Defence looked weak in 1st half and looked more solid in 2nd.

Healy looked very good on the ball again as did the boy left midfield in the 2nd half.

Not me, never went. Is on official site, Sam Billings played so wasnt a full first team. If you score 4 you aint done bad but we are used to tonking them.

Could be a trivia Question, Which England Cricket International scored a goal for Welling United... Says he was born in Fawkham which is where Corinthian are and the Billings Dynasty is based, so must be the same fella.

I wonder if Hengist will confirm..

Very entertaining game.   Only Mitten, Day and Andrews missing from what you would expect our first choice team to be.

Welling struck the woodwork three times so the score could have been a lot higher.  Another great performance by Obersteller, definitely my man of the match.  Healy played very well too, seems determined to prove everyone on here wrong. Set up several good chances for others as well as scoring himself.

Also great credit to Erith Town for a pitch that seemed nearly as good as ours.

We won and scored 4 goals and that's all that matters. Well done to Healy for scoring a goal :)

A local cricketer / footballer to watch out for is Adam Ball (17 year old)
went to BETHS school in Bexley

Now signed for Kent and played youth cricket for England
Was also at Aresnal as a young football player

Despite some comments above, I can confirm it was a boring pre-season friendly with few defenders making tackles or risking injury. Both attacks, although dis-jointed, had some decent spells and chances, but the game itself was little more than a training exercise for all. Defending of two centre-halves for Welling in the first half was worse than poor and Erith should have had more than two, although we should have had 7 or 8 ourselves.

Oh, and the pitch wasnt that good Greendale !! it had javelin and hammer-throwing damage all over it.

Re the pitch, several people sitting near me said how good it was.  From our vantage point you could not see any damage so you must have been much closer.  The ball still seemed to run and bounce true anyway.

As far as the game is concerned, I can't see how you thought it was boring.  There must have been well over twenty shots on goal with good goals scored by both sides and some excellent saves by the Erith Town keeper.  While it's true that there were no reckless tackles made, surely that's how you want PSFs to be.  When E&B players kept kicking Welling players up in the air in a PSF a few seasons back, we were all up in arms about it.

Slow start by welling .
Erith took game to us fair play to them, but class showed in the end.
Welling should have been in double figures
Erith never in it second half.
Pires will have to track back bit more than he his.

Should jordan johnson be kept he cant play central midfield.

Pires will have to help out Obersteller more and has been only 4 or 5 yards in front of him when he comes forward (Which is fine but if Jack goes on then Pires had to cover and break up the play or win it back if Jack gives it away). Jack is covering so much ground and getting Welling going offensively.

Pugh is running his absolute balls off and is everywhere and holding up the ball and winning knockdowns. Pires could push inside a little to help win balls and free up Pugh if Stella is going to do so well coming forward.

I thought the young Billings played well and Joe Healy was a revelation.  He held the ball up well, had good distribution and a fine turn and finish for his goal.  Jamie obviously had confidence in him to sign him up, and Joe has taken his opportunity with style, so far, to try to prove his doubters wrong.
Cracking goal by Tommy Whitnell (with a good assist from Pires) answered by an even better goal by Erith.

Bertie would you agree that you cant have Healy playing if Pugh is on the pitch as you wont have someone free to score for the most part (of course they will score sometimes), but two players holding the ball up and winning balls into them will be providing for others in the main.

I fancy Daisy to get a few this year, hes having lots of shots and they are all good ones. Hes also running his balls off all over midfield. He scored a ripper against us one year at home from about 30 odd yards when he played for the Frenchies and should score up to 10 a year for his ability (6 as a minimum).

It is going to be difficult to choose who to go for...nice position

Pugh MUST start...so who with......On the assumption we can get Cumbers on the pitch then I would add Whitnell to the pair

Pugh supplied Tommy last year

With Billings playing against Erith is there any news about what is happening regarding the reserves this year?

Mark, How do you get both of Cumbers and Whitnell on the pitch with Pugh? (unless you are 2-0 down with 15 left) , It would unbalance anything weve been working on in pre season.

Its one or the other alongside Pugh battling for the second strikers role with Pires left wing.

If thats not working second half you have Healy and the one left out of Whitnell and Cumbers to make changes. Or perhaps Clarke ,if Cracknell does enough to get the shirt alongside Daisy in Midfield.

I think Healy looks very good when playing in midfield with Jamie. Looked a class act the other night. Kevin your right defending was poor in 1st hald , With Andrews missing and Parky only playing 2nd half hopefully no need to worry.

Agree with that.

Jamie has some nice problems and its up to the players to keep their shirts as we have decent players waiting for a chance.
