Its good! he's a well good coach with his time at arsenal and can play and can loves the wings. well good. think he has the chance to become really good.
I like Daisy a LOT, he is also a good player and has contacts, proper contacts. This is a massive gamble though. 50 applicants and we pick someone whos never even been a number 2?
Of course everyone will be behind him. I might tell him when his dogs are gonna win now.
Kedwell back? at PVR?

A brave but positive appointment...Jamie Day plays football the right way and will be able to pass on his beliefs to the players. Not a long ball merchant but someone who has both played and coached at a high level. He also has decent connections with both Charlton and Arsenal - so there could even be a string of players on the way to us . Both clubs will be happy to loan players to Jamie because he plays the game the right way and they know he will look after youngsters properly. And as my close friend Roberto C just told me ( and he knows his onions when it comes to Welling United) perhaps Welling could become Mr Wenger and Liam Brady's ''team of choice'' for allowing young Arsenal academy players to experience the delight of BSS football? I mean we play in Red for starters!
Heart says goood luck to Jamie, head says this is going to be difficult.
Player managers have never worked at PVR and we have given the job to a complete novice in terms of managing when there would have been better and more experienced choices, unless we pick one of these as a no2.
Hears hoping for a change in fortune, but I think this could be a tough one and a huge gamble by the club. I hope this does not turn into another Neil Smith scenario
Daisy has at least been doing his badges, I have also spoke to Jamie a few times since he flew the nest and he always said he wanted to come back (I couldnt post that as he was at Dartford, but Fordy had done the budget). This is just so Welling fans know that he wanted to come back.
It will be really interesting to see the players he can get down to Welling from his contact list, lets be fair hes probably already told the club he can get a few people in.
Arshavin, Walcot and Fabregas warming up at St Georges would be a nice surprise.

Another thing here is, weve taken a gamble on a Novice, Has he signed a contract at Welling? If not and hes a success a club could just poach him as manager.

the fact is he must have a big contact book and im guessing his affection for the club swayed it
agree with all on here it's a gamble but i will stay positive and give him a chance and im not expecting wins straight out of the starting block as he will have to build his own team with the limited resources we have (thanks Ford) so everyone needs a bit of patience and he will come good in the end!
Its a mental appointment but you have to get behind him. The club have taken a monummental gamble and will stand or fall on this decision. they have deemed jamie to be the best Manager from a list of 50 and stated 7 or 8 had managed at our level and above.
Everyone feels a lillte let down by the decision but everyone will get behind Jamie, The only thing is if he doesnt hit the ground running and we slip back to the bottom the toys could hit the fan and the sh1t could end up out of the pram.

thing is i cant see us start winning straight away with injuries and our current patchey form
im thankfull for the win on saturday as he will go into a dressing room with a bit of a buzz but lets not start expecting to win our next 7 games on the trot because no matter who came in that wouldnt have happened
Well as this is only my 3rd season, im in the dark over this one, but like Spilly said, i will be there on saturday & will give Jamie & the boys 100% support .
I think the club know the fans and that Jamie was well liked and that no one begrudged his move to full time football, he even came on here and thanked everyone.
They know he will get support and they know people will get behind him.
They have however really put Barrie and Barry under the spotlight as if this doesnt work then they will get the blame. If it does work then everyone will be saying what a decision, they cannot say its not a massive gamble though.
What it will do is increase the budget as Jamie will play too. So we will probably have an extra and a class player at that for the same budget.

Tend to agree with Spills in that his no2 will be the key-dont think it will be Proths somehow in which case I cant see him just reverting to playing although he has said so in the past.
The No 2 needs to be someone with a good pedigree at this level to guide and shape Jamie, someone like Jimmy Dack would have been good. I dont think we can gamble on someone like Abbo
I used to love seeing Jamie playing for us. I too will be 100% behind him and the team every game. BUT, someone said something that I agreed with, that if the club had a manager applying who'd plied his trade at a higher level or with resonable success at this level, then appointing a rookie or somone because of sentiment over this would be letting the fans down. And I have a feeling that this is what they have done. And I'm a little angry at this and I fear it could spell relegation for us this season.
Of course, I hope I am WRONG. I hope Jamie does a fantastic job, keeps us up, maybe even have a go at reaching the play offs. If we stay up because of Jamie then I deserve scorn to be poured over me from all angles.
Have to echo what everyone else has said that the club is taking a big gamble. There's no doubting his affection for the club and I'm sure everyone will give him 100% support. He has an immediate problem in central defence with King's injury and will almost certainly have to get a new player in quickly. Let's hope he can find a good one via his contacts. The only other slight concern is that when Terry Robbins became player manager his playing form suffered. We have to hope that Jamie is able to do both jobs well and I feel he needs an experienced no. 2 to make the decisions for him when he is on the field. It will be interesting to see who he appoints. I also hope that Lee Protheroe remains as a player as his form has improved greatly in recent games.

When Neil Smith was player manager his form changed-turned out he was rubbish at both roles, quite a unique talent to be able to achieve this near imposibel task
Jamie will pull in an experienced number 2. He must do to give him the best chance of success. Jamie will make mistakes learning, an experienced number 2 will stop some of those mistakes.
How about Kimble as number 2? as thats what he is.
If they appoint kimble as number 2 (and remember theyve saved on wages with day) Then i could see it working from the off.

It seems that Jamie was appointed over a more experinced candidate due to financial reasons. If that is the case will the club go for a more experienced number 2 who will cost more money or stick with the cheaper option of a number 2 who can also play.
I think the club will go down the cheaper route.

im not buying into the money talk although it could have been a factor if the more experienced managers were asking for too much and we couldnt afford them
Didn't see this coming but not altogether too worried. Well connected and a Wing at heart. I am certainly prepared to give him a go. We went for experience last time and look where Ford left us.

Kimble as number 2 would be a good choice if he wants it. Maybe he could become an assistant manager at the club with an eye to maybe becoming the manager, in 2-3 years time if Jaime doesn't work out as the boss. Jaime needs someone to push him and keep him 'honest'.
I'm happy with our new manager, and i don't believe we'll get relegated now.
Well, that was out of the blue! Let us not forget that Jamie did have a managerial/coaching role of sorts at Charlton's academy. Nevertheless, I share the general concern. As others have stressed, it depends on who he brings in as his assistant. It could, of course, be Lee Protheroe as I suspect they have played for the same team in recent years. But I reckon that it will be somebody else who has played for either Dover or Grays. Just a hunch, but probably way off the mark.
In any event, Jamie is the manager of the Wings team and deserves our support and respect - and he will get it.

I'm not sure that Kimble will want to be the number 2 as he held that position for a long time at Gravesend and is probably looking for a managers position now.
Judt got in and seen the news. Bolt from the blue or what. Massive gamble by the Club but I believe that Jamie has the qualities needed to make it pay off.
Have to agree that he needs an experienced No. 2 especially if he is going to play (and boy do we need a player like him in the midfield)
Good Luck Jamie.

Didn't see that coming, but personally I think it could be a good appointment. Good coaching experience (which looking at since Dack went we've been lacking), good player, good contacts, been involved in the non-league - and more importantly kent non-league scene for a long time, good contacts with Charlton and Arsenal.
Of course it's a risk, but sometimes risks are worth taking.
Guesses on the runners for assistant - Paul Hyde, Chris Moore, (Matt Bodkin!!) Robin Trott and former Dover manager Clive Walker. Feel free to add to the speculative list - I suspect we will all get it wrong.
