The Under 18's North Kent League played in the Twenty2 Challenge Cup today at home. They played Corinthians from the Central league. Knowing that the Corinthians hadn't lost a game this season, I expected our boys to struggle a bit, nothing was further from the truth, Corinthians went one goal up, and it seemed to take that goal for our boys to step up their game. They got a penalty which " Marco" slotted away and they were back in it, then Two superb goals by "Sadeek" ( Sorry about the spelling) finished it off. Well played boys, the more games you play together the better you seem to get.It was a great game to watch and the ninety minutes seemed to shoot by.Though if you ask your number one fan I think she may disagree with that. This week she waited to hear the ref giving three blasts on the whistle before saying " YESSSSSSSSSS" The final result was 3-1 to Welling and have drawn either Herne Bay or Cray Wanderers away in the next riound. Well done to both the Gary's on this great result.
Excellent display by the squad today and I feel they need congratulating on thier tremendous performance.
so:

The game against Tonbridge Angels on Sunday 30th has been cancelled as Tonbridge could not get together a team, Therefore our boys are now through to the last sixteen of the Kent County Cup.Will have to wait until this round games are played to see who we will have in the next round. Hopefully a home draw, as in the other cup the boys have to travel down to Herne Bay.
The boys played away on a very frosty day at Ashford in the Kent Cup on the 28th December. Unfortunately they eventually lost 6-4 after extra time. The ref gave both the managers the oppurtunity to view the pitch, as there was an area that stayed in the shade and was frozen solid throughout the game, the boys slipped and slid on this area throughout the game. The annoy thing about the game was that at 89 mins and 30 seconds Welling were winning 3-2 and a throw in we had went to an Ashford player instead of on of ours and after about four passes was headed in to make it 3-3 at full time. We also only had two subs, so once they were used up through injury that was it. Saying all this there were some excellent goals and as a spectator ten goals on a cold and frosty day kept you warm. The hospitality shown by Ashford was excellent and I thougth the young lady who was the ref was a credit allowing the game to flow and showing good humour and understanding. Unless there is some reprieve from the Herne bay debarcle, then that means the boys only have the league left to worry about now.
It appears after protests over what occured at Herne Bay the boys are back in the One Twenty 2 Cup and will be away to Cray Valley, just down the road from Baldon Sports,if they get through this round on the 8th February, they will be at home to either Canterbury or Maidstone in a semi final on the 1st March 2009.Good luck Boys..
The boys played the Quarter final today against Cray Valley at Badgers sport ground Eltham. The lads went 2-0 and then in the alst fifteen minutes two lapses and it was 2-2 and extra tiem.By half time it was 3-2 and then by the final whistle it was 6-2 to Welling. We had 75% of the game again, but we seemed to want to walk the ball into the net for most of the game.Anyway the lads are through to the semi final now, against Canterbury, though we have the home advatage in the next round.Lordswood are through as well and if league form follows, the other side could be Ebbsfleet. Well done boys.
