I believe it was Mansfield, but I'm sure someone will correct me, who a couple of years back offered "free" entry to a home game.
The idea was that entry was "free" but that donations were encouraged. It meant that all the regular support came along as usual, and they found the vast majority of people still paid the normal entry of £10. However, it attracted a wave of new support, many of whom were happy to pay a reasonable sum by way of donation anyhow.
I seem to recall reading in The Sun afterwards (fair enough not the most accurate source) that their gate for that game went from a season average of 2500-3000 to an enourmous 7000.
It vastly boosted the amount of money raised overall as the additional people through the gates, albeit many at a lower cost, led to a greater income. In addition, the amount of pies, drinks, programmes etc were greater.
Even more importantly they won the game because the huge additional support spurred the players on.
With us doing so well in the league, touch wood, why not offer something like this for the next home game ?? Barrie mentioned at the supporters meeting some weeks back that there were only 280 paying adults through the gate for the game that day so therefore circa £3000 in income. I would be quietly confident that if we advertised properly a deal like this, with a few weeks notice as it is until the next home game, that we could boost the crowd enough to still bring in the same income, but hopefully in doing so gain some "floating" fans for the future.
Ok, and would that necessarily be a bad thing Alan ?? They would all want a burger and a can of coke at least. Next time they might just come and pay their fiver ... or bring their Dad.
Ill bang on the same drum, i still havent seen a flyer thats been done, NOT ONE and while i know that they have been at the club this week . Thats pretty piss poor.
We cant even advertise a meeting for our own fans.
We only advertised the non league day 3 days before the game?
We can have all the ideas but if you havent got the people to execute the ideas and run campaigns... you are donald ducked.
This is NOT a finger pointing excercise at ANYONE, mearly a call to be organised, make the right decisions and use all of the skills of the fanbase.

On that note, if we are to try raising crowd figures and money brought in can we open the tea bar under the stand again and send the concession packing. Lets make sure all money spent at the club stays with the club even if they employ people for match days and buy the food stock.

Bee Cee is right - a burger and coke goes to the people running the stall - they pay a rent - at least that was the case. I have said before that I think the club is missing a trick here. The rent is low but I expect profits are high. It doesn't cost much to make a cup of tea or a burger.
Hi JgFc, you say you have not seen a flyer that's been done. I would like to point out that my family have delivered to the following roads in Welling: Warwick Road. Stuart Evans Close. Lewis Road. Granville Road. Bethel Road. Gipsy Road. Palmiera Road. Marlborough Road.
Also to 5 shops in Pickford lane shopping parade (close to Bexleyheath Station), and "Ozels the Hairdresser" and the "Convenience store" just down the road from our ground.
May I add, that "Ozels" have flyers at their till area, and are encouraging customers to read them, so perhaps it's not so negative as you suggest. Cheers mate.
I didnt mean i have not seen people delivering. I KNOW we have people like you, dogkilla, lou rob and others out walking the streets. You people are amazing and really doing your bit.
I meant i had personally not seen a copy in email or on the site where i and others could download or print off or email. I think thats shocking, We just dont use the tools we have.
IE the access to the flyers/design has been slow in coming to the dancefloor.
Not taking away a thing from the guys who have printed 17000 flyers, but there could have been access for people to download a few hundred themselves. I cant do that and neither can a lot of people if i havent seen the flyer? Or werent told about a meeting where they were given out. Ive asked about 3 or 4 times on here casn SOMEONE upload the flyer. Nothing.... Its not hard whoever designed it could upload it, the person who sent it to the printers could upload it, someone could scan it and upload it. It gives everyone quick access to it.
We need a working committee because 2 or 3 are trying to do everything and some people havent got a clue whats going on. We need to organise and communicate urgently and tighten up a bit before we amble on not maximising openings.

Fair point, and I can now see where you are coming from. Yeah, things would certainly move much quicker using the technology that we have at our fingertips online.
My gut feeling is that unless you actually pass the flyer directly into the hands of some people, a lot will not be bothered to download their own, having said that, there will be a number of others that would choose to help in this way.
I feel that a very large number of supporters, and friends, have responded so well in this present crisis, and agree that "organisation" is the missing factor right now. Most people are willing, but need to be kept closer to the action, and obviously this is where IE helps a lot.
Lets all remain positive, there is going to be mistakes made along the way but we can still win this battle.
I just cannot understand why the commercial side has not reported back on their efforts so far, as this is so important to us all, with the weeks passing by and "no news updates"
All that is addressed in a point ive made to Bruno that he is going to run by Russ. Basically if the Commercial Dept arent hitting the ground running we need to see what we can do in the time that remains.
Im convinced we have people among us who could make a difference and communicate with everyone that truly care also.
As with the whole scenario what ever we do or intend doing needs to be set in motion in the next week to give us 2 months. Hopefully the club will get friendlies and raise a bit of money elsewhere that along supporters efforts can reduce the debt and encourage people to get involved.
I have a feeling that a lot are waiting to see if the club help themselves before joining in or investing.
The club may have a few ideas up its sleeve but we need communication especially now we have raised around half the money with half the time left. Its possible if we all tighten up and organise things and communicate.
