Bit of a wake up call and reality check. I know it was a pre-season game - it was only their second game and they put out a totally different side in the second half. We were out played in every department - we were slow - passing poor and just not up for it. Only in the last 10 minutes when we got our goal did we look dangerous. I felt there was no leader in the side.
Hopefully just a blip and we will now be back on course.
I think the forst word that came to mind for me was lightweight.
A lot of teams aspire to play passing football from the back but not sure if it will work at Conference South level especially when the pitches start to suffer as they inevitably will. Last night we knocked it about at the back quite nicely at times but it still ended up with a route one ball at the end of it. The first goal we conceded was down to losing possession easily in midfield and allowing them to run at the back four.
Pre season I know and it is a young side with lots to work on but when Des Boateng is running the show for the opposition then you have to worry a little bit.
Lets not get too concerned about a PSF loss, I'm sure Fordy will have learnt al ot about his players last night. They are a young side who are still getting to know each other and the Urchins were never going to be easy opposition - remember the games we had against them a couple of years back and they reached the play offs for the Connie South last season.
I share the concern about playing passing football from the back in the Connie South especially with relatively inexperienced players but I'm sure Fordy knows what he is doing as he and Jimmy Dack ain't along for the ride.
Des Boateng on his day is a good player and nobody has mentioned reckless challenges so it may well have been one of those days.
Anyone know what side we put out and who scored?
