.........on Wednesday 9 July. When I was there, it was announced that anyone keeping hold of their ticket stubs would be allowed a free entrance to any game. When I enquired on Saturday, I was told that this had ceased on October 1st. I don't recall anyone saying that there was a time span, or read about it anywhere. Anyone else recall this?
Hilarious. It's not really good business when you withdraw a clause that was offered without any mention of an expiry date is it? How much of that money does the club see, by the looks of things not a lot.
My dad tried to use his ticket at the St. Albans match, only to be told at the turnstile it was only valid for the first three months of the season and he paid to enter instead. Obviously neither of us overheard that being announced at the time, and neither did any of those that I usually go to the matches with (although if it was said, I accept being wrong). To be honest, if it had been stated at the time it was only valid for three months, I would still have thought it to be a nice gesture. Still, I suppose in hindsight I should have checked beforehand to avoid the situation.
The ''cynic'' in me would suggest that the reason for doing this was to avoid people using their tickets for the AFC Wimbledon game, which is when I'd imagine most people would use their tickets.
I had the same thing when i tried using it for the Welling v Weston game in October was told it was no longer valid and that was only just over two months into the season, worse thing was that day Charlton were not at home so any Charlton fans who may have come down with there tickets would have been forced to pay. I don't mind paying the money but i'm guessing Charlton fans may have turned round and walked off and we lose out on potential bar, merchandise and food takings. Being a regular at PVR i was disappointed i was forced to pay the money on producing the ticket.
Next time hve a rubber stamp made on ebay where they can change the date, only costs a few quid (like the ones the post office and bus pass shops used to have. with a simple "Welling United - Offer Ends x Date"
agree it does look a bit crap but i am sure the club didnt mean it and they will probably make it up by getting a female santa in lingerie this year instead of a crusty old santa ;)

good - i want the club to make as much cash as possible this weekend
and how people can moan when they have to pay only £10 to get in amazes me....if it bothers you that much get a season ticket

Yes I agree that £10 in this day and age is not a great deal to some people myself included. However with the current uncertainty over jobs and finances £10 can be a large sum of money for a lot of people. I am lucky that my son ceases to be a teenager next week and can fend for himself. But, when he was younger and I was a single parent, there were times when I could not go to cup matches because I could not afford the six or seven quid to get in. Any saving would have been appriciated by me in those days as I am sure it is by many people today.
I love football. Paying £10 to watch Blue Sq sth football is well worth it. I get as much enjoyment out of watching Welling as I do when watching any Premier league club. Grassroots football is the best!
My Son and his Grandfather are both Executive Season Ticket Holders. On the night of the St Albans game Charlton were playing at home but as his grandfather was on hols I chose to support my son and go to the Welling game with him. I even had a joke with him on the walk to the ground about it not being accepted and my son's response was along the lines of "we're not a mickey mouse club you know".
There was no announcement whatsoever regarding the deadline. I spoke to Barrie on the night of the St Albans game about it and whilst he confirmed there was a "sell by" date he couldn't confirm when or where this was announced to be the case.
In my case the issue has absolutely nothing to do with money. It was all about principles and how people should be treated.
I was fully intending to go to the Charlton Vets match on the following Thursday and a few other games during the course of the season. I won't now because, unlike some, I have principles. So, as a result of their standpoint, Welling have in the end lost out on revenue and as a public relations exercise they have scored an own goal.
The club will be pleased to learn that I haven't banned my son form going and will continue to support him financailly with his Season Ticket because he loves Welling F C and of course because that would be an extremely petty and short sighted thing to do if you get my drift.
piss off then if thats how you feel mate. tell you what pm me your address ill send you £15 to cover yours and your sons admission then you will not be out of pocket ok?

I think Charlton fan has hit the nail on the head.
There was no expiry date announced on the night and indeed there was much talk on the night of the friendly and later about how many Charlton fans would use their ticket for the AFC game since they were playing away on that day. Added to this the one person who would have actionned the notice of such a date cannot say when it happened.
You also have to ask were Charlton made aware of the expiry date since more than half of those attending were Charlton fans who may have been looking to attend the Wimbledon game.
Sad to say but what started off as an unexpected and generous action by the Club which got them some very positive PR has left some potential supporters with a sour taste in their mouth and the Club with a spent cartridge case and a blackened and bloody foot minus a couple of toes.

My belief is that tha 3 months valid date was aimed at cashing in on the AFC match. There's absolutely nothing worng with doing that but it has to be made clear to everyone concerned that that will be the case. As it is there will be a few Charlton supporters turning up somewhat disappointed on Saturday and who probably won't then support the CAFC game next year.
What made it worse for me was that the St Albans game was awful and Welling lost to boot!!!

Charlton fan - I agree with your principals and feel let down by the club as not having the decency to announce a 'sell by date '. We could potentially have had a few Charlton supporters turn up to our games when you were playing away. Now you and perhaps others will stay away from the club because of this decision. That is naturally bad news from Wellings point of view. As for the comments made by JgFc, please don't take this as a general opinion by all Welling supporters. BTW , the vets game was really good until Del's unfortunate accident.
Thanks Cynical. The irony of it all is that Charlton are potentially in freefall and there has probably never been a better time to convert a few of them to the Welling cause.
As I've said already, good luck to the Club on Saturday and fingers crossed you'll be playing in the Conference next season.
Cynical since when should ANYBODY'S views be taken as those of everyone?
He had a dig i said eff off if you dont like it, With a name like CHARLTON FAN we wont lose his £10 a year. I even offered to send him a tenner.
Anyway its water under the bridge but i do get the ar$e with this lefty pinko PC ooooh pardon them please we dont all feel like that. Thats the thing that is rotten in this country. let people make their own minds up.

JgFc wrote:Jeepers mate, I never mentioned EVERYONE. I merely stated that not all Welling fans feel as you do. You don't see the point - his son is a Welling fan and is a season ticket holder. He wanted to go to the game. I have four ticket stubs from the Charlton game and was NOT told that there was a time limited on the tickets!!! I was saving them for this Saturday. OK, maybe wrong, but in all essence, how was I to know unless it was made official? I pay my £10 to get in as do others and I want to see the club make money, but, if the club decide to move the goalposts, then, we could have potentially lost revenue. It's all very well saying that you would pay for Charlton Fan and his son and credit to you for that, but, what about the implications? Welling need bums on seats - but, as you are a verdant anti Hobbins person, then perhaps you could come up with a solution. If Charlton were away and Charlton fan and his son brought supporters, would you object?
