Taken from Cambridge City Website

"Providing the paperwork is complete in time, the former Northern Ireland under 21 international will be in the squad for the Lilywhites in their home FA Cup clash against Northampton Spencer this Saturday."

I guess this means he wont be playing for us in the F.A Cup this year!!

seems strange we would let him play in the cup - in fact it seems like a stupid idea and the website must be wrong

in reality though guys, he will miss up to the 4q round maybe even that too, where he will be playing for cambs. getting fit nearer to his home is probably a good idea as he will spend less time travelling and more on the treadmill. cup runs are always nice but I prefer a fit, quality striker for our league games from nov. onwards, will be like a new signing!

Yes, it looks like  the beginnings of a permanent move to me too.   Otherwise, why let him play for another team in the Cup? Another cost-cutting measure which could backfire on us. Besides, I thought he had moved to Canterbury.  Not pleased about this - we lose a quality, experienced, striker having tried to help him acquire fitness by playing him early season after his operation.  Then we let him go to another club to complete the process and we lose out, or do we?  He has signed a contract, will we get a fee?

I feel the problem is that we bring in players who are proven at this level and then take the view that they are not. Haswell also proves the pointalthough there were other agendas there.

When you get to the stage that we have played 30 players after 10 games,(accepting injuries) then its a worrying trend in terms of the selction process and trying to get a settled side. Some of those who we deemed to be positives, and I wont name names have not delivered the goods and I am sure that Fordy is aware of that.

The biggest problem we would like to solve is a regular 11 and players fighting to break into that, the sooner the better. Fordy cant influence a lot of that but his choice of who fights for the team is down to him.

We have four other fit strikers in Hobbs, Whitnell, Gaisie and Stone.  It also seems that Lawson may return earlier than previously thought.  If the four fit strikers can produce the goods during Clarke's loan spell (which could presumably be extended if necessary) and someone has to be released in order to balance the budget, it makes sense that it is a striker under contract.
Certainly we do not have the numbers at the back for any defensive players to be released,

Can Tommy Whitnell play tomorrow - has he moved to us permanently from Cray?
