At the risk of upsetting Bruno, I need to make the following comments.
Yesterday marked a low in more than 24 years of supporting the Wings. Not because we played poorly - as against Clevedon and Whyteleafe - but because we played well and got nothing out of it. We bounced backed after those Cup defeats but do we have the determination to bounce back after Saturday?
The team did its best and not only matched Dover in the first half but also, at times, outplayed them. The second half was fits and starts but we still tried to play football and matched them for about 20 minutes. To my untutored eye we are in dire need of a goalscorer and a holding/playmaking midfielder - the type of players who cost and command a lot of money. Whether James Lawson is the striker we are missing - we will not know for several months.
However, the rant continues, we do seem to be missing a spark and a bit of passion. But then, what sort of message does it send to the players when you ask them to pull on a shirt which bears the name of a company no longer sponsoring the Club?
I'm not having a go at anybody, times are hard and the Hobbins family probably have 101 different things to do. But it seems we are missing that commercial edge that Barry brought to the Club before he left for sunnier climes.
Looking at our league position, I hope it does not signal that we may be involved in a fight to stay up. I also hope that our Cup exit does not prompt a squeeze on the playing budget at a time when we may need reinforcements. Charlie's FA tribunal hearing cannot come soon enough.

Commercially we are inept and in times of hardship in the UK it would be very hard to try and gee up commercially.
We need to do something outside the box, the thing is people wont do it for nothing or on commission and the club doesnt have the money to invest in a commercial department.
As i said before, Fordy said he will help improve the club commercially, i see no evidence of this.
Barry Wallis did it for pennies and part time, well done to the man for his efforts but even that was sub standard commercial operations.
The only real cure is a large injection of cash to put the club on a sound footing while the off field stuff is sorted out. You would have to ask Barrie and Barry if that is on the agenda.
Agree about the shirt sponsorship, i wouldnt have them on the site, the shirts or the hoardings, a blank shirt may bring in offers.

Everywhere else you go in this league the commercial revenue seems higher. 1 The bar is a dump and the refit is shocking. 2 The club shop sells nothing and is the worst in the league. 3 Toilet facilities and the main stand are out of date and need re doing, as do the open terraceswhich are crumbling. 4 The out of date billboards and the lack of a sponsor seem to indicate to me the club has given up trying to improve itself.
The only answer is for the Hobbins to step a side and allow some one wth new ideas to take over, or we stagnate!
Guys some good points made, I would love to know if we have come even close to getting a sponsor, some of them boards round the ground that have been there for years are a joke but that is for the Hobbins to sort out!
As i spoke to about with my new wings friend yesterday J the bar at PVR is shocking and after seeing various bar areas in this league i have to say we have one of the most naff - not very appealing for away fans is it ? ...... when there is a pub 30 secs away!
Also with regard to Hales out regarding the clubshop i have not been in there for that exact reason i have been told by various that unless i want programmes to not bother - not having ago at programmes because ( dont dig me for this ) i am a collecter but regarding shirts, tracksuits, polo tops, etc etc we have nothing.
The terraces are also shocking and as a whole with regards to the old stand it all needs a good clean up and lick of paint.
All homes require love and affection, but if I redecorate my house it only makes it more pleasureable on the eye. It's the people inside it that make it the home that it is. It doesn't prevent people from coming round for cucumber sandwiches and sticky buns.
I take the points regarding the state of the bar and toilets (although I don't use them) but where does the money get prioritised?
ELB, Why would I be upset at a well constucted post from a named poster? The purpose of a forum is to provide a platform for debate and posts such as yours above provide something to debate.
Criticism/calling it as you see it is not, and never has been, an issue - you only have to look back at some of my own posts to see that. Persistent anonymous "we'll be in a relgation struggle" with little or no substantiation which leaves no room for debate, "JgFc were you in your armchair", etc are the issue.

Fair point all Trig and n and d, I agree first thing any money should go is improving the team but if we had merchandise it may help slightly and i for one and a know alot of others drink next door or up the nags b4 hand due to selection and the taste.
I just hope that things can turn around, but a few tins of paint and a few brushes are not going to bash the bank are they?

Dizzie!!
So what we are all saying is the ground needs sorting out ?. So if there was a fund set up by the fans i/e get the buckets out, then in next year close season a group of volunteers could give the place a lick of paint, or would the club no no it ?...
Tigger your a wsie man....whats the point a having a state of the ground & a poooo team ?... any money such go towards new better players....
My dear name & dob it concerns me that someone of your obvious intelligence is classing someone of my standing as wise. Let me make it totally clear, I am 156 years old who has been caged away from the public for over 100 years with no one than my nurse to communicate with. I am still not allowed out for too long a period and have to check back into the asylum each and every night. The walls in my padded cell are worn in places where I constantly bash my head against. And someone like you are calling me wise, I'm going back into my cell you've messed my brain up.
Isnt this what "Friends Of Welling" was for that joined or merged or became WSU.
A lick of paint and fixing of terracing wont bring in new people. The bar being painted wont either.
Cold lager, real ale, chilled mixers, wine selection, range of bottled beer, guest beers, hot pies dispenser on counter , air con etc etc will bring in people IF its in conjunction with a commercial dept that can help make the squad better.
anyone got 2 million to put the changing rooms in the corner by the park and smash the bar down and extend the bar the length of the stand and putting in a restaraunt too? and put in 4 exec boxes with flat screen tv and corperate buffet?
there is so much wrong it needs a commercial department as good as chelsea's.
I think the only thing that can help is them selling a huge part of the club to a new investor and having some kind of 5 year plan to transform the ground and commercial dept.

The club bar is terrible. Probably one of the worst i've seen from the few grounds i've been to in the conference south. Before a game we'll always drunk in the oub, and we're not the only Welling fans who do this.
