Basingstoke Town have received confirmation from the Conference statistician that Mitchell Bryants 6 goal haul at Weymouth on Saturday sets a new conference record.
It is the first time that this has been achieved in a conference game in any division since the Conference League began in 1979.
Bryant was presented with a gift in the 3rd minute following a mix up between debutant Terras keeper Tim Sandercombe and defender Cameron Mawer. Following Sandercombes airshot Bryant had the simplest of tap ins to open his account. The Town striker showed no mercy as he added a second on 25 minutes and three minutes from half time stroked home a rebound from the crossbar to complete his hattrick.
His ruthless streak continued in the second half with goals on 53 and 62 and completing the scoring on 73 minutes converting a Jahson Downes cross from the right. Two minutes later the home side were spared further torment as Bryant was substituted to an ovation from the travelling support.
Tim Sandercombe's debut in goal for Weymouth clearly wasn't good for the youngster...surely a good barrage of banter from behind the goal tonight could well hinder his nerves a little...
Any danger of a washout tonight? A couple of CMs of rain forecast for most of today...
