After thinking on the way home i was going to rant about tonights performance i will try to be a bit more sensible.
Tonights performance was shocking, i have no problem with losing to a better side, i do however have a problem with losing because of effort. The Whytleafe players chased every ball down like there life depended on it and fully deserved the win. The tactics appeared to be completly wrong. We started with Martin, Ellis and Dorian in midfield and had no ball winner which really cost us throughout the game.
i spend a lot of money and effort going away to support the team and the WSU also work hard to provide money towards Andy Ford's budget, it would be nice if this same effort was shown by the players.
Well I am going to have a rant after last night's shambles.
This team has potential but potential is all it is and is worth nothing without attitiude, committment and desire which have been sadly lacking these last few games.
Now I don't know who picked the team as AF is on holiday (pre booked I believe a long time ago) so can't really pass judgement on that. Saturday was poor and I have no problems with shaking things up but this was not a shake up it was panic stations.
Rob Quinn had a poor game (like all of them) on Saturday but has been solid and consistent for the most part and brings vital experience to the team. Sonny Cobbs is best in central midfield and played a big part in keeping us up last year. Along with Nurse and Blackburn that meant four central midfield players on the bench and Ryan Johnson (who has done well at full back) playing in central midfield ?!?! CLUELESS
I am a fan of Ellis Green but he has been poor all season and a shadow of the player he can be. Healy comes on at the weekend, looks disinterested, tries a few fancy flicks and then sulks when it doesn't go his way. His reward...........a place in the starting XI last night ?! CLUELESS
Andrews was playing Kent league football after Dover ( a Ryman One South team last season lest we forget) let him go and yet he regularly gets a start in our team while Chappell, who helped to keep a couple of clean sheets in his games in the team, kicks his heels on the bench. CLUELESS
The only potential this team has at the moment is the potential to slide down the table rapidly. It needs some experience throughout the team and some players who actually give a s**t whilst on the park.
One more thing - Welling United play in RED. Why can't we wear red shirts away from home ??
Wingnut was right. This isn't just about the players - although some were awful - its about attitude. THe lack of fight was shocking and as soon as we went 1 down it was game over. Never won a second ball - failed to even compete for first ball. We also seem to have no plan B - We change personnel but never tatics.
Clueless is the right word. Like Polo I have been to nearly every game thie season but last night I fought why bother if they can't make the effort.
Andy has to turn this round - this isn't just down to the players perfoming poorly - it is down to attitude, preparation for the gmae and tatics. And that is down to him.
agreed at times players seemed afraid to get stuck in - was one incident towards the end of the game when mucu made a great run into the box from wide and had a shot that the keeper saved and the ball rebounded and was just bouncing in the box - 3 whyt defenders jumped on it to get rid of it while our players just stood there watching it and only made a half-hearted attempt to get to the ball
shocking really - and im always the first to try to be positive and get behind the team but after last night is showing im totally deflated although i think we started the 2nd half the better and they scored against the run of play and i think the team just felt sorry for themselves and as a unit gave up
I am glad that all these points are being brought up, wingnut you make some very good and valid points, on the Andy Ford holiday subject you would say if it was booked a long time ago let it go and to back up my view on that you would like to think Jimmy Dack is qualified to at least level 3 in his football badges and can after 12 games put out a line up which would give them a game.
Ryan Johnson at centre mid you having a laugh he has been are best player at the back and gives 100% EVERY game why change a good thing?. Dorian ' LOOK I CAN PASS A BALL' Smith in place of Rob Quinn, Jimmy get in your taxi mate Dorian can pass from centre mid and that is it lets take out are captain and battiling midfield player who would get in there face and stick it to them, Joe ' LOOK I CAN WIN A HEADER AND HOLD UP THE BALL' Healy up front what the hell 11 starts one on the bench and a one goal return that is not good at any level and we must look to bring in some one who will at least score every three or four games, i fill Healy could be a great addition just behind the front two but up front not going to work what do you lot think?
It is like what you are all bringing up as a point, we have all played ourselves and no matter what 5 a side, 11 a side even a three and in goal knock about you want to win the last few games i have seen that has not been the case as in terms of effort and pride with many of are players, if any of the players are reading this RUN FOR EVERY BALL, JUMP FOR EVERY HEADER, TRY TO WIN EVERY LOOSE BALL WITH A TACKLE AND LOOK BOTHERED and even if we lose Sat i know with the above being shown the lads behind the goal myself included will clap and sing you off. COME ON WELLING!
Well that was a complete shambles last night. I don't think we would have scored if we played all night. Has to be one of the worst results in recent Wings history. I know others will quote Clevedon and Wealdstone but they were a level above that lot we played last night. Whyteleafe deserved it and we are looking at another relegation scrap if we keep on like this.
A big game against Bishop's Stortford on Saturday. Lets forget about the last few games and get it back together.
