Now that the managerial position has been sorted and the team are back playing decent football all focus should now be on getting a sponsor. The thought occurs that there are two massive corporations currently vying for the attention of the Welling public where sponsorship of the local football team would tick all the boxes for them whilst lifting the club out of the financial hole they currently find themselves in. So, have we been speaking with Morrisons and Tesco? Supermarkets blather on about their social and community credentials and surely for Morrisons this is an ideal opportunity to create a real presence in the town by sponsoring the local football team just as their new store opens. Add to that some instore promotions trumpeting their link with the team and they will have forged that community link with the town which all stores crave. Of course, if Morrisons don't fancy it then what an opportunity for Tesco to have the local football team running around with their name on the shirts in advance of their own store opening and snatching some limelight from their rivals at the same time.

Seems win win for me for all parties. Someone from the club just needs to get in there and sell the opportunity.

Up the Wings.

I don't know about Tesco, but Morrisons have said No.

Although Morrison's and Tesco have apparently declined the offer to sponser Welling United, the decision may not be being made at local level. Large corporate companies have many people ask for some form of financial aid/sponsership, the problem for them is that they are fearful of annoying others. So it's sometimes better to say no to everyone.

For me, I will still be shopping at Fortum and Masons.
