Not quite sure how doing a sports degree makes you a fake mercenary, although I will concede they are no longer your bog standard Uni team as they were in my day. You also need to understand it is not just football that they have put themselves to the fore in, swimming is certainly another area. In some respects it is a cross between a Uni team and one of the continental model sporting clubs like Eintract Frankfurt, part of which is a football team.
Doesn't bother me about the make up of the team but does the club still get Government funding for the uni that financially supports Team Bath FC??? If so, would this be unique to them?
I imagine they receive Government agency funding for Team Bath via various sporting bodies and sponsorship may be easier to come by as a unit. However, I don't know how higer University education is direct funded by the Government these days
