I popped into PVR this afternoon and bumped in to Barry, he told me that the talks are progressing and the two sets of solicitors continue to work to a conclusion. He added both parties are keen for the deal to complete and the club will update supporters and interested parties when they have more some news.

He did say there are things that must be done through the right channels and these things sometimes take a short while to complete and its the fact that there were a few things that all needed to be done properly.

I came away with no real concerns and the feeling that things are happening but thats just my own personal view.

Barry did say that to his knowledge there is no meeting being called by the club tomorrow after the Storford game, so the only meeting would be called by supporters but i havent heard of a meeting so assume there is no meeting at PVR tomorrow.

Sounds good, whenever solicitors do stuff it always takes longer than desired as they communicate through snail mail!

Here's hoping everything goes smoothly.

It will be interesting to see whether the new investors keep Messrs Hobbins on. There would certainly seem to be a role for them bearing in mind their wealth of experience and the one thing I have always felt is that they care deeply about Welling United Football Club

Fingers crossed that things go smoothly and a deal is reached. It would be good, and in the interests of continuity and the history of the club, if one or both of the Barries (Barrys) is/are kept on.  But that, presumably, is in the gift of the mystery prospective new investors/owners - and they may have their own people and we have to respect their wishes as well as those wishes of the Hobbins family.

Hopefully our club can be saved and still compete in the BSS, with or without Hobbins family involvement.  Either way it will be the end of an era and something we as supporters, and the club, should mark in some way.  From a Sunday pitch in Danson Park through to the Conference - a dream of two schoolboys helped by their dad becomes reality - via thrills, happiness, upsets and much grief along the way.  We owe the Hobbins for forming and persevering with the club we love.

What is the latest news regarding the proposed takeover of the Club?

The critical date of Wednesday, December 1st is getting closer and I trust that the talks are still continuing!

I dont like this at all. Buyers will be calling the shots not the club as we get closer to the deadline.

To be honest unless the takeover goes ahead we look to be dead in the water so if we have to swallow what the potential buyers are after it may have to be a case of so be it. Let's just hope the boys continue what they are doing on the pitch whatever happens, COYW!

If the buyers drop out then the fans will need to save the club.

All I read on hear is speculation, which is by the way understandable, however this will take a short while to complete, when you consider the lease of the ground transfering to new ownership, this doesn't happen in 24 hours, have you ever bought property, its takes ages when the solicitors get involved and freeholds and leaseholds are involved.

Lets see what happens by next week.

That's all very well Matt, but as a home buyer, I would expect liason between the seller and purchaser.  How long has it been now?  Are there any untold events that we, the paying public are not aware of?
With all due respect, we pay our gate money, support the club home and away, yet still recieve diddly squat from the club.

Lets hope this changes under the new owners then.

Let's hope your right Kevin - I don't mean to be negative, but I feel there is something that is holding the process going through

Im an estate agent so I know how frustrating and delayed these things can become, sometimes for no good reason, but equally sometimes for a real reason that one party doesnt want the other to be aware of. Im happy to trust the Hobbins of course, just wary that as time runs out so do the options. Not like we can put the thing back on the market for someone else if this collapses at this late stage. Its s**t or bust, and that falls into the buyers hands.

The difficulty is whilst there is no news there will be speculation as has been said. At the moment, no one knows what " the investors" are doing-taking over the debt only, taking over the club maybe even having to raise finance of thier own.

A lease will be worthless unless all parties are happy incuding Bexley council, the freeholder adn I assume EB&Q sub leasehiolders. Matt is right these things take time but only if what we know is the right information

kevin you are thinking about this from the wrong angle. if its a takeover surely we want the buyer to be calling the shots? the less they pay the more they have to invest in the team once the deal goes through. harsh on the hobbins i know but thats life.

Hmm, fair point, but all the same, I would rather it was done sooner than later.

This really is dragging on. The last update was the 15th Oct, over two weeks ago.

Fair enough there maybe be no news but at least a line on the official site saying something like 'both parties are still in talks, more news will be released when available' would surely be better than silence.

Indeed. A straightforward house move can take a long time due to solicitors so all the business with the change of leasee and sub leasees can take ages while the legal eagles line their pockets.

I recently had reason to use a solicitor and a simple piece of legal work took two weeks and I ended up signing with less than 90 minutes to spare.
