or professionalism.
Still waiting for interviews from our Auspicious GM in the press, mind you been waiting for one from our chairman for 31 years!!!

Did the Chairman ever sit down at a WPC/WSU meeting? Answers on a postcard. Winners recieve a free lump of cheese and sausage from the executive lounge.....
Yes i did it as a joke in the exec lounge... i was wetting myself trying to keep a straight face when asking..
"So Paul , if we were in second place, and really close to going up and a great striker became available for £20k and he would be the missing link... what would you do as chairman"
"Well i would have to get the finance sorted" was the reply... Jgfc exit stage left trying to hold in the expellation of urine building up!
It was absolute gold that moment, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSHED the chairman bigtime.

The whole crux of this is it is not actually wrong to stand up and say we are going to run the club as it is now. We will be middle of the road and thats all we are comfortable with etc etc, PROVIDING YOU COME OUT AND SAY IT! The fraud is perpetrating a myth that you are actually trying for advancement.
However, it is pretty evident that if you did come out and say it you would find it hard to recruit management and players and may well disenchant a percentage of the support cutting the income stream. Thus it will never happen.
(Note: I have no aspiration to do a Kingstonian, Canvey or Hornchurch but we should be one of two things
1. A side that beats who we should beat and loses to who we should lose to
2. A side that loses to some rank underdogs but also beats sides we have no right to on occassion.)
