Just answered the door to the local coucillor to deliver a bollocking about the state of Welling
Whilst in my rant I said " and another thing...wheres the coucil investement in Welling United Football club?" He said the council are taking them to court as they have not paid the ground rent on the lease.
Lets hope hes wrong and we are not the next victims on the list of clubs going the wrong way
W@nkers w@nkers w@nkers! You asked a perfectly valid question, and the response you get is that they are taking a financially stuggling football team to court! What a contradiction! If Welling are failing to pay the lease why not actually help the club out by subsidising the cost or something? I'm no economics whizz but it's just an idea. And good for you Bryan Kings KNee for sticking up for the club!
The Council aren't going to help out. They'd sooner get the ground back and sell it to Tesco or the like.
Anyone know what's happening with the Co-op by the way. Did Morrison's pull out. I heard they'd gone sour on the deal because they wouldn't have owned the car park and were at the mercy of the Council setting the charges.
I also heard that on the Tesco site they've found an underground river which is putting that development in doubt.
what a joke - ill be emailing bexley council on monday to ask them about this and how they are trying to see welling as a town totally destroyed - no shops and no football club
local politicans are even worse than the main ones in westminster
I think that's a bit harsh. I agree most of them are useless but I know a couple of Bexley councillors and the amount of work they put in and the dedication they show is comendable. I also think my MP, Evernet is one of the good ones.
Local councillors are well known for getting their facts wrong, particularly if they're on the defensive. Let's wait till we hear this officially. I bet the guy doesn't even know we've got a football team

I have to agree as in the late 70s I spent 6 years as a councillor for another London Borough. I always tried to get correct information but was often fed what the council officers wanted me to know. If your a councillor in oposition its even worse. And regarding not knowing about welling having a football team, I think most people in South East London and North West Kent could only name Charlton, Palace, Gillingham and Ebbsfleet as being local clubs.

Got to agree there mate in my time I knew some top rate councillors of all polital groups plus some others who did not have a clue. I had to pack up as due to a change in job I could not devote enough time to deal with a very heavy workload
I would love to know which party he represents, if he did give you that information he has probably broke confidentiality with the club and the council, he shouldn't be telling you this information.
The club will pay the bills, but ask someone at the council why we pay nearly £18k a year in ground rent and our good friends at E & B pay feck all!
If the lease is in Welling's name we are presumably are the tenants and we are liable for the rent presumably. If we are sub-letting to E&B then its up to Welling to secure such payment as we think appropriate. As for LB Bexley it's public money which I guess the Council is obliged to puruse. We aren't a charity after all, if they didn't I guess the auditors would want to know why.
Mind you I don't know all the circumstances so that could be ill-informed gibberish.
Maybe we should start lobbying the Council to take more of an interest. Perhaps even a protest at the relevant Committee meetiung when it's open to the public??????????????
The bloke was from the conservative party. I guess he knew it was not going to be an easy conversation when I opened with " are you the bunch of clowns that are in at the moment?"
I certainly got the impression that this was maybe a conversation that was one that would be better conducted elsewhere, and he said if the council invested in the club, it would mean higher council tax for all. When I asked about the community he was bereft of answers. Likewise when I asked about the investment by councils for Dartford and Dover football he was clueless.
I have no political allegance just want whats right for me, my family and the town I live in. Perhaps the best way round this one is to ask Barrie directly as to what the state of play is.
As for standing for election, maybe its a bit late this time round but certainly to heighten our profile would be no bad thing, as I stated to him that if we got promoted the council would be the first people aboard the gravy train.
There you go then. The councillor probably heard Welling owed a bit from last year and opened his mouth. How comes E&B dont pay rent? Jesus what do they do? they didnt pay towards the lights, we paid half of THEIR stand (with help of a grant WELLING got and now they dont pay rent. Why cant they just pi55 off and get their own ground they got millions didnt they from B&Q and since then theyve got relegated and squatting. Wonder where their money has gone? Its no wonder SOME dont like them they dont seem to bing eff all to the table. Cant we start an Erith out campaign with the council and demand some funding and help to move forward as the boroughs top football club.

e+b dont seem to bring anything to the club but take a lot out - id like a statement from the club as to what we get out of them being at the ground as it appears to be nothing on the surface
and this answers everyone's question - my email to the council has been forwarded to the relevent department but i dont need an answer anymore as Barrie has been quick to quell the rumours(as he did with the fisher one last year)
I hope the club sue the councillor and the council. If the councillor has indeed mentioned the club are being taken to court thats slanderous.
shows how stupid the people who run local councils are - look at how council tax is totally wasted and they want to increase it year on year
as the old saying goes they couldnt have a pi$$ up in a brewery (they'd have to run expensive health and safety checks first and pay a few consultants for doing no work)
Good on Barrie for making a more detailed than necessary public statement to quash the rumour generated by the comments of a supposedly informed and respected representative of the local community.
I hope the said Councillor is called to task for breaking confidentiality and giving false in formation to one of those he represents. A case for name and shame in my book.

Correct what bruno said about barrie he could just think what a bunch of clowns but hes come out both times over rumours (albeit serious) and given quite a bit of detail and clarifed the situation.
