Gills fielded a very youthful looking side with only Leon Johnson and Jon Wallis with first team experience Danny Knowlws in goal for around 80 minutes until replaced by youngster from Nigeria Frannie Collin played in attack until replaced late in the second half.
Former Gills youngster Danny Lawson scored for the Wings after 15 minutes when he put in a deep cross from the right that hit the upright and ricocheted off Knowles into the net
Che Stadhart scored two goals in quick succession a few minutes after the interval to put Wings 3-0 up
Gills left back Luke Howell pulled a goal back for Gills after 86 minutes before Daniel Moore put the Wings 4-1 up a minute later
It was a good test for the young Gills against a strong Welling side who were on top throughout and could easily have doubled their score
No trialists on show as far as I could see

Another very competent performance from the Wings with some of the old Welling spirit on display. Ade seems to have made some very sound signings with a good balance in terms of experience.
Past experience has shown that pre season results can be deceptive for all manner of reasons and making predictions about the coming season on the basis of friendlies has proven unreliable on many occasions. With the exception of the mad half hour in the Grays match, this years performances have had a very positive feel with the whole team playing positive football and working for each other. I believe that we have the potential to finish the season in a play off place rather than Ade's publicly stated target of a mid table finish.
You never know PVR may once again become one of the grounds that teams dread coming to. We supporters have a major role to play in that by giving vocal encouragement, especially if things aren't going too well. All too frequently in the last few years the players have had to suffer negative comments from the terraces at the first sign of things not going well which is the very time we should be getting behind them.
Roll on Sat 13th.
