MR ASHBY,mentions the budget a few times in his interview, not that we did not know already its on the low side,we really do need a sponsor asap, and without a doubt for next season, sadly the one thing i dont think will come to welling is improved attendances this season.
On the subject of attendances. Ive noticed that a lot of the old faces that have been about over the last few seasons are not around this season. A lot of people just haven`t got the money to spend on football at the moment. Credit crunch and all that. I`m sure a lot of clubs are suffering attendance wise. As jgfc is always saying someone, somehow has got to get a grip on the commercial side of the club. Lets face it. It`s practically non-existent at the moment
Yes attendances are mostly down even more need to advertise and try and get people through the turnstiles,
Come on Dartford get well over a average 1000+ for there home games and as Daisy came from there he must know what they are doping better than us to get people in
Welling United FC is a BUSINESS. It isn't upto the supporters to further maximise the profits of a business.
The flyer things, advertising in papers isnt a task that will take hours in a week, its basic marketing. If the club cannot give a toss about commercially marketing the club to make more money, why should supporters do it?
I have no issue with supporters HELPING the club market it. But marketing is non existent.
Mark if you used a nightclub every weekend, and they didnt market it so people stopped going and instead of premium lager they used to serve they sold canned supermarket lager and things went down hill, would you go out and drop flyers and raise money so they can make more money?
However if they started marketing it and you saw things improving then thought lets do this to help them, that would be different.
Any business stands or falls on the ability to be competetive, successful in advertising and attracting new customers while keeping current customers happy.
As many have said we need a commercial department, we simply do not have one at the moment. Its hurting us and restricting us.
We have contacts at the Newsshopper, Bexley Times and Kent Messenger. How hard would it be to have weekly adverts in all 3? Local radio stations are another avenue, people drive about all over the place with the radio on. Its getting the message out.
Ive heard adverts on the radio for Dartford and Maidstone.

I get the feeling the club are happy where they are mid table of BSS, they dont want to be relegated for money reasons and to be promoted would cost the club as well, ie paying higher wages for better players, I think that is why we got the cheap option of manager, not saying Jmaie is doing a great job he is but what will the club do to try and push for a play off place this season
To the people saying they are going to do this and that, just go ahead and do these things. There have been lots of good suggestions so far, but no one is actually doing anything i believe because you are all waiting to see who makes the first move. I get the feeling that the Hobbins' won't change the way that the club is run or advertised, until the fans act first.
Yeah ok i'll go and get a sponsor willing to pay £30k over 3 years, sell 12-20 advertising hoardings, fill next seasons match ball and match day sponsor spots, i will also get phil Taylor, James Wade and co down for 3 exhibitions with all the stage and lights plus get Andy Townsend and Cascarino to do an Evening with. Add in a comedy stor night 3 times a season and the clubhouse is sorted for events. Add to this i will go and get 24 business in the golf day and create a new vice presidents club for 2.5k a year to local monied people and businesses and market the club house for hire. Plus get a load of stars down for a big charity match and market that in the press too.
I will also go and hit every shop in bexley, and get posters into pubs, clubs and shops and create business and personal marketing mailing lists where people casn be emailed and sms'd details from PVR just before a match, a special offer in the shop or an event in the bar.
I will also shove a broom up my arris at the same time and sweep the floor.
In short, it aint my job or your job, its the clubs job. Any "fan" doing it will not do as good a job as a qualified paid person, due to time constraints and morale and lack of personal motivation or accountability.
If the club are waiting for someone to make the first move, thats ronnie rollocks. It works the other way... Get a commercial dept in and the fans can then help.
Any club at this level without an active commercial department is a joke. We have already had Jamie and Basil saying we need to lose players to bring less in and cut the squad size. Just imagine how we could do in this league with a commercial department.

I know that may seem flippant and it wasnt meant to be, and i can completely see where you are coming from Mark and how you see things.
You need the foundation of a commercial department or you end up with just another WSU, where although their hearts are in the right place its just a few people trying to scrape a few bob together and others saying i will do this or that and then not doing it.
Race night, quiz night, stand up bingo? . From what i can see the Band Night 3with Nellies Heros was organised from outside the WSU and that raised 4 figures. Thats probably more than the quizes make in a season.
I will make a prediction, if the club get commercially active and take on a proper commercial team, then the WSU or a new supporter group would get more support.
I will end this by saying those that are in the WSU are all trying to make things better and all deserve praise for being bothered and giving up their time.

I have Just Read JGFC's comments and I would like to say A Thank you to him, As Apart from a very few thank yous, and a letter from Barry Hobbins saying thank you for our Band Night, An Idea Put forward to the WSU by PATSY its the first time Someone has Praised Us For What we have done for the club, and the large sum of money raised that evening from both Music and by donating prizes for the raffle. The Work for that evening was mainly done by the band, bruno,Patsy and Keith, the WSU had next to nothing to do with this. We have been asked back, Which we gladly accepted, but at the moment i've no idea on details apart from a date yet to be confirmed. I placed a post on the site advertising Band Nite II which had no response. Therefore unsure if its what people want!!!
Thanks for your support for the club and the WSU. Hopefully a date for the next Band Nite can be agreed at the next WSU meeting this thursday. I thought the last Band Nite was a great success and I'm sure tickets would sell but the 19th February may be a bit too soon now.

cheers chris, Although my comment wasnt designed as a back slapping exercise. As for "a Bit too soon now" It was propposed to us at the beginning of NOVEMBER and Still not had anyone from wsu approach me on the Subject, I have Spoke with a member of wsu asking to sit down and Sort the details out but nothing came of it. It is A Gig we enjoyed doing and we are looking forward to another night at PVR just want it to be done right.
