I think the saying goes "we were lucky to get nil"
As Mogwai has mentioned if the home side could head the ball straight we would have been in serious trouble. Turner on the bench but I think Andrews only actually had two saves to make...........which was two more than their keeper.
To be honest we didn't play well at all and with Green and Martin substituted at half time and just after we looked short on pace and ideas. I also think that Bognor looked a lot better than a side who had only managed one draw all season.
All in all a point gained rather than two lost on the night.
not too disappointed - i think the main thing was not to lose after saturday's game and especially travelling all the way to bognor on a tues
im stil positive and i know fordy knows what he's doing more than me but i would like for him to not chop and change too much and try to stick with players instead of subbing players at half-time even if we are playing poorly
i know that mind sound ridiculous if we are playing poorly but it wont do their confidence any good to sub them off - we've only lost one and drawn one and we arent in any sort of crisis
I see it as a good result and with no disrespect to anyone i think you are all getting ahead of yourselves a bit...
Watching welling play, i always see the same problems (so far this season) which is the defending. Now i know there is the argument for injuries but i have been to every home game so far and i havent seen the welling defence look solid on any one occasion.
I think at the moment clean sheets are more important on the road than scoring 3 or 4 goals, obviously it would be nice to get both like the Bath win but a good example of what i'm saying is you look at the Hayes game and we are always going to get chances but we need to stop the amount of chances the opposition are creating, i know Andy wants to improve this because i interveiw him after the home matches and he seems a bit sceptical about the defending.
My second point...
We may have made a great start in trems of points but to be honest we have had alot of "easier" games than we could have. What i mean by this is look at the teams Welling have beaten and look at where they are in the league. Also the two draws are at teams in the bottom 5.
As it stands i think Welling could get top half and i would be delighted with that but i still belive Andy is a good enough manager to change things up for the better which might see us sneak a playoff place.
I won't be there for the next two home games so good luck to Andy and the boys.
In games l've seen Welling played this season, they have problems with teams who adopt the offside trap. I lost count the number of times that Welling have been caught offside in the games against Basingstoke, Hayes and Bognor!
I feel they will fare better against teams who want to play football and are not contented to push up everytime the ball comes into their half!
I see it as a good result and with no disrespect to anyone i think you are all getting ahead of yourselves a bit...
we had the best start to a season for 7 or 8 years with some great goals and performances - of course we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves! Especially after the dross of last season. Even after losing at Hayes and only drawing at Bognor I still think we are in for the best season we've had for years. Maybe not promotion but a decent squad with some good football who all want to play for the club and each other. Plus a decent manager. That's a luxury at Welling.
Gary - I assume you weren't at Hayes or Bognor. Hayes was bad but personally I thought Bognor was far worse. It has been said on this board that the test for the side would be how they would respond to a defeat - well this was a poor response. We were poor all over the pitch - defence were regularly beaten in the air in the box. We totally lost the midfield and the strikers looked weak. We constantly lost the ball and then reverted to long balls that the Bognor defence had no trouble in coping with. I doubt we won a second ball all night. We were caught off side on numerous oocassions and gave away far too may fouls.
I was pleased to see Ellis come off - he has been poor for weeks for me. Ryan, who started the season so well, has gone backwards.
We are a young side and it feels that the early success has gone to their heads. They assume they will win games by turning up. I hope that the last two games will show they need to battle to win games in this league. Even poor sides like Bognor will punish you if you don't fight.
Andy's job is to get them going again and playing like the first few games. I think he'll do it but play offs is not going to be easy.
Well i can understand you getting carried away i was just stating an opinion. I am also delighted with our start but there are flaws that will need correcting if we are to get a promotion place.
I like the enthusiasm and everything but i just think its a bit over the top after a loss and then a draw.
I think that it is a credit to the fans that they have remained upbeat despite the loss and the subsequent draw. We are only too aware that this is a young team which has just been brought together and that there are areas where it is very much work in progress. In my opinion the significant difference from past seasons particularly the Smith era and that of several other managers historically when the fans got on the players and the managers backs is that there is confidence in Fordy's ability to develop the team.
Personally I would like to see the squad develop this year and make an assault on the National next year and would like to think that a play off place is the albeit private ambition of the management team.

doesnt this so show how far we have come though in a year? Cast your mind back a year and we would have given our left arm to have a manager and team like we got now. I think that the last two results were good in the fact that it proves that as good as we are this year we still are not the finished article. The Thing the team needs most now is our support! Let's stop a all this talk of play offs and concentrate on winning and just see where It takes us
ah well it wouldn't be welling if we didnt slag of the players after 1 loss in 7 games.. martin going backwards ?? well i spose if you score a hat trick on your debut thats the only place your gonna go !! i spose hes only scored 5 in 7 mind you , terrible return from the left wing !! Oh and JT must be useless hes only kept 3 clean sheets !! shame on you chelwing
I think they are doing well and we know we could have a few mares. BUT aslong as they learn from the mistakes and improve over time everyone will be happy.
Of course everyone would like to think we can sneak in the play offs, but lets sneak in under the radar no need to expect it to happen.
I agree people have faith in Fordy so lets hope the players get back on a nice run and get tucked in just behind the leaders.
Loads of young players, even Ryan has said yes he would love to get in the league but hes happy at Welling. 5 in 7 from him Charlie has 4 ? and this is a new young team. Much to be positive about. try not to slate individuals as this is the most upbeat we have been for years.
When it comes to the last 2 months the pressure on some of these teams. Chavant, Chelmsford AFC Bandwaggon will be immense as money wise some will need to go up or tighten the purse strings. If we can be in with chance Andy can wind them up and tell them to go get it. But we have to be patient and just be content that things are looking up and we might be good enough to get in the shake up.
Weve still got some nice cup runs to come and if they keep improving we could have a great season.

I love these anon postings - almost certainly weren't at the games and yet feel able to criticise people who were. My point is that after a great start - lots of goals and good football we have become a bit unstuck and it is now time to get them going again. I think that this side is far more talented the one Smith assembled - but to be honest the performace at Bognor, and less so at Hayes, was like the Smith performances of last year.
We have the ability to turn this around and I will be offering my support for what its worth. But some players are under performing and they need to look at themselves. If they can't take a bit of criticiam they shouldn't be playing at this level.
