2 things to consider with this point

1.Any cover would have to cover the WHOLE end otherwise our capacity would be graetly reduced as the powers that be will only look to the capacity for that end to be how many you can fit under the cover

2.It would cost upwards of 100k - Money we haven't got - Unless anyone knows of a local builder who would do it for free to get the stand named after him

Sorry - it is getting wet still for now!!

Would it really cost upwards of £100,000? It doesn't need to be anything fancy. Just look at what Thurrock have provided - steel girders as supports & corrugated sheeting on top. Both cheap & effective.

I agree, its a joke that you have to pay £1 to avoid getting wet (going into the seats). Yeah it might only be a pound but it can soon add up!

It probably rained on four match days last season. It really adds up doesn't it?

I don't mind paying an extra pound to sit in the stand, money to the club at the end of the day.

As I said earlier, just wait for my lottery win, then none of us will get wet smile.gif

but we are just going through a mini-blip but as someone said only 1 loss in 8 games - if you'd said that to me at the start of the season i would have jumped at the chance so im not complaining!

the roof is definetly out then - i dont care about getting wet but just for the atmosphere they help to create but that's too much unless someone wins the lottery and hands over a cheque

A joint venture with Erith and share costs, if that fails the club could sell umbrella hats .

I must admit, I prefer sitting in the old stand and resting my poor old bones.
As I haven't been to many away games, I tend to stand behind the goal with the rest of the Wings supporters.
Brilliant atmosphere  smile

What about football foundation grants etc, not sure whether we would be able to get any after we recieved some for the new stand not too long ago. In reality though id rather see any money raised used where it is most needed i.e. on the team etc. just a roof would be nice and create an even better atmosphere!

And anyway even if we did get a roof at one end we would still get wet if it rained as we swap ends at half time!!

Take em to Upton Park and would probably cost you a one-er! Seriously wrap them up, umbrellas, flask of soup ... its a right of passage and you could turn it into a plus.

It would be nice wouldnt it?  both ends covered but only way that will happen is if someone injects sackloads of moolah or a fan wins Euro millions and pays the club 200k as a gesture (and gets a life time exec season ticket for all of his friends and family. ) LOL.

THE MONEY WILL BE COMING SOON CURTESEY OF THE BILLINGS FAMILY WHEN THEY TAKE OVER THE CLUB. THEY WILL PROBABLY BUILD A WHOLE NEW GROUND FOR US, BUT IT WILL BE NEAR BRANDS HATCH AND WE WILL HAVE TO PLAY IN A CELTIC KIT.

I recall having a chat with Barry about this a couple of years back when picking up my Charlton tickets, and I'm sure he said they had too many objections from the flats opposite the ground.

Dear Hengist

You'd not need a covered terrace at Brands Hatch.

Take a straw poll next home game and work out how many people would be prepared to travel even an extra 3 miles. At this level a fair percentage of your roll up audience is down to those who can get out of the house at 2 and are back by 6 (sometimes with the aid of the wife's boot!).

Would be interesting to note how many of Erith's non-'travelling' i.e casual support made the move with them.

So to start another discussion, if Welling ever had to move from PVR, would you support them wherever they moved to or would there be a certain distance over which they would cease to be 'your club'

Personally, I couldn't see the point if it was outside the radius of Dartford, Bromley, Dulwich and Fisher or north of the river. Would cease to be my 'local' identity at the level of football I have done most of my watching. And that is from someone now living 140 miles away.

Note: I can vouch for the fact that you don't shrink if you are left out in the rain!

Personally I couldn't stand moving from where we are in the current climate. New grounds now have all the facilities but they're souless places out of town. Welling might not be the best place in the world but you've got two bus stops right outside the ground going in opposite directions, walkable from the train station, shops, pubs, betting shops, nail bars (ok that was a joke). It's also easy to get to for driving (A2, M25) and lots of back routes to get there locally. Imagine driving anywhere near Bromley on a Saturday.

If ever we had to move it would have to be in the borough of Bexley. If we weren't in Bexley I doubt I would go.

Someone asked me if I had ever been to Reading. Yes - train station - shuttle bus - ground - shuttle bus - train - home. Could have been anywhere really.

Got to agree with Gary.....wouldn't ever want to move from PVR although it could do with a bit of a facelift. If we ever did it'd take a huge amount of soul searching to go anywhere to watch what wouldn't be Welling United.

You only have to look at the poor attendances when we had to play mid week at Ebbsfleet and Dartford. A lot of people walk to the ground and it is doubtful if they would travel - especially as far as Brands Hatch.

It would all be down to parking for me. If I could park easily and safely I'd be prepared to travel a few extra miles. Parking is a problem at PVR with the nearest car park at the back of the Nag's Head. I used to park right outside the ground until they built the cycle lane.

Damned cyclists get all the privileges without having to pay road tax, insurance or be licensed.

Personally I would love to see Welling move very close to Epsom but I can't see it happening. Somewhere like Brands Hatch would make life very difficult as I don't drive.

As for getting wet - pay the £1 or take the soaking, or depending on the wind direction pay the £1 and still take the soaking. Personally I like to mix and match.

I got on my bike for the first time in a few years to cycle to Bromley last year. It nearly killed me as did one particularly blind motorist. This year I will be fitter and get less lost but no doubt the lunatic motorists will still be there. For putting up with them we deserve our privileges.

Wear a coat is exactly what i did for the friendly against Charlton as it absolutely pissed down throughout the match, but i didn't mind as i got to hear some good chants  :D Sometimes i'll sit in the stands, sometimes i'll stand amongst other Welling fans at the Park View Road end. Depends how i feel, and it has nothing to do with the weather.

If we moved it would have to be in the borough and we would have to remain as Welling United. If neither happened then it would in all probability be the end of the Club.

If some ****s come in and think they can kill a clubs identity move it 20 miles and feel they can carry on... they can fcuk right off.

If however they want a stadium very close to PVR , keep the clubs name and RED KIT and badge and identity then i am sure the supporters would listen at least to the proposals.

If they killed the club off then the Family (billings smillings hillings whatever) would be the biggest james hunts in the game.

Its Welling United. They play in Welling and whoever takes over the club if they do (it could be the hillings millings shillings posting this 80||0x after all) better run it properly as a continuation of its curent form and identity. Or i for one will strike down with almighty fury on the stains that took over etc etc blah blah and they wouldnt want that.

I knew I could rely on your measured response if I started the debate JgFc!aww

On a serious note, whether the earlier post is speculation or has any grounding, it doesn't hurt to know views, albeit if we are only a vocal minority.

We may not always all have liked what we have but I think we all have fairly consistent views on what we would have liked less! (that is all of us, not just JgFc and I).
