That was the number of hardy souls who bothered to go today's match. Well done to them (and me). But that low attendance is disgraceful and an insult to the efforts of our team who have performed so magnificently in recent months.
I really do not understand the level of this turnout. It is almost as if the attendance level goes down when the team is successful. In my opinion, if this club was in deepest Kent the attendance figure today would have have been nearer to 1,000. What is it with occupied Kent's citizens? The club's owners must be tearing their hair out - many Saturday attendances when the team was not doing very well in early season were better than today's.
Bexley does not deserve a club of this calibre if most of its population can't be bothered. Light blue touchpaper and retire, pleased with the result but seething at the low crowd (small gathering) because, ultimately, that will take its toll on the level of players and standard of football that I travel a round trip of 130 miles to see.

Charlton at home and not great weather probably knocked a few off. If we are in a play off position on Easter Monday lets hope for a bumper crowd against Dover.
Ebbsfllet playing Luton must of been a greater attraction to the floating supporter but then again Dartford got just over 1500 today against Maidstone,
Maybe advertising the game might be better we must look to why a team in a lower league can attract that many more than us

hit the nail on the head
and also there just isnt an appetite for non-league footall in this day and age with the glamour of the chequebook league
as we were talking about in the guy at half time - most kids these days support the man u's and liverpools so im resigned to fairly low attendances thses days unless we do go on a good cup run in the near future and get a few fans to stick with us because of it
Charlton v Gills Ebbsfleet v Luton Dartford v Maidstone Crap weather.
4 reasons Berties for the size of the crowd. I didn't think 461 was too bad taking all that into account. Let's stick to the positives and stop looking for any negatives.
We have had competition from Charlton etc before, and bad weather, but still had some bigger Saturday crowds when we were doing poorly. It is not being negative to state that we had a very poor crowd (fact) and that such attendances could have an impact on the calibre of the team in the future. If nothing is done about it, and nobody mentions it in the hope that it will go away, that would be negative.

A few factors spring to mind. One probably being that Welling are most likely a 2nd team to most people. Premier League, Champions League etc is as popular as it's ever been, what with wall to wall tv and newspaper coverage. Secondly, I've said it before and it ties on with my first point, is that the club hardly put themselves out there in the publics' imagination. Dare I say they're doing a rubbish PR job. I do my best to bring friends who support other teams to games so every time I turn up there is an extra 30 - 40 quid in the club's coffers from the gate alone.
One issue which may boost the Wings' attendances is car parking spaces. I understand that the club may have approached Bexley Council to use some of the car-parking spaces near to the ground in Danson Park. There is a footpath to the Park entrance to the ground.
Obviously, in early season in August and the beginning of September, there may be limits to the extent to which that car park can be used for matches, although that may only be one Saturday or one weekday evening a fortnight.
If Dartford Council can build its football club a state-of-the-art stadium, charge them a peppercorn rent and, allegedly, help the club with the running costs of community facilities, then providing parking spaces already available is the least that Bexley Council can do for its premier club. Perhaps they could light the footpath on matchday evenings and dark afternoons as well? I wonder, also, whether a deal (offer) could be done (perhaps with tokens/advertising in the match programme) for visiting and home fans to use the Park's facilities, visit Danson House, and have a meal at the Danson Stables Pub/restaurant?
Also, the move would take the pressure off parking spaces along Park View Road and side streets.
Time for another campaign, methinks.

If you're talking about the car park by The Stables then I don't think there's anything stopping you parking there already.
It can get crowded though and it's still a bit of a treck to the ground from there, coming out into Danson Lane then down Roseacre Road.
The car park behind The Nag's Head is nearer although you do have to pay a small fee during the day. I think it's free after 18:00. It'd certainly be the one I'd use if I had to.
There were 20,024 at Charlton yesterday which must have included some that would have come to Welling.
I don't know why it's happened but there are very few matches this season where Charlton and Welling don't clash. I thought you could nominate a club so that you didn't clash. All down to the inept FA again I suppose.
Ok , I'll print out loads of those posters then :) What I'll do is leave posters in The Bull, The Anchor, The Plough and The Turnpike plus any other pubs i end up in. Leaving some in Welling Library would be a good idea to i think.
I work at a local train station i will try to get permission to stick a few posters up there, with the thousands of people that use it we only need a few to take notice to make it worthwhile.
Why not have a full page spread in the newshopper/bexley times with the next 2/3 home games advertised, advertise in Bexleyheath broadway. I know its been said before but get in touch with the kids through their schools, especially primary schools as children would probably have to go with a parent or two which equals even more numbers and money. What about some sort of loyalty system where you get money off a game for attending a certain number of games. These days it often comes down to cash but once you get a few people hooked they will come back and bring friends/relatives with them.
The club should be getting hold of this issue as when I was a kid and first saw the wings in 1988 the crowds were double this even for a smaller fixture. I think it was about £.180 for adults and £1.50 for children!
Will the club be doing the easter eggs for children again at the Dover game on Easter monday? If so then advertise this.
Oh and if the team can keep up the current results that will help too!
Birtie, get over yourself. I also travel the same miles to see Welling, but (as I have said on a previous post), to attract new locals, it is best that we try and clean away the smell of fox p:ss and clean up the bird mess before charging them 11 quid to get in.
I love Welling, and was introduced at a young age where you can catch the footie bug, but I am affraid Welling do far too many things wrong off the pitch to raise those numbers.
Yesterday was a real eye opener, as you see things you don't normally when you invite guests!

Fully support The Trooper in what you say but to attract parents with children we do need to clean our act up with the swearing. A while ago a players wife/girlfriend was in the stand with their small child (don't know who as child was shouting out come on daddy and cheered when welling scored). Not only did we have the C word from begind the goal but a fair few Fs from our assistant manager. The child was shocked at the use of the F word and the mother was forced to explain the man didn't know any better. I am sorry but call me old fashioned but there is no need for such use in front of young children. I would not wish youngsters in my family or my friends kids to experience this.
Swearing is not a problem exclusively at Welling. When it comes from the pitch and benches how can it be banned on the terraces?
Couldn't agree more. I am not seking a ban just self regulation. I swear and when I was working in an all male environment I swore like a trooper. However when at Welling I control my verbals otherwise I would get a ban for the comments I would make at the lino's. I can recall Barrie having to speak to a manager from another club a couple of seasons ago as he was totally OTT.
So at woking there were no kids in the ground. Thats a bit pot and kettle.
I have been known to be very sweary at games. I like to think if kids were very close i would either not be as sweary or move to a different part of the ground to abuse the ref and the oppo :)

I think that was Tony Finn's wife and kids. She was often there.
Jamie Day's wife was there on Saturday but didn't have the kids with her this time. Maybe she can have a word with the bench about their swearing which was much worse on Saturday than it normally is.
The team where Barry had a word with the assistant manager was Crawley so it was a few seasons ago. He was a real scumbag of the highest order. The crowd were constantly telling him to curb his language but he just replied "F*** off".
Quite simply if an oppo manager is effing all over the show record it on your phone and email the league.
I swore at a ref at Hampton but i only had the welling bench and hampton subs within earshot i think although i have a big mouth.
If its swearing near kids and excessive swearing and then they refuse to move or calm it down then action should be taken. If its around other men and not within earshot of kids then i think its a mans game and a mans day out.

I printed out five of those posters and left them at the barbers this morning. Oh and the barber said he'd put one up in the window. It's the barbers opposite the Paddy Power bookies in Welling highstreet.
Good idea, Tom. I see quite a number of clubs' websites produce a downloadable match poster every month or so, or even for every home match. It saves on printing costs and distribution. I think this could catch on with the Wings. Not much use me distributing it in my neck of the woods though!

Yes lets go all PC and let other teams do it to us and work the ref, then we can just roll over.
Playing good football with a hit of nasty stuff is a good mix. Daisy and Parky chirp a lot at the officials andthe oppo and long may they continue. About time we learned how stand up for ourselfs.
What protection have Sam Hurrell and Louis Faz had this year, they must be black and blue with bruises.

Just seen this thread. Forwarded the poster on to my dad who's going to stick it up in his shop window. Told him to get some fellow shop owners down Blackfen Parade to stick them up too. Nice work JGFC, as long as you keep making the posters I'll keep putting them here there and everywhere!
If you keep making the posters, then I'll keep printing them out and 'strategically' placing them around the local area :D
Would it be possible to make up a poster just for the Margate game, as it isn't mentioned on the poster you created Jgfc, and i don't honestly think that most people know there is a game on on Tuesday. Maybe if you make one you could mention the fact we've just stuffed someone 7-1 :)
On a side note, i was glad to see quite a few Welling shirts in the clubshop, with more to come in time for the Dover game. They've even got tops in my size!
