06/02/09 Chelmsford have released forwards Bertie Brayley and James Baker, and full-back Greg Oates, to make room for the recent additions to the squad.
At the risk of being controversial do you think that we might go after Baker? He did score a couple of goals for us. Of course if we did we would know that if another club came in offering him a few more quid then he would be off.
Also isn't Brayley a reasonable striker? We might want to have a look at him. We are hardly overrun with forwards.
This will all be academic if we can get Moses back. It would be good to have him back in the side.
Needs must and I wouldn't be surprised if he came back as he did a job for us in the short spell he had here. If I were Fordy I would only take him back with the understanding that he would remain till the end of the season - ie sign a contract till the end of April or I'm not prepared to even consider taking you back.
Hopefully these players who won't sign contracts in case another club offers them more cash will eventually learn there is more to be taken into consideration than simply pound notes. Their abilities cannot be recognised from the bench and being farmed out to a lower league side within weeks/months of being signed by a higher league club is hardly a recommendation for progression. The sooner we can return to the team ethic rather than the me me me mercenary approach the better as far as I'm concerned. With the right players with the right attitude playing together regularly the standard of football will be enhanced for us on the terraces and those players with real potential can only improve thereby doing themselves no harm in terms of career progression.

Fazackerley and Ming appear to have seen beyond the short termism of moving on too quickly.
Baker returning would be a tough one as he would have to do a lot to win over many of the Welling supporters. Brayley or Oates could be interesting options though.
We don't have the luxury of seemingly infinite funds which some clubs enjoy. I'm sure both Ady and Fordy could identify partners for a striker who would almost certainly gel (or even a totally different pairing) if they had the funds which are available to the likes of Wimbledon, Chelmsford and Havant this season.

Mark, the time to do that is pre season IMO or invite them to play in the reserves to have a look at them. I wouldnt take a punt on a raw player from leagues below during the season. I think Andy is doing it right by looking at players of this standard or loans as its the percentage call during the season. Hopefully Andy and Dacky will have a hit list of players from lower down they want to have a look at in pre season or in reserve games or they may even be watching them with a view to bringing them in next season. I hope we dont fall into Adies trap of having no one signed up for next year. It would be nice if Fordy signed those he wants for next season from the current squad and then announced it, this would give us a solid base and show others that we have players committed to us next season. the flip side is those that wont sign for next season, he should say thats fine... not a problem but dont come back to us and want to sign cos the terms will have changed considerably IF i have a space still.

When Baker scores his first goal for us, I want him to run to the fans and give it one of these as if to say I'll take the stick but this is how Im reapying ya.
Chelmsford must be pretty boring Duane, seeing as your always lurking about on here! Hope you get beat in the playoffs, whether we're there or not, just to see how many of your bandwagon will be there next season!
As for Baker, fair enough he's gone for the moolah, but if Fordy thinks he will improve the team i will back his judgment, no-one can say were top heavy at the moment, Baker seemed to get on well with Charlie before he went and again last night!
Still doesnt mean we dont remember he p1ssed off for money and wouldnt sign a contract.
Hes showed what he thinks of this club, its supporters, the team mates etc.
TBF i cant believe Fordy has signed him back up... what message does that send out... yep go when you like , dont sign a contract and if it dont work out after youve shat on us... i'll take you back.

I may not be in total agreement with you and Bruno on the Bod issue but I am 100% with you on this one. I look forward to hearing what Mr Ford has to say on this one.
Things have gone very quiet on the Ademola front as well.
I guess Moses isn't coming back so Fordy has to look elsewhere. I don't like what Baker did to us but if he comes back and helps us win matches then that'll do for me. Be sweet for us (and him) if he got the winner in the play offs against the Essex mob - can but dream.
it will take a lot to win me back over and ill be reluctant to celebrate any goals he scores but we do need another striker and he did ok for us so needs must - we arent in a position to have too many morals on this one
but have to agree with Chelwing that it would be sweet for him to score the winner in the playoff final against chelmsford!
I think views on this may be substantially be influenced by age - could be wrong but thats what I suspect. Whatever my views of Baker as an individual may be he has obviously been brought in for his ability and all the while he wears the shirt my views will be restricted to his performance and I would celebrate his goals.
Moses could be a case of tactics by Fordy. What's the point of wasting valuable loan time when we have very few games. If this is the case then obviously it is a gamble since if he does/has become available another club could snap him up.

Dont disagree but I think we should look for a couple from lower down...hey Keds came from Herne Bay...there will be others
Such as Joe Healey?
JgFc is right in saying that players of that level need pre-season trials. They cannot be plucked from obscurity and chucked straight into the first team.
For every Kedwell there have been many more Healey's.
