I didnt get either, but then I didnt arrive at the game until 4pm so I suppose I must take at least part of the blame - but I did get a lovely burger and a hot chocolate so it wasnt all bad - tremendous !!

far be it from me to be more Cynical than Cynical, but perhaps number of Player of the Year forms handed out is directly proportional to the amount of players deserving of being considered ??

Considering the gate was 656 that's not a great deal of votes cast.

Doesn't 50 to consider - refer to the amount of players Smith tried and failed with!!!

What is the fuss about? There was a player of the year vote - some people voted, others didn't. The forms were where they always are. Unless you are very new to Welling you ought to have known where to look.

Mark

They were Kate (blonde lady) and Kellie (darker lady). Kate is a bit of an ex AFC Wimbledon fan and Kellie's dad is the physio at Folkestone. Both were very keen on coming to watch Welling and who was I to argue. Not really sure why Kellie thought you looked like a gangster to be honest. Apparently it had something to do with your coat. I had sent them all the Welling chants and warned them about the perils of being the last one singing and then went and fell into the trap myself. They both really enjoyed the experience and were thrilled to meet Gary. Someone thanked me for bringing some glamour to the game, I didn't realise I had that impact on people.

Glamour at a Wings game at last!!!

They are welcome at any time - especially on those dark dingy February evenings

Mark, I misread the post which is why I made the follow up posting to which nobody has responded.  However, my point is that I saw no publicity about the vote at the ground and obviously nor did 3 regular posters on this forum and the two guys I was standing with who attend all home games and a number of away games.

If highlighting what I consider to be a failing makes me a negative supporter in your book then I plead guilty as charged, however, if just one of the WSU or the club take the comment constructively then next year arrangements could be better resulting in a higher tally of votes.  Its not rocket science to for example give a voting slip to season ticket holders as they go through the turnstiles, have posters at the turnstiles, and/or someone just through the turnstiles to distribute voting slips.

As far as how many players there were to consider we have had 60 players who have made appearances in a Welling shirt this season (and a further 3 who have not to date made it off the bench) - 52 appeared in senior competitions with the other 8 only appearing in the County Cups.  In my book I would have said that a player has to have made at least 10 appearances, preferably more, to be considered for player of the year and using this criteria only 12 current players would qualify which is a long way short of your over 50.

Hi Bruno,

I'll try and answer this one, we actually had the Player of Year vote on WSU desk, I believe there was signage.  The POY vote has always been situated in the same area at the penultimate home game of every season, this is going back since I can remember pre 1988.

Also we are short of bodies on the WSU desk as since the start of the season with our previous manager is hard to motivate people to give up time for all things Welling United.

The way the fixtures have turned out at the end of season has also precluded us from having an end of season dinner/dance, but presentation will be made from my understanding in Wings bar straight after Stortford game, someone please correct me if i'm wrong!

PS if anyone wants to help on all things WSU then all welcome!

Cheers

Matt the hat

Bearing in mind the confusion that has gone on and the technology avbailable to us is it not possible to have an on line vote on the official site?

I agree BKK but we should retain the paper vote too as many don't visit the website

How would you prevent multiple voting at its most simple people voting on line and at the ground?

Andrew,

Whilst your rationale is fully justified I dont think that the vote would be that rigged. I dont know what stops people voting twice on paper now. At the end of the day we are dealing with a player vote for a non league football club not the Zanu PF party

Fair point, but there has to be some integrity to the process otherwise we may as well just let WSU or some other Committee decide it.

Rick Astley used to belong to Blackfen Video Shop!!

was always in there... Funny guy! And was fine when people used to sing to him, even dancing when they did and joining in.
