Just reading the Bexley Times and he was "gutted" that only 309 fans turned up for Totton. I can see what he means but it was bloody freezing and Totton aint exactly a crowd puller (although they think there something special) especially with so much football between now and Xmas I think fans saw it as a chance to have a week off and save a couple of quid.
we've had loads of home games with lots more coming up. If you needed to free up a saturday or save some money then the Trophy qualifier was the one to do it.
look at early carling cup games or even fa cup matches and it happens everywhere.
Mr. Ford, it would have been far better if you had thanked the 309 fans for turning up on a freezing cold day. It was an ill-considered comment by you!
Do you not realise that there are many supporters out there who are finding it very difficult to make ends meet in the current financial crisis?
Mr. Ford, your comments do nothing to endear yourself to the loyal fans who turn up at the matches both home and away despite the inclement weather and the inconsistent team performances, especially at home, notably against the "supposedly inferior opposition" from Whyteleafe.
Couldn't agree more with john c very ill-considered by Ford. Does nothing for those that did bother to turn up! It was bloody freezing, there's a credit crunch on, many people at all levels opt out of less attractive Cup football not least because of the price and then oh yes the football! I suppose those of us that did bother to turn up (there's a theme developing here!) were not to know it would be a crap performance though we might have guessed from the Whyteleafe experience. Ford's doing a great job but it's not the first time he's shown a lack of grace in his comments. He could learn from Pennock on how to do things properly in that respect.
Mr Ford, you are doing a good job, however I'd remind you that you did not turn up at Whyteleafe and that may have cost us more than a tenner and an additional voice.
You may have a point but you are lacking the moral high ground to make it!
ok fair point fordy has missed a few games , holiday ,business committments, illnesses etc etc so to have a dig at the fans is wrong if hes done that.
lets hope he doesnt miss any games in the near future or i can see a few people having a proper moan.
BUT hes doing well so maybe not rip into him? and i will say again has Fordy actually said what was printed.
Cue a merry christmas post from Fordy thanking the fans for being superb and amongst the best hes ever seen and hes put a weeks wages over the bar to pay for the wine and mince pies that santa will give out at pvr this xmas...
or will he collect £30 off each player to do that??

dont agree on the point about him missing the whyteleafe game - the man is allowed to have a holiday!!
and people are going to shout me down now but i think he has a point
to be honest - it was a disappointing turn out(and im one of the ones who didnt go due to being ill)
i was there and expected that amount of fans. We've only been getting 400/500 for most league games. No way were people going to turn out for this qualifying match.
The 400 to 500 incudes non present season ticket holders. They are not counted when not valid.
Some season ticket holders think all games should be included so don't go to these games.
Personally, I think League, FA Cup and Trophy games are proper games, Setanta Shield possibly, but will only go to KSC or LSC if I have nothing else to do (although 1st team players and Tobi play now so there is more reason to go)!
I think I'll find a club where the manager is happy with the fans and go and watch them instead. The manager of Epsom and Ewell thinks all the fans are lovely so that'll do for me.
I must admit i thought the crowd would be bigger, but when you look at the crowds at other trophy games played that day most of them were just as poor.
