In the video you will see us get a corner after making a comeback. I caught the ball rather superbly off a deflection high in the air and Abbo said lose it , i threw the ball a la a cricketer towards the half way line, barney went for the ball and took the corner. they went up the other end and that dirty piece of runcorn scum dived 3 yards outside the box as seconds slipped away.
Absolutely tremendous video, for those wings noobs... Names like Abbott, Robbins, Glover, Ransom, Reynolds et al when were were the top non league team in Kent. In the Conference playing in decent crowds travelling near and far .... Its time the good days come back.
ANDY FORD and THE PLAYERS, bring the good times back!!!
ENJOY!!!! 1991 Barnet v The Mighty Mighty Welling at Underhill. in the Conference

brings back memories. we didn't have great results against Barnet but always some great games in front of 2,000 plus. The biggest crowd was just over 3,000 when we beat them 3-2 at their place - Trevor Booker got a hat-trick i think?
We had some monsterous gates even at home and i am absolutely convinced if Andy got them up the table and optimism rises that we could get 2000 a week at home if challenging for the league and Maintain it in the conference

I can't see this happening to be honest - the sky generation are fixed at home in their armchairs!
people in general only care about the manures and liverpools when they havent even been to a game and aren't going to come and watch football non-league - as someone i used to work with has said "why would i want to watch that crap" needless to say he is a man u "fan" - it's just the nature of football these days - people want to sit there in silence telling people to sit down and be quiet(happened at wembley to me) and it's not going to change
why i like non-league so much - can stand, not massive queues to get a beer or burger and can travel to places you wouldnt otherwise go to to watch away games - long live the non-league format!!!!
i agree, i don't think we'd get 2,000 if we were challenging or even if the conference premier. We'd might get 1,000 in this league.
i use to know a lot of people who would turn out for big games but that was before live tv on a saturday, sky sports news etc etc. When i mention how much it is to get in Welling they normally say 'how much!'. People who don't go to premier/league games still think it's too expensive for non league football.

now you mention it ive had comments like that before as well - but what these people fail to realise (and i point it out) is that this money helps the running of the club - it's not like a top 4 team where it falls into an endless pot with their tv money and makes an already rich to$$er even richer - non-league and to an extent the leagues are about real football fans
i still cant wait until the top 4 go into a euro superleague and ill sit back and watch it all implode - just like this greedy 39th game idea
How i wish i was old enough to have experienced them days
On the whole new generation of football fan thing, being 18 I know exactly what you mean lots of my friends laugh when you say you support Welling they can't understand it. To them football is about sitting in a plastic stadium, quietly watching some over paid, greedy players go through the motions to pickup their wage, even some of the poorer welling teams where we have questioned their commitment showed more passion than many premier players!
BUT the thing is to us we never experienced standing terraces, toilets flooded with piss, guys selling peanuts in the stands, rammed stadiums with 60,000 fans for a first round cup match, so to many kids they are born into supporting say Charlton in its current form of happy clapping fans. They dont know any different.
I'm just glad my dad introduced me at a young age to non-league so I didnt end up like them!
Football had to change after Hillsborough and Ibrox. All-seater stadiums are purely for safety reasons. Having often been in crowds of 50,000+ I can honestly say I prefer today's safe stadiums.
West Ham's ground used to be downright dangerous behind the goals. Especially at the final whistle when every lunatic was pushing to get out.
Fighting has dropped dramatically too. I remember at every London derby you'd have morons beating the crap out of each other. I always thought it would have been a great idea to let them fight on the pitch at half-time. Good entertainment.

standing could be brought back - just keep the seating in to stop surges and dont add any extra people in a stand - still give people a seat number but they just dont sit in them - simple and safe - and would help generate an atmosphere across the leagues
I agree with J. It is possible to bring back standing for the benefit of the game (atmosphere etc) Cardiff city have standing in the away end, Fulham had standing at both ends of their ground - whilst in the Prem - until a few seasons ago. It can work as long as it is thought out properly, but even with bits of standing in many of these soulless league grounds they wont have anything on many old style grounds. Give me a Park View Road over a Reebok stadium any day!
