Great result. We won and no wool was pulled over anybody's eyes as to the quality of the team.
We had a lot of injuries, players out of postition, youth teamers and all. I read St. Albans had a couple of key injuries, including Ryan Frater, so destiny helped us threw tonight.
WTF are you on about, the team has plenty of quality , had injuries and rolled their sleeves up and were good enough to go 3-0 up.
How about giving them some credit. No wool pooled over our eyes? F me what it is with some poeple. I have a distinct impression that some of these arent even welling fans.
Well done lads, same again on Saturday, only this time instead of letting a goal in when THREE NIL UP, go and score a 4th.

PS if thats a reg on an anon name i apologise, just getting the hump with people being so negative. Its a GREAT result for many reasons. Now keep it going, we are a decent team all we lost were a couple of mercinaries and Andy has brought in some good players. Clarkey is scoring, Deane doing well, Porno is back, We have Hobbs and Parky two good young players. Andrews and Louis out injured. There is plenty to be positive about. Three points for a start and a bit of confidence.

pulling the wool over peoples eyes is trying to con them. Why would you try and con people that we were a good team?
a completely STUPID choice of words. I would assume the same forumite posted the previous abnon comment about hanging on vs 9 men and a center half in goal?

JgFc, I'm quite happy to put my name to the following.
You had to be there to understand why the negativity as in the last 25 we seemed to do everything we could to throw the points away. 3-0 up against 9 men (a Tom Thumb defender in goal) and we had not one decent shot on goal whilst giving away 2 goals. It was just as well St Albans were so poor in the first half or it would have been defeat number 4.
Despite what many have said I will repeat in my opinion Jack Parkinson is not a midfielder and it showed tonight.
2 positives: 3 points and Jake Hobbs.
Can't wait to hear Fordy's comments on the game.
By the way just before the second half started Bastock said Solomon Shields was sent off for 2 footed tackle. Seems strange since St Albans got the free kick.

For 75 mins we were good and then the last 15 we hit the self destruct button and seemed to panic. A win is a win and if someone had said to me befor the game we were going to win 3-2 with the team we had out I would have said "Are you pulling my pisser mate" so lets not dwell on the negatives to much, we won lets build on it.
Lastly though Protheroe: Im just not sure about him as assistant manager I feel he is a bad apple and I get very negative vibes off him.

Totally agree with the first 75 minutes. Great performance considering the injuries.
St Albans play good football and could have snatched a draw even with 9 men.
The first sending off was weird. Perkins makes a brilliant tackle then the ref calls over their guy and sends him off. Nobody had complained about anything so can't see that it was a bad foul whatever it was. Then ref gives them a free kick presumably punishing Perkins tackle. Evidently it was a two footed tackle for the sending off but then why was it not our free kick.
What really peed me off was that after their goalie was sent off we didn't have one shot on goal. We should have been shooting on site but tried to walk the ball in as usual.
I didn't see one bad foul all night yet there were numerous bookings. Rubbish ref. He really didn't have much to do but made a mess of it anyway.
There were a few mistakes by the defence but all in all I though the team did well.
This is only my personal opinion but I dont feel he is a "team player" I never see him encouarging the players just berating them for mistakes. For instant there was tonight Hughesy gave away a free kick and Protheroe pushed him in the chest to sort of say what you doing. Now to me he is our assistant manager and he should be encouraging his players and to make it worse not two mins later he makes a terrible clearance that puts us under pressure. Basically I do not believe he has the man mangement skills that Dack had with the players I do not believe he has the respect of the players either.
As I say just my opinion and I could be completly wrong and I hope I am.

Spills, at least you qualified your earlier post by explaining why.
In his defence, he is new as Management and is probably trying to find his style and seperate himself from the players to gain some authority, I am sure Andy will be monitoring him and pushing him in the right direction. Maybe he was feeling the pressure and busting his nuts to get the win.

As I say mate im just saying how I see it. Hope I am proved wrong and he goes on to become a great assistant or even manager, time will tell. Well done though Wings great to see 3 points on the board roll on the Staines massive iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

Good performance on the whole tonight but some woeful defending again saw us hanging on at the end. At least we've got the ball rolling with three points but we should have used their 9 men to boost pur goal difference... you never know how vital this might be at the end of the season. We didn't test their number 3 when he was in goal which was a shame. Let's hope we have momentum going into the next game against Staines.
Greavsie always used to say "it's a funny old game" He was right. How many times do you see teams have players sent off then play much better. It was certainly the case tonight with St. Albans. Overall though very encouraging. Perkins had a terrific game winning nearly everything in the air, something that's been missing this season. Does anyone know why there was no sign of Minton and Johnson tonight? Looking forward to Saturday now. Just hope there are no further injuries. We do seem a bit jinxed at present - hopefully Sambrook's injury is not serious.
I must have been watching a different match. The way that I saw it was that we deservidly went three up, controlled the game for the full 90 minutes and never looked in trouble at any time. Got to go now as my nurse is here with my medication.

Yeah i saw that as well. The best thing was that Rob totally ignored him and got on with the game :) Rob played very well tonight and put in some great crosses.
Nice to see Welling fans giving the St Albans goalkeeper nice friendly goodbyes when he got sent off :D
Illogical, I know, but I thought the team played better when St Albans City had a full complement of players - and I fancied us to score a few more goals while they had 11 chaps on the pitch.
It seemed we had players out there who dug deep (despite carrying knocks). I wonder whether our threadbare squad will be joined by players coming back from injury on Saturday?

Could n't disagree more Bruno. Parkinson looks equally at home in midfield to me. He and Sam Hurrel played particularly well in central midfield last night and gave St Albans the runaround resulting in the SA no.4 being subbed after 30 mins!
Lots of positives last night including Clarke's improved performance. Minton, Cracknell, Johnson, King were you watching?!!
Really good performance last night from the boys. Credit to the St Albans keeper, he helped keep the scoreline down for them and the only reason he got sent off is he was left to fend for himself for most of the match. He was right about the ref though...Those who were there know what he said!
Hughes and Deano were brilliant, as was Clarke although me and Ben thought he was a bit out of puff near the end. Mitten made a couple of fantastic stops and Hobbs made himself a nuisance all night. We did die a little after the keeper got sent off (lots of possession, but no shots at the 12 year old they had in goal) but a win is a win, the team are starting to gel more now and that is only a good thing. Can't make Staines, but if we play like we did last night, a good result should be on the cards.
Chris, I was indeed watching and until the last 25 when 9 tails got up St Albans were a much poorer side than I had expected based upon their last couple of results. In the last 25 they should have been at their weakest both physically and mentally, having already played with 10 men for about 35 minutes and having just had their keeper red carded leaving them with 8 outfield players. We should either have been able to protect the 3 goal lead by playing the ball around (where the midfield play an integral role) and making them chase it or bang in more goals - in my opinion we did neither
The positive I didn't mention was the return of Perkins. There is a lot he can teach some of our side and in my book is a good signing though he is likely to pick up a few cards.
Clarke's quality has been evident despite the fitness issue. He is getting fitter though still isn't fit enough to last the full 90 and in my opinion should have been subbed a good 15 or so minutes before he was. Expect more evidence of his quality once he is fully fit.
Its early days yet with sides still gelling and but on paper I am certainly expecting our next 2 opponents Staines and Braintree to provide a much sterner challenge than St Albans did last night but at least we can go into those games having broken the losing streak.

There we go, instead of some saying oh ffs we struggled to beat a team with 9 men, lets say we had 8 players out who would have started and still went 3-0 to a side in rude form.
VERY POSITIVE wen you spin it like that.
Keep it up and win on saturday then we are in mid table and can kick on and keep improving.
