Lidl are doing Spitfire, Bishops Finger, Hobgoblin and Pedigree at £1 for a 500ml bottle. I went in yesterday and there was mountains of the stuff whereas usually they only have half a dozen bottles. They were also advertising Courage Best and a Bates football themed ale but I didn't see any of them there.

This is really good value. I bought some Pedigree in Makro last week and it worked out at £1.08 a bottle and I thought that was cheap.

I never used to like Courage's beer. I always found it too gassy and a bit acidic. Since Wells and Young took over the brewing however it's now a really nice pint.

Yeah, got some beer from Lidl's yesterday nearly all £1 a bottle : Hobgoblin, Bombardier and Banks England Ale. Also got a bottle of Asahi dry for £1.49 whch is top stuff :D

I never used to like Courage beer either, but i had a pint of Courage Best in the Plough and Harrow a few weeks ago and it tasted alright.

I like these beer treads :D

I shall have to think about the possibility of giving Ale threads their own forum if the threads keep coming.

I was really surprised to learn that Asahi is brewed by Shepherd & Neame. They also brew Sun Lik, Hurlimans, Orangeboon, Holstein and a few others.

Yay for Shepherd Neame then :D Hurlimans is good stuff, but there's a reason why it's nicknamed Hooligans :)

Dogs Bollocks is brewed by Wychwood. I think it's about 5.2%.

Milk Street brewery do a beer called Beer so you just have to ask for a pint of Beer. Another beer I had yesterday comes from the Marble Brewery called Pint. Also from the Blue Monkey brewery I had 99 Red Baboons.

How to get in trouble with your girlfriend: chapter 1.

Go to the Cropton brewery tap with her, she decides she is going to buy and asks you what you want and you say you'll have a pint of Two Pints please? She then thinks you are trying to set her up! (the beer is called Cropton Two Pints)

How to get in trouble with the MD: chapter 1.

Out on a celebratory evening after a project completion and MD asks what I want to drink. A pint of Boggart's please. MD thinks he is being set up so asks me to order it. When I actually received a pint of beer he was quite happy to order it in the next round!

(Boggart Hole Clough Boggarts Best)

Any of the Piddle brewery range is good for drunk schoolboy humour!!!!

Yes, it was a bit of fun in Christchurch a couple of years ago ordering a pint of piddle :)

Someone brought me back a bottle of beer from the good old USA once. It was called Horse P1ss Beer.  It wasn't bad. Part of their profits go to help disabled jockeys.

Welton's of Horsham produced beers called Goldenballs and Beckenbauer for the World Cup. The latter wasn't selling very well on Saturday. A year or so back Harvey's produced one called "You Wouldn't Like It" as a special to mark the 3,000th real ale at a pub in Lewes.

Beers are back in Lidl including a Banks golden ale which had sold out today. Not much Spitfire and Bishops Finger left so get in quick.

Just a few partaken having had to drown me sorrows after the England game

If anyone fancies a free pint of Young's Bitter then log on to dialarch@youngs.co.uk and look for the offer. All you do is register then print off the email they send you. It's for the new Young's pub opened at the old Woolwich Arsenal.

There's also a mini beer festival in Roses in Hare Street soon. Not sure what the dates are.

What are the prices like in the Rose? £2.50+ a pint like the majority of pubs? I'll probably check that festival out at some point.

For CAMRA members, I think it's £2.00 a pint. I just joined CAMRA, £14 for over 60's and for an intoductory rate of 15 months. For that I get £20.00 of vouchers to use in Wetherspoons. Vouchers are 50P off a pint so I'm £6 in profit.

On Tuesday, Welling playing against a team i couldn't give a crap about is going to be the last thing on my mind believe me :D

A little tip. Unless you want to get smashed after all, don't buy pints (i did that in 2002 and paid for it :O )  Buy thirds, as you'll get through a lot more different beers that way, you'll be surprised at how little you've spent compared to how much you thought you spent and also now and then you'll get served a half instead. Owing to me doing rather well on Ebay this weekend, i'll be making the most of my visit on Tuesday :)

GBBF on Friday myself as The Hamsters are on. See if it is like 2003 when they opened up with Purple Haze and half the punters smiled knowingly and the other half were going 'What the foxes hat!?!'

Also going to the beer fest on tuesday,
if you want some advice (and maybe you don't)
don't go on friday or saturday.
It's too busy, most of the beer has run out and it's full of tourists!!

by the wayh book your tickets online for a discount (www.camra.org)

Ticket booked in advance, Hamsters only on on Friday and I think the first time I saw Otway there was 96. Also, it is a very short session if you commute it from Stafford!

So are you going in the capacity of the News Shopper's roving beer correspondent now, as I believe that is the trade session?

If you do 5 hours at the festival, then go to the Holmesdale match afterwards, you'll think you are at the greatest match ever :D
