I'm not worried about this. It's winding up ORDERS that would worry me. However, saying that, Cardiff City have just survived their fourth winding up order this week.

Well, thia a bolt from the blue!

New owners (or not).

Club with financial problems.

re the winding up order - maybe we can try for Portsmouths lawyers.  They seem to know their way around this subject.

What the hell is going on?

Despite all the "banter" that gets thrown around on here by certain members towards us, no-one wants to see a local club be under the threat of winding up. All the very best from DFC and look forward to playing you over Christmas and rekindling old rivalries/friendships.

It's a winding up PETITION that has been served. It's an important difference. This matter can be easily sorted out by the club.

I didn't see that one coming. I have no idea who this potential new owner was. My worry is that if the club were using a new owner to sort out financial problems - and now we don't have one - where does that leave us?

Do we know how much we owe? Problem is that now money will be diverted from the team to pay for lawyers.

Well as I am dim on such matters...what is the difference between a petition and an order AND how much space is there between a petition and an order

Do you seamlessly move from one to the other??

Try

http://www.detini.gov.uk/wind_up_company.pdf

I conclude we must owe more than the couple of grand it takes to start the process!

As seamlessly as your ability to pay or argue the toss with the judge.

I am presuming HMRC are going after any and every football club that owes them percentage wise decent money. This could actually be a good thing if everyone is nailed by this and there are not regional variations.

As I said, no expectation on this season. It does make you wonder why we haven't tried something like a draw for the shirt sponsor.

However, if we have been paying what we cannot afford I do not expect us to be touting ourselves round other clubs\forums for sympathy. And if that meant asking the supporters club team to represent us for expenses and beer money to survive, don't be too proud!

Too right. We have criticised other clubs for living beyond their means and now it looks like we may have been doing the same. I hope that there is some other explanation.

I think the future sits around getting a buyer for the club.......I think from what we read that we were close to a buyer then he has disappeared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the letter it appears he has gone on holiday in Spain!!!!

I don't agree J - as an honest person who pays my taxes every week, I think it is right that they go after people who don't pay.  Hundreds of thousand people will be losing their jobs over the next few years - if people paid what they owed then some may have their jobs saved.

I worry about the "substantial five figure sum" mentioned in the article.

For every pound, Welling, Portsmouth, Dover in the past do not pay in tax, someone else has to make up the shortfall.... and that means you and me the private citizen normally. Scuse me if I like that idea less....

This level of football is supposed to be about being real. I am glad I know where we are now, I don't wish to support a falsehood

i totally understand where you are coming from but it's easier to take that point of view when it's someone else!

and id rather they put this much energy into mrs 5 kids in big council house on benefits or the illegals that get massive handouts than football clubs who are good ways of bringing a local community together

biggrinbiggrin

fact is football clubs for me shouldnt be top of the hitlist as i could name loads of other stuff that should be targetted before the likes of a small football team (who lets be fair are easy targets where the might of the bbc wont be unleased on the hmrc like it will if they crack down on more pc targets)

Stafford's right, the HMRC seem to be after every club in the land. Which, ultimately, could be a good thing. I keep hearing rumours that the Spanish game is deep in fiancial mire, so if they are doing it to keep the game in check (and not their own gains...), maybe it's not a bad thing.

I do hope this can be sorted. And this new owner who seems to have disappeared...That all sounds a bit dodgy. Surely, if you're serious, you'd tell people before going away.

I do not believe HMRC will be the only creditors.

And I certainly do not believe someone's livelihood should be screwed over a game of football, as could quite easily be the case.

I would also point out that the first we know about it is when it has gone nuclear which as a punter of 25 years plus is entirely in keeping with what I would expect in one regard, if surprising in another.

Now imagine if we had have got promoted...

HMRC are more agressive these days in pursuing overdue accounts and in particular football clubs. However I believe that the judges are aware of this and generally allow the clubs sufficient time to work out a recovery plan. HMRC don't like the fact  that football creditors debts get cleared before non football creditors and as such are prone to take legal action earlier than they would have in the past to try and ensure that they get their money.

And how worried would you be if you were E B & Q at the moment? Is their ground arrangement sustainable if we're not about? Suppose at least VCD could then find a ground of the required standard! biggrin

E&B aren't my concern. I'd rather our reserves played at PVR.

I'd be happy at this point if we can afford reserves! (and that includes if they are free)

Did I say I was concerned

Maybe one way of helping to sort our problems out would be to get rid of the reserves. You can bet they've thought about it. The reserves are a bit of a luxury.

Been reading those posts and it's funny stuff :D Here's my favourite, 'All the best to Welling and their fans, except one, hopefully you will survive this and build on what Jamie has started.'. I wonder who he could be referring to :D

Completely out of the blue this one, always thought we were conservatively run, let alone a new owner!"

Lets hope we can either make arrangements or pull this one off. Sadly its a sign of the times particularilly in football but I dont see why they should not be run like any other business. If you dont make provision for tax which is an inevitable every club is asking for trouble.

As a Dover fan it's good to see JGFC getting what he deserves, how many times has he trotted out the 'begging bowl' taunts at us over the years.
This will have shown him these things can and do happen to any club, none of us the supporters, know whats round the corner.

Just have some excitement along the way is what I say, I genuinely hope for the sake of the 99.9% of decent Wings fans that things pan out for the better.
