I aint been able to get to any games at PVR lately as I work most saturdays, and I dont live local anymore, so I wondered if those flyers advertising our home games that were spoken about ever made it to local shop windows.

I only ask because I was at a wedding in Cheam at the weekend at couldn't help but notice flyers advertising Sutton's home games, with the heading of 'support your local team'. I saw dozens of them between Cheam and Epsom. I know it seems obvious but it is priceless exposure that surely brings bodies through the gate. If there are none in Welling and Bexleyheath etc then it is a missed trick.

I have not seen in any shop windows in Welling for the last few seasons.
They used to be put up in the Bakers along from Cruisin' Records & a number of other shops on a regular basis once.

If we do get some printed up it would be a good idea to get a couple in the new Tesco's/Costa coffee, no doubt there will be a lot of people that never used to come into Welling to shop & now making them aware that we are here etc.

With the amount of money we owe some of these local business's Im not surprised the number displaying our fixtures has dwindled.

You sure you are thinking about the right pub j? The Rose is in the middle of Bexleyheath broadway  and although i dont go in there that often i have always found it friendly and they have a good range of beers including different guest ales. Last time i was in there they have Welling fixtures up in the gents toilet and they also advertised the auction night.

A couple of months ago I visited some of the pubs in Welling and Bexleyheath and asked them if they would display a Welling fixture flyer.

Hopefuly they are being displayed in the following pubs.

The Plough And Harrow
The Turnpike
The Belgrove Social Club
The Rose and Crown in Welling
The Guy Earl Of Warwick
The Wrong Un
The Danson Stables
Rose in Bexleyheath
The Robin Hood and Little John

Glad to see that these have been noticed in some of these pubs.

I do have a few flyers left and will bring them to the home game today if anyone wants to take them from me.

Yazza, can you save two for me, I have spoken to 'Jealousy' the barbors on Welling Corner - they will have one & hope to get the Wimpy to do the same.

Can I find in the clubhouse at halftime? or where? Cheers, Sean

Not a problem. I will be in the clubhouse at half time. I'm usually with Danson Mark and The Man in a Green Coat (Dave). MARK.

Sutton Utd flyers in Epsom....never, not after the pitch battle between  the  Epsom posse & the Sutton, Rosehill posse after the Greg Edwards, capital radio road show in 1981

hello Mark (Yazza) & All -

Bit of an update for you re the 'home fixture list flyers', my son (Jake) & I went round a few places with this letter he put together...

Hello,

My name is Jake and I am 10 years old and I am a Welling United FC fan and season ticket holder.

This areas local football club is Welling United; At the moment the club is trying to raise as much money as possible and soon as possible, otherwise we may no longer have a club.

In helping get extra people coming along to the games I would like your help by displaying the attached fixture list in you window or shop please.

Thank you very much for your time,

& the fixture flyer's. The following places in Welling now have them up in prime spots;Wimpy (Welling corner)

Jealousy (Welling corner - Barbour's)
Worths (bakers opp' Morrisons)
Big breakfast Cafe (opp' the Guy)
Tony's Cafe (Welling corner)

& hopefully Tesco's community notice board as from tomorrow.
This is one proud of his club little lad who wants to do his bit in helping the cause.

COYW! (Fat Cabby)

Fat Cabby I applaud you. If you are in Welling pop a flyer into Chefs Choice, me and Dan put enough money into that cafe on a Sat morning and they are always asking about Welling. Chefs Choice is next to Barclays.

Spills, I dropped a flyer into 'Chefs Choice' this morning & they promised to put it up. So can you check or ask about it next time you are in there please?
Checkin' out all these cafes is not to good for the waistline - doh!

Also got to meet a very nice lady called Manjit Bassi who is the 'Community Champion' at the new Tesco's in Welling this morning who was very positive in helping out & assured me that the fixture list flyer I left with her will be up on the 'community notice board (at the main entrance as you walk in) very soon - so look out for it folks!biggrin

I did also leave her with a programme from last Saturdays game & mentioned that they could always sponsor us or advertise on the hoardings etc. But any matters to that would have to come in writting on headed paper from the club, so if anyone from the club is reading this please, please give it a go as now seems as good as time as any.

Don't forget that Eric posted and said he did not get very far with Tesco - don't want us getting our hopes up, although I think that they are missing a great opportunity here.

You are "spot on " Chelwing. I had a very cooperative response from the actual management of the Welling Tesco's, but once you entered into offering hoardings etc, you are then dealing with the head office, and the response gets very negative I'm afraid. I wish you all the best Fat Cabby & Son, and well done for your efforts so far.

I don't see why Tesco wouldn't sponsor a hoarding and place an ad in the program. I remember a few years back Somerfield, or some other supermarket chain had a board around the pitch. Even if them sponsoring us right out is out of the question, a hoarding or two + ads wouldn't go a miss. As they say 'every little helps', or is that Asda!?

Thanks very much Fat Cabby and Jake for spending the time distributing the flyers around the shops in Welling. A fantastic effort.

Unfortunatly I have run out of the fixture flyers. I will have a word and see if I can get another batch produced. Hopefuly they will be available for our next home game.

Will keep you all informed as to the progress.

On the subject of supermarkets, Morrisons in Welling are holding their staff Christmas party at the clubhouse. Another few quid for the coffers.

That is excellent Moo. Perahps we can tap them into putting up some boards - especially facing the road - given they are in direct compettion with Tesco it should help. Something on the main stand would help their cause too.

Can the bar staff get the Morrisons managers plastered and get them to sign up for sponsorship?

I asked my son. who is a manager in Morrisons months ago about sponsoring
Welling FC. He made inquiries to which I placed the answer on the forum, stating
Morrisons sponsor enviromental causes only.

By way of financial support to OUR club they said they would, and have, booked
their works Christmas Party via my son.

Trying to get people plastered for your own personal gains
is very shallow and not the way to do business.
