Engineering work between Lewisham and Dartford via Eltham
There are no train services calling at Barnehurst, Bexleyheath, Blackheath, Eltham, Falconwood, Kidbrooke or Welling. However there are connecting replacement bus services, calling at these stations, operating in each direction between Lewisham and Dartford. Furthermore, there are unfortunately no train services operating in either direction between Blackheath and Charlton. Passengers who wish to travel between Blackheath and Charlton can use the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), between Lewisham and Greenwich. Valid rail tickets will be accepted for this journey on the DLR This engineering work may also affect train journeys to or from the following stations (in alphabetical order):Abbey Wood, Chatham, Denmark Hill, Gillingham (Kent), Gravesend, Greenhithe (for Bluewater), Higham, London Bridge, London Cannon Street, London Charing Cross, London Victoria, London Waterloo East, Nunhead, New Cross, Peckham Rye, Rochester, Strood or Woolwich Arsenal.
London = one of the most pathetic cities on the planet
i know even Boris has been getting involved in all this but it's a a joke that they can't have the trains or tubes running on a weekend
I don't think it is just London. If we had been travelling further down the line to Basingstoke we would have had a bus from Woking onwards and when we go to Weymouth there is a bus service between Wool and Weymouth which will put over 30 minutes onto the travelling time.
Having done that trip between Wool and Weymouth on a fair few occasions I think the bus will be AT LEAST an hour with traffic and various stops en route. You drinkers will need to give yourself plenty of extra time.

Corr blimey, by that time we'll be well oiled and I'll have to tie a knot in it to avoid wetting myself
Train from Wimbledon - 37 MINS FROM PLATFORM 8 (GENERALLY)

It would always be platform 8 at Wimbledon, but it seems a very long way round. Pick up the Sidcup line and change at Waterloo East, that way you can get the quick trains to Woking.
Just to add to the confusion there is no Jubilee Line running from North Greenwich into central London on saturday either.

Like it or not work has to be carried out on our transport infrastructure. I suppose its better to do it at weekends and at night so as not to disrupt commuters. I am affected this time as I need to be at Heathrow by 08.20 on Saturday. Bus to North Greenwich, Replacement bus to West Ham then 2 underground trains. In March was going to Stratford upon Avon by train but so much engineering work and changes it will take 2 hours less by car. Anyway its not just Londons problem. Last year in Greece there were no trains from the Aiport to Central Athens for 6 months as they were building new stations. I suppose the answer to traveling to away matches would be a coach but would this be supported or a waste of time for someone to organise?

ONLY TRYING TO GIVE A COMPLETE ALTERNATIVE (IF NO CAR) AND NOT GOING THRO CENTRAL LONDON
No problem getting to Woking at all...what are you all worried about...just a short trip up the M3
You wouldn't day that if you were coming by train to so you could have a drink with the lads. There is engineering work between Basingstoke and Woking so you would have to get a bus!!!
Do I look like I care what relevance it has to this thread? JgFC is keeping quiet I see.
We cant establish whether you look like you care as we are fortunate enough not to be able to see you ... shame the same cant be said of seeing your posts. Go away. Wait til Saturday ...

Get a life and let the game speak for itself - if you win, you win, but don't spoil the good banter between the decent Woking fans and ourselves.
Guess I see things a little different over here in Seattle. I would love to have a public transport system 1/2 as good as the one in London (even with all its "faults") - compared to the system in Seattle. The nearest bus from my home to work (a 16 mile commute) runs only twice an hour, takes just as long as the drive because we all move on the same stretch of freeway. The rail is similar, 2 trains per hour - no "underground" in the city, and the new light rail, while promising, is still under construction and none of the open lines are any help to me yet.
Having lived and worked in London, albeit 12 years ago, I always appreciated the buses, tubes and trains that were running, more frequently and reliably than just about anywhere else I've ever lived - I guess a lot must have changed in the last 11 years.
