Probably been done before many moons ago on the old forum but who can remember their first Welling game and against who what score etc?

Mine was Home to Enfield in I think 88 or 89. It was a 0-0 draw and although we sat in the main stand the corragated iron roof leeked so much we still ended up wet. But man did we have a blast and the scene was set ,from that game onwards we stood behind the goal.

Game in 1977 i think, i'd drawn on the wall as a 6 year old and was sent to bed, my mum bollocked my dad for being mean and he came up and said get ready we are going out to see football. Highbury?? Upton Park?? White Hart Lane??  The Valley?? No! Park View Road it was! I am not sure if it was me or my dads idea but PVR was to become a regular feature until i was about 12 when i started going every game untill 98 when i moved to Birmingham, then it was mostly away games. Came back down south just before xmas and if Ade continues to look as if hes going to drag this club back where they belong i will be at all the home games.

Mate, Goes to show as annoying as local youth are sometimes at games they are essential to groom er,probably the wrong word selection!, for the future stability of any football club. what at Welling do they do to encourage the local kids to come? They should be looking at free tickets to local schools, every week and unlimited numbers of them, kids get hungry and eat food and buy drinks etc etc.And in 5 years there will be a new hardcore faithfull. plenty of young lads around who are now as we were then but they need that foot in the door and unfortunatly you can't always look to the lazy dad these days to take his son to the footy.

I've been going by myself, on the odd occation (spelling?) with mates.

Im only 14 i go to all/most home games and couple away(travel), so how does that stop other kids around my age going?

I think John Is saying that we should be hooking the kids now and in large numbers to make sure we have a great fan base for the future. I agree give hundreds of tickets away... Maybe use the Erith stand as a FAMILY ENCLOSURE for a match or matches?? give free tickets to the Kids when accompanied by at least one parent/adult. The Danson Show would be a great place to set the ball rolling, pick a game and give out vouchers that get the kids in FREE when they bring an adult. Hand out a key ring or mouse mat (Which cost pennies) and a photo of the team to the kids when they arrive.

This is a great time to do something like this as we look at least like we have a Manager who can take the club forward. If we can increase the fan base then the club will be finacially better off and on a sound footing. Imagine it... Welling V Carshalton Crowd 600 plus 100 or so Adults bringing 200-300 kids in for the game. Then set up a Junior Winger club to hook them, Signed photo once a month, Meet the players, Prize draw to be a mascot, competitions, discounted goods in club shop/admission... Sorted!

All essential ideas for the club to ebrace in order to build the fan base. Okay in the late 80's early 90's Welling were in the conference and Charlton not at the Valley but we had 1000 every week.A lot of the younger guys who went then like myself now have 2 kids+ ,those guys would come back I reckon but need some pushing, free tickets, clubs, JGFC has the right idea.

Top respect to you Marshmallow, but also you got to get your mates along with you every week, what School do you go to ,Welling ?

JGFC,do the Hobbins have anyone in charge of PR and advertising? a commercial manager? It should be the first and only at this level in my opinion full time member of staff. If not they need to smell the roses and look at this thing in balck and white, crowds of 500 at Welling! What the hell is all that about??

I stopped going about 7/8 years ago after being a regular for 15 years. My boy is now 6 and I took him to see about a dozen games last year. Depending who was on the turnstyle some weeks he got in free others I paid £2. I reckon all under 12's should be free every week as this would encourage dad's to bring sons along. As you say earlier you then buy a burger and a drink, quite often I have a pint at half time/after the game. All this goes to the club. Good idea to target the schools. Got to be the way forward to get a new generation of fan. Hopefully when we are near the top of table this year crowds should be up but I think we were about the 5th best supported side in the division and then was when we had a shocker especially at home. It brings home what the club can achive when you go to places like Thurrock thta made it into the play offs and had 300 people for a local derby and 150 of them were Welling.
