I would just make one comment Welling have yet to show that they are a match for most sides in the division. Games are won by shutting your opponents out and actually scoring goals - dominating and creating chances and half chances by the bucketful do not make you a match for other teams unless you find the back of the net at least as often as them.

We just need consistency - maybe if we can get a few wins on the bounce then we will start playing well both halfs and win games
still i know there was a mention of this on another topic but Smith has to stay - I still think we have enough to stay up and will and maybe after this year not being a brilliant season he will have some experience - as he's had a batism of fire anyway and he will be made stronger and next year we push on
Couldn't agree more J. Smith will come good, all he needs to do is sign a target man to play with Omari, a goalkeeper, a decent right back and one maybe two centre halfs as our defence is so poor. This was proved again Saturday after playing Basingstoke off the park!!!
Defenders need to defend and ours DONT!
We are three players from being a very good side, just give Neil time and get behind the team.
I have only seen the home games this season but have come to the opinion that he has to go. Bearing in mind where we were last year, its a big dissapointment to see us where we are now, the thought of beating relegation hardly fills anyone with any confidence when last season we were battling for the play offs.
Neil has built this team and has little else to blame if you take luck out of the equation
My fist choice was Andy Ford. Unless he has signed elsewhere he is the man for the job and frankly the sooner the better.
I still say keep Smith - don't think many people agree with me but I still think he will come good - do an Arsenal and look to next season as I think we will be better
Neil still looking for players, more loans than welcome car finance. still losing to crap teams, out the fa cup. they dont play the same in first and second half or consistent for 90 mins. plus its only going to get worse. if he had any self respect he would resign. his career will be ruined and its not all his fault , there is no foundation underneath him or support. at other clubs he would have lots of staff to help him, Here he has Barrie , Barry and Nethercott and a small budget and no commercial dept and a pi ss poor excuse for a reserves set up.
If i was neil i would walk before his reputation is destroyed.

But that's the thing though - if he does turn things around and I still think he will then he'll be made much stronger for it and Welling could be the best thing for his career as other clubs would be a breeze compared to it!
true but its a massive if and not the percentage safe call. If we go down the club is finnish and gates will halve then we can downsize even more and pay £100 a player and get a school pe teacher as manager.
1 Improve commercially 2 Get a proven manager 3 Scrap WSU 4 Sort the reserves into a league!!
do these 4 things the club will start to improve.
1 hire poor manager and just let him get worse 2 get a joke of a reserves playing every 2 months vs pub teams 3 wait for calls from businesses and dont try to improve commercially 4 silence fans from criticising you and control a fabricated "supporters" association
carry on doing this and you are long odds to survive let alone improve one percent.
I feel sorry for Neil i honestly do, but this club will NOT be any good for him. Id advise him to phone pennock and ask him if it will get better, im sure on that answer he will walk.

I agree about some of the stuff off of the pitch but I'm no expert on the politics of the club and why the budget was cut last year for example - but I do agree going down(which I still think WON'T happen) could mean big problems for the future of the club
Pieman - I can't agree with your analysis of what players are needed. We have a good right back - Leon - but he is in midfield because of our total lack of creative midfielders. Agree with another central defender needed, even if just cover for Mooro and Tony S. A striker is needed and goalkeeper plus better midfielders. Chippy has won me over but Keevil has a lot to prove - did little for me on Saturday. Ellis - hit and miss. Marlon shows potential. We only need a few injuries and suspensions and we are really in trouble. I think the defence is alright but the midfield needs to support them better and take the pressure of them.
There is the need for quite a lot of players and there has been no indication that Smith can find them apart from loanees. The time to get them was pre-season and he was too slow - this is a mess of his making, nobody else. I appreciate that people have different views about the infastructure at the club, but nobody is suggesting that he didn't have the opportunity to sign new players before the season.
Well put, Neil signed every one of these players. He also took the job and had plenty of time to assemble HIS squad. Now, wether the club should be employing these inexperienced people who have never managed before let alone been succesful doing so ... is another matter entirely.

With time running out and Welling becoming more and more frustrated, the game became scrappy and the good passing, attacking football which had looked like getting them back on level terms deserted them.
All the same, a low drilled cross from Robbie Ryan and a further effort on target by Pugh did enough to show when on the top of their game, Welling are a match for most sides in this division. Extract from Kevins Newsshopper article
Of course we are a match for most sides in this Division, but not in the second half. We don't have consistency and who can you point the finger at? Neil or the players? The first half against Basingstoke we played really well. Good fluid passing, man to man calling and going forward. Second half, another team turned out. The defense was less than c**p . The subs were brought on too late. We were down, OK, dont panic, look at the logistics. Basingstoke made a substitution after we gave away a needless foul on the edge of the box. Sub came on, placed the ball and scored. What bloody defence? Neil has had lots of time to secure us some quality players ( if the Hobbins were to give over some money? ) but where are we now? I agree with JgFc on points 1, 2 & 4, but am not in the position to quantify point 3. I hope that I am wrong and Neil turns it around for us, but we need full time players on decent wages and not loanees.............except Ross off course
Completely disagree with your analysis Chelwing, dont know what games you have been watching this season. I happen to think our midfield of Marlon, Chippy, Sam and Ellis are one of the best in the league. Defence is hopeless, Moore, Sinclair, Cottrell simply not good enough. Moore has been great for us the last couple of seasons but has been very dissapointing for me this season.
And a new forward to play with Omari please Neil, the young lad Pugh is not up to it in this league Im afraid.
Hey, but thats what football is about, different opinions.

It sure is about opinions pieman and yours on the defence is way off beam. Moore's just won player of the month for christ sake and is playing a blinder. Young Sinclair alongside him has dropped the odd ricket but looks highly promising. Would return Soloman to defence but Cotterell has shown some improvement recently (before Saturday). In short don't think your view is widely held. It's goals (Omari apart) that are the problem.
Take your point about the Basingstoke game (I wasn't there) but thought your language somewhat harsh and dare I say a bit crass taking the season as a whole so far. I repeat for me the major problem is we don't have enough goals in us which to my mind is bound to put the team as a whole under more pressure.
Spitey, I don't agree..............OK, Mooro isn't the fastest player in the league, but he does give 100% everytime that he plays. Both Sinclair and Cottrell are vastly improving................they always give us their best. Must admit though, young Cottrell needs some springs in his boots. I agree with you about our midfield and even more so without Smudger playing. Chippy and Robbie Ryan have been our players of the year so far. Omari needs someone up front with him..............not soon, but now. Blackman is a non starter, sorry Lloyd, but the goal is that way, you know, where the net is ...........>
