I'm Still standing!! Despite having a dabble at hogs back AOT 9.0 ABV !!! good grief its gorgeous!! Theres me drinking Halfs and everyone else was asking for a finger (and none of them women)

Must be up for the gold award for the sussex beer festival 2008! this AOT...
I did like the Sussex Gold from the Arundel Brewery, nice and smooth. The Milds were awful Sussex Mild from Arundel and Pukka Mild from Gribble were coffee and dishwater and sock water respectively.
The Hammerpot Brewery's " FNL " (Say it fast) is a new brew and was really nice! 5.8 ABV and all of theirs had racked well and came out clear and good and were well received by the trade and popular.

Had a few from around the UK including March Hare that was ok. But tried one of the Westerham Beers and that was AWFUL cant remember the beer but was recommended and a bit vinegarish, tried one of the Dark Star Ales called Hop Head, tasted of cats piss!! too hoppy and american.

I was the first to try the AOT at the Festival (as they said it wasnt ready)...from Hogs Back and it was absoulutely gorgeous, what a flavour, what a brute of an Ale... i love it! If any of you are going tomorrow get on it! I was there for the trade preview (No rif raf jus trade people) and we gave it a hammering!! And all free of charge as Trade!! I would have done a few tokens!!

Norfolk "Lager" was nice, very light in colour but nice and smooth. Never got on the Ciders or Wines hit the sussex bar mainly then had 30 mins upstairs at the National Bars.

For Me

1 AOT (Hogs Back)
2 FNL (Hammerpot)
3 Sussex Gold (Arundel)

If you really want to do the job properly on the strong ale, absolutely no substitute for Orkney Skullsplitter.

Quite simply, THE NADS!

Please tell me neither of you like any of the Dark Star beers!! and Sir!! how can you say anything beats Hog Backs AOT, and further more sir, that boozer in stone at 18 stafford road or stafford street..... Serves or served excellent beer from sussex ;)

Quite easily, old boy! All down to the palate.

Dark Star Hophead is ok if you like hops. If not you'd be better off avoiding the disappointment and buying a bottle of Sarsons. At least you'd know what you were getting in advance and what to do with it.

Personally i'd go for the following (but this IS just me)

Enville Ale
Caledonian Deuchars
Orkney Dark Island
Achouffe La Chouffe
Schlenkerla Rauchbier

and they cover most of the taste range. (You'd remember the Sclenkerla from the Vat and Fiddle in Nottingham I'd guess)

If there are certain styles flavours you don't like get a beer guide, read the notes before buying and save yourself some money. Ginger beers cause me to flash over and I don't like the taste so there is no point.

I assume you mean The Swan?

Rather good establishment. Probably competes with The Greyhound in Stafford as the best accessible boozer round here now. Unfortunately we seem to be becoming a bit of a desert in the towns round here.

Oooh that austrian stuff? or was that in Worcester? Tried a german / american ale at the Beer Fest began with an "S" feck knows what it was (it was after i had battered the AOT )

That was ok though!! Ah the beer guide..

I have..

2007 and 2008 CAMRA
i have the RAC 2008 beer guide and i have another couple of 2008s!!!

New line of work dear boy, gave up the full time punting wasnt disciplined enough to be stable, great wins , huge losses... Still have some big bets , not my living anymore...

Am trying to get the AOT fed intrevenously via keg !! 2 barrels of the rocket fuel please sir. Ah and the Swan, feck knows although should know as seen that our lot have had their stuff in there!

Text me your gaff again and ill get some samples couriered up... although i think i have your details somewhere on one of my 87 mobile phones
