One nil down after 30 seconds. 2-1 up with a minute to go and ends up 2-2. No goals in extra time then lost 4-5 on pens.

Quite an entertaining game and we actually looked like we wanted to win this one. Have we ever won a tie in the London thingy before?

Bruno - the subs are on the main web site now. Doesn't mention the crowd but it was small. 150 max I would suggest. I don't remember any of our players getting a card but may have dozed of at that point.

In responce to Alan - did we beat Cray Wanders in this competition last year or was that the Kent?

Who cares - I don't want to do anything in this cup, it's a waste of time - and we also went out under Ade early on in it

Tell that to the 150 fans that turned up!  With the side we put out we should be beating teams that are 2 leagues below us, should we not.  Lets just hope our first team can turn them over in two weeks time and have a good run  in the trophy.

If we keep thumping the ball in the air we'll lose. They're all quite big at the back and the only time we looked threatening was when we passed the ball on the ground.

Ellis ran rings round the left back ang Marlon played left back but when he attacked them he ran them rugged. I see the solution as playing wide to the wingers.

Muko also looked good once he'd got in the swing of things and gave them a few problems.

Their number 9 and 11 looked their best players. The 9 was a bit of a handful but I can't see him doing much against Chris Moore.

I should mention that Tony's penalty was well taken but the goalkeeper made a great save.

I'd say the crowd was between 100 and 150 although 20 minutes before kick off I counted 8.

All credit to the burger people for showing up too. I was starving half way into extra time and they were still serving.

A response to points raised by various posters.

Chelwing, thanks for the information and yes we did beat Cray Wanderers in this competition last year when 8 of the U18's appeared against Cray's first team and beat them 2-1 away.  Puts last years under 18 squad into a bit of perspective.

pieman, Wealdstone are in the Isthmian Premier and therefore 1 league below, however they did field a side which included a significant number of reserve/fringe players.

J, I care and I'm sure Neil does.  If you enter a competition you do so with the aim of winning and the side which he put out should have been capable of securing a win.  As far as the competition itself goes those who have read the forum over the years will know that I regard it as a mickey mouse competition as far as Welling is concerned though it would have been a measure of the reserve side (to whom I think the competition is more appropriate) to have played them.  As far as Ade goes at least won our first matches in the competition.

Alan S,  We actually won it in the 89/90 season and the London Challenge Cup in 91/2.

Does the loss matter in the scheme of things?  I think not beyond Neil probably learning quite a lot about his squad.

Neil said he was looking for the fringe players to show him why they should be in the first team. Im sorry but we lost to a lower league team at home who never played their first team. You can keep accepting under achievement and accepting it though, thats up to you.

wooooooooooooooooosh!

Maybe he should use the reserves to look at players then? Hardly a morale boosting result, dumped out of another cup this time at home to a lower league team who rested players.

Why do i criticise? basically because he is still messing about looking at players and despite a win vs bromley we are still nearer bottom than top. Also , he only gives interviews to the press after a win. Neil hardly gives you confidence.

I can tell you now, if he is here next season nothing will change, scratching around looking at players approaching xmas and mediocre performances.

his side has just beat an inform bromley 3-1, and the league game on saturday is more important. If he had played a full strength squad & 3 players got injured you would have been the first to moan AGAIN..

i hope he is there next season & maybe your go away and support charlton or someone

Please tell me you are joking rascal.  Bromley came to PVR having lost their last 3 of their last 4 League games and had just been knocked out of the FA Cup - if thats an in form team heaven help us.  You will be telling us next that Welling are an in form team because we have won 3 of our last 6.

As far as the team went all bar 2 of the starting 11 had made first team appearances this season and I wish I could say the same for the Wealdstone side but I can't.  However you try and wrap it up it was a poor result and what does it say about our squad if as Alan S said "we actually looked as if we wanted to win this one".

We seem to have a lot of new people in the Neil Smith Supporters club - are they all Neil in disguise or has he got all his family posting. Interesting that the facts don't seem to bother them at all.

Still - helps lively debate

The team that we put out should have easily beaten Wealdstone reserves. As Bruno said, most of our players have had 1st team experience.  Ellis was the star of the night, he made rings around their defence, but when the crosses went in, there wasn't anyone to meet them.  We kept on playing the long high ball to Frankie Sawyer...why? He's only about 5 foot high and stood no chance of heading the ball up against their defence. He had a good game though, tearing about like a little Whippet.
Omari made a huge difference when he came on, Marlon & Muku were good once they got settled in.
The two young lads that came on were pretty good & made valuable contributions to the game.
All in all not a good result, let's hope that our first team can do better against theirs.

Cynical - you must be joking if you thought Frankie Sawyer had a good game,I can only remember him touching the ball when he took a penalty.

I'm a member of the "Neil Smith fan club" as it's called - at this level you have to give him time - but to be fair at every level you do

Big Sam is asking for more time at Newcastle - it takes a while for a manager to get a team he wants and for them to be successful

we've shown moments of brilliance this season and shocking moments - but there is enough there to be positive - give Smith till the end of next year and we'll be pushing for promotion come next season

I just hope the club show some faith and keep him

I think that's a good call J...........Smudger is inexperienced as a manager. OK, the arguement goes that he didn't sign many players during the closed season, but were his hands tied? Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and stand behind him.

But is there enough to be positive about and surely the negatives outweigh any positives?

He has to show he can compete not scrape away from relegation and go out of every cup early. He also needs to show he can build and keep a squad that is good enough not sign anyone with boots for a few games.
