Still awaiting news on striker to replace Andy Pugh. It was generally agreed on the Forum this week that we badly need a goalscorer after the poor display against Bath last week.
Agreed... John.. Tommy Whitnell needs help up front. He doesn`t seem to be as dangerous without a main stike partner. However. We must secure his signature for next season ASAP.
nonsense Dave, absoulte nonsense. No pace, no height, no real skill like a Finn or Orlando Smith, a poacher, but without 10 others working their nuts off there is nothing for him to poach.
Yes, one for the future perhaps, but personally I think there are going to be better options available to Jamie come June/July ... although I suppose money comes into it too.
Dear Kev, regarding 'just like Finn', Finn 20 starts 1 goal Whitnell 21 starts 14 goals. Stop drinking its clouding your judgement, and facts are above.
The use of punctuation suggests my comment meant "no real skill like Finn or O Smith", which is true, he hasnt got their skill. It did not mean he is like them in general. You're his mate clearly. How many of his 14 goals were decent goals as opposed to tap-ins ?? 4-5 perhaps ??
I dont criticise lightly, he is a goos player, but I still maintain there are going to be better available come the summer. Fact.

Not convinced, sorry. How many headers did he win yesterday ??
Sheringham for example, scored 17 for B Stortford in about 15 games, yet the fans there were caining him.
Whitnell upset you or something. His finishing has been top draw and his general play has improved. Thank god you're not the manager as you don't seem to have much idea about the need to sometimes cut our cloth accordingly. A real gem for us this season the scoring charts do not lie.
Clarke has lots of goals, all penaties, Whitnell has lots of goals, Heskey would be nowhere near pub league if it was all on goals scored, same as Crouch and Defoe cant get near a start for England. Its all about opinion, but sticking it in the net is not the be all and end all, Whitnells goals have largely come from other peoples brilliance and not his own.

Completely disagree with you but was wrong to personalise it!

Id keep him, youll see in my other posts I suggest offering him a deal for next year, I just think his goals flatter him slightly at the moment, but long may it continue.
Poachers are often better than so called goalscorers with flair. Give him a chance he buries it. If he scores the goals that win us games then you play to HIS STRENGTHS. Since pugh has gone and we messed with wingers and had no one for Whitnell to play alongside we have lost 1 and won 1 and scored 1 goal.
I think its a bit strong criticising Whitnell and most seem to agree. We would do well to bring someone in better and he would be one of the first offered contracts in my book.
Keep going Tommy and Kev will buy you a case of beer when you score a hatrick against Weymouth.

Tommy Whitnell scores goals from few chances. It is an art, and a precious one at that. I cannot believe we are even having this discussion. Tommy is a natural goalscorer, end of. Daisy rates him highly and so do, I suspect, a number of other managers. Sign him up now Daisy before he slips the net.

Against nine men though Bertie .. fair enough, Im not caining the guy, I said hang on to him for next season after all. However, I really think we will be up the business end next season, and still think there will be better options, but Im happy for Whitnell to prove me wrong.
Whitnell has been a real find this season. I would not be suprised if a few other clubs are sniffing round him considering how many goals he has got.
If the end of this season goes like most other seasons then those players that have played well will be snapped up by another club who can offer more money. Last season it happened with the exodus to Woking. When Pennock was in charge the good players went to Grays. Would not be surpised if Dover come a calling with Mr Parmenter's big wallet.

Great call ELB. Tommy will get better and better as time goes by. I feel he must be given every chance to play a free role up front, on the wing, or wherever he wants to roam. Lineker was a poacher, same as Le Tissier and they did the job.
