Hi chaps,

My name is Danny and I'm the author of the European Football Weekends website.

I made my first visit to Park View Road on Saturday and you can read my report and view the photos here:

http://europeanfootballweekends.blogspot.com/2009/07/gills-pre-season-goes-belly-up.html

My report is none too serious but lets face it, nor was the match.

My pal from another website also reported on the day so hopefully The Wings will get a fair bit of publicity from our visit as our websites attract a fair amount of daily traffic from all around Europe and beyond:

All the best for the new season.

"Welling decided to play in white, which was a bit of a surprise considering their normal Red didnt clash with either Gillinghams normal blue or the yellow they wore here.  In an obvious commercial/marketing ploy they switched to a new blue shirt at half time.  It would have been a good idea if they were trying to promote their new kit(s) if they actually opened the club shop to sell them!"

Lol An obvious Comercial/Marketing ploy! My freind you have a lot to learn about are beloved Wings!!

Nice article though mate

Thanks...I know Welling very well as I used to be a regular a few seasons ago and knew quite alot as to how the club was run under Paul Parker.  I even helped with the programme for a while.  I had a bit of a disagreement with the late Mr Hobbins and took my business elsewhere.  Have always looked out for results though.

Reason for the kit change is simple, there are not enough of any single kit to accomodate all the current squad plus trialists etc plus we have a new home kit coming out soon so until thats available we are wearing our away strips!

High praise indeed wink

Which report were you referring to? The first or the second one?

I dint take too much notice of either, although the first one would have been a bit better than the second one where he made out he was some kind of local hero.

Hi Half Man Half Bisuit, just read a report and to be honest I found it easy to read and the colours were pleasent on the eye. However, I got the impression it was about yourself and your day out at Welling rather that a report on the match itself. I thought the pictures were good but in the way that they were laid out I would have appreciated a paragraph underneath. All in all alot better than I could do, but I would suggest that you channel your talent on your team and progress from their.

Thanks for the comments.

I can only speak for the first report as that was the one I wrote.

My site does tend to concentrate on the matchday experience as a whole rather than being just another 'match report'. There are plenty of publications that do that much better than I ever could.

I also TRY and put a little bit of humour into my reports and don't tend to take things overly seriously. Obviously, this doesn't sit too well with some people, fair enough obviously.

I only write about European and non league football as that's what I like. With regards to being patronising, well, I would much rather go to Welling United than Arsenal, West Ham or whoever and it's quite hard to say that without sounding patronising.

I appreciate your thoughts though lads and thanks for taking the time to reply.

Cheers!

Danny

Local hero lol.....As I said, I was trying to help the club a few years ago and my offers were ignored.  Same with the guy who used to edit the programme.  The whole tone of my article was supposed to be about supporting your local team, but by the sounds of it that support isn't welcome.  If you look at some of the other posts from the previous season or so they all tend to be from non-leagues in England and Europe, and I would say very balanced.  But as Danny says, you cannot please everyone.
