andrews got poleaxed and he neve knew who to book. He is a really poor ref. Cumber was bright as was healy. Faz went on left halfway through half. We need to pass it weve resorted to hampton tactics. Hampton will struggle this year. They are just long ball anywhere team.

I thought ref was okay today. Sorry to disagree JGFC. We lost our way in the second half - one or two players lost their way as soon as they came on the pitch.
The bloke talking on the phone was a joke - he was even saying that there is a minutes silence to the person he was speaking to. Shame on him.
I thought the game was ok, nothing more than that. Hampton were dreadful. The referee didn't have a clue, and spent more time laughing than paying attention to what was going on. He must have been sniffing amyl nitrate, as i didn't see anything to laugh about!
Optimism for this season totally gone out of the window after yesterdays performance. Poor start against one of the worst teams we're going to come up against this year. The absence of Clarke cannot be replaced by any player in our team at the moment, so centre forwards will find it hard to score goals. As for Pugh and Cumbers as a partnership, I cannot see it working as Cumbers drifts to the left, yet can't kick with his left foot, which management would need to address asap if we want to pick up points.
start ofeach half we were fairly good. After that we were less effective and gave it away. We still created some guilt edged chances at least 4. They created little.
First game, rustyness, uncertainty which will have been cleared a little.
Get behind them, NONE of them sodded off when they had the chance, this is a very good squad.
Hampton are hard to play its in your face and long bombs.
We ran our socks off yesterday.

Depressing but true. Do you recall one cutting ball through the midfield?, and how their number 6 wasn't done for pace. Now sit down and think about it, I think you'll find you know nothing.
I thought the way we started the game yesterday really well and though we lost it a bit but had it not been for a couple of great saves from their keeper we would have started the season with 3 points instead of one. I certainly don't see any need to be pessimistic.
It was certainly a day for testing the strength of the Macron shirts.

First game last season, lost 2 - 1 to Woking. Fair result, we were pretty crap. Fast forward to nearer the end of the season, we humiliated Woking 5 nil at their gaff. A certain Mr Andy Pugh score 3. Just goes to show that the first game's performance is not usually a benchmark for the whole season.
I wonder if Peanuts has every watched a full season's worth of football before. The first 3-4 games of the season are certainly no indication of how the season as a while will turn out. Look at Man U, who pretty much always start badly and seem to end up at the top (not that I'm comparing Welling to Man U, obviously).
Welling started last season fairly indifferently, but had a strong middle-season. I also recall our first season in the Dr. Martens after relegation, when we won our first few matches and were top of the league - look how that turned out.
Let's give it a few matches before posting messages of doom, although I think most messages will be positive in a few weeks.
Quite right Moo. Jamie will have learnt somethng about his side yesterday and will work on the difficulties. He has the players to do it and things will improve. Mind you - away at Dover and then Havant isn't the easiest two games!!

What i am trying to say, same as the Woking game at home last year "we were pretty crap" the 5.0 win came about because of 6 different changes. Check your stats

Well there were a few great balls as everyone saw. Signs of good passing and pace and creating chances 4 or 5 of them, please name me one real goalscoring chance they created as good as our best 4 or 5?. Nobody will say we never fell away after 20 mins in each half, but on balance we deserved a win.
It wasnt an all singing all dancing performance, but the players worked hard and it was the first day of the season. News of a positive meeting and money raised will take some weight off of Jamie and the players shoulders and Saturday was an ok platform to build on.
See you at Dover peanuts?

Because hes a stopper and thats how they play. We did create passing moves, get inside them and make chances we never took them.
It was a fragmented game. In patches we were quite good. Lets build on that. Its not as if we gave them lots of chances or failed to create openings at at times our passing was good and link up play.
We need to not launch it and to cut out giving the ball awy cheaply. Theres plenty that was encouraging. Get behind them, they know what was good and what could have been better.

If my hands were not in my usual straight jacket, then both my deformed hands would have been up.
Disappointed? Now the football season's started I'm allowed out of the institution for a couple of hours, all be it with my medical staff. I'm never disappointed. No matter what the score!

.......we will play much better against teams that dont turn up to park a bus......we will play better against teams that try to play football....yes we need t learn how to play against the cloggers of the like of Hampton but.......
Disappointed we didn't get the three points but pleased that we didn't concede. Fat Boy Lovett made a couple of good saves and Coyle really should have scored with the free header second half.
Do agree that we lost our way at times but it is the first competitive game of the season. We didn't expose their No 6 enough but I am confident that we will score goals with the forwards we have at our disposal.
Would like to give some credit to the often maligned Mr Sambrook. I thought he played well in the holding role second half - kept it simple and made a few telling tackles. I would say he was possibly our best player in the second half.
I think Mr Sambrook is better than a lot of people give him credit for. I don't think he is a full back but can fill in at centre back (MOM for me when we beat Bromley away last season) and did well in the holding midfield role in the Second half.
I agree that Andy Sambrook was excellent. I seem to recall him playing that position once last season (Worcester away?) and thought he was one of our best players.
A little bit of creativity has been lost by the cruel injury to Lee Clarke and Dean Cracknell's absence from the second half suggests he might be struggling.
Unfortunately there is now an embargo on signings so we have to carry on with what we have but although we failed to score on Saturday we were far better than Hampton.
Dissappointed not to win? Yes. Ready to give the season up? No chance!
Sambrook filled in well and often was composed and played the simple ball well. Impressed with him since pre season seems to have started the season fitter and more focused.
