It was a great evening. Simon did a brilliant job and everyone that attended seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Thanks again to him for giving up his time.
The sad thing is that there were only around 30 people there At just £3 a ticket the night was an absolute bargain and as with the rock and roll night it is very disappointing that people do not support many of the club's events. It is very demoralising for the people who put a lot of work in in arranging them.
These events are pitched as fund raisers for the appeal. SOME people will think £3 a go say 50 turn up £150 (plus bar takings), IF the tickets were more expensive and pushed down peoples throats (by the bar, club shop, someone going round the ground, the tannoy, in the programme and available to buy via a link on the website) i think more would buy them and attend and feel it would make a difference (The evening).
All of the above is not meant to take away anything from the people working hard, but they are scratching their heads saying why have less than 50 people attended the last two music nights.
Lets say you could get Andy Townsend / Barry Fry down for an evening with night (with a disco after), Get some catering to do meals at the table and cherge £40 a ticket (Get posters up in shop windows and local teams forums). Pay the catering a tenner a head appx and you would make 3 grand plus bar takings.
This is just to show that its all in what you put on, what can be raised and how to market them.
Has there ever been a decent comedian at PVR? , If you turned the wings bar into a comedy store type place once a month with tv comedians in it would that bring in decent money? My old rugby club on Plumstead Common used to be a comedy venue and got some well known stand ups.
Have there ever been a group or vocalist that ISNT rock/punk?
Heres another thing re supporters groups, if you had a membership you could have votes or ask them what they would like to see in entertainment. Has anyone contacted all the entertainment agencies in the south east and asked for showreels of their artists?
Have we ever tried to sell tickets to local people or people that are not already Welling Fans? A flyer and posters with a multimap and directions from the Station and Buses would help if we tried this.

As good as this may have been, with all the hard work put in by many people, I think this goes back to the same old problems... Unless you're on this site probably no-one knew about it because of the lack of local advertising (posters etc.). It was only put on the official club website 2 days ago!! Not enough time for some people to organise things like babysitters or the like.
I'm glad people lay these sort of things on, and I try to support where I can, but bear in mind with a home crowd of about 600 people the messages do not get out to far.
Hopefully the new bunch will have some sort of business knowhow and ADVERTISE!
Me personally i think, i dont like punk and if the disco was rammed the club might make 400 or 500 profit. But you arent gonna sell tickets to 25% of our gate when it isnt pushed down their throats, so i have a gut feeling its p1ssing in the wind. Maybe some feel the same?
Another thing is.. The Bar at other clubs is open weekends or sunday lunch and becomes a hub, this is a natural advertising opportunity. If its open then locals have a chance to use the place and become attached to the Football Team and they will support the events.

Firstly, I would like to thank those who attended last night and a particular thanks to Simon Wright who gave his services without a fee and despite the low attendance kept the place buzzing until 11.30.
The attendance was indeed a disappointment and somewhat of an embarrassment from my point of view, however, those who did attend had a good time as did those who attended the previous band night. What I have to say is that on both of these evenings those who attended were almost exclusively not regular visitors to PVR.
Both events, (with the exception of the official website for last nights event) were advertised widely throughout the ground and on this forum for months leading up to the event, were advertised similarly on the various Welling United related facebook pages with updates, flyers were distributed and announcements made at the other events held at PVR, I dont buy a programme but I understand they were included in the programme on the WSU page, and certainly in the case of the last Band Night was included in a the flyer where around 7,000 were delivered to homes and businesses. From my perspective it appears that with the exception of the end of season event as things stand the support for events support comes from outside of PVR.
Past experience has shown that trying to run an evening with tickets priced at around £40 is a non starter with the last such event having to be cancelled. With the limited voluntary resources available there is no potential for organising such high risk but potentially high return events. This type of event I would suggest will always be a non starter without there being a healthy commercial setup from which you can draw support.
The final point made by JgFc combined with a sound commercial department is in my view the way forward. To illustrate this, the Rock and Roll night held at PVR attracted from memory around 30 people, most of whom came via contacts and yet just 1 week later I attended a gig they played in the United Services Club in Sidcup and though there were a few more from the rock and roll hardcore the venue which is at least twice the size of the Wings Bar was packed.

Bruno wasnt the last one Tommy Smith who has feck all to do with Welling and i wouldnt cross the road to see him and wasnt that cancelled due to a clash with a game or something?
These evening withs work for other clubs and tickets are substantially dearer than £3.
Also what i think has affected the recent ones is that with the investors in talks people havent seen that these are vital or that they will raise figures that will make a difference.

Well done for organising this and the rock night and giving people the chance to attend. Maybe we need to almost bully people (including me) to buying tickets at the matches.
Give me £3 and heres your ticket. See you such a such a date and thanks for supporting the event.

Had a great time at the disco last night... thanks to all that arranged it... shame more people didnt attend...(i wouldnt have needed to drink soooo much had more of you bothered) lol
as Bruno pointed out most people there were not CURRENT Welling fans... my reasons for attending were quite simply, as an old (as in i used to follow them, not that i'm old) Welling United fan i wanted to help save this club.... so that being the case, i was amazed that current Welling fans didnt attend....
I know Bruno and Greendale have to be diplomatic, so I'll do the undiplomatic bit... This is YOUR club, you all talk a good story about wanting to save it... so put your money where your mouths are, and attend the next event.. drink loads, and give YOUR club some money.... hope you now feel bullied enough Jgfc
Bruno.. let me know if they buy tickets... I have a few weeks left to do some more bullying...

Advertising is vital. I know that flyers were distributed all over the place and that it was regularly pushed on here and on facebook but were there any advertisements in local newspapers / 'rock and roll' magazines or websites?
As for last night, had I gone and found there was no ale I would have soon left again. Today, again, there was no Real Ale so I did not have a half time or full time drink in the Welling bar.

The Rock and Roll night was advertised on a London Gig fb page, a rock and roll forum and, a kent rock and roll fb page with almost 1,000 members and flyers were left at a couple of Rock and Roll gigs (with the promoters consent) The problem was that there was a rock and roll weekender at Hemsby and a Marty Wilde gig at the Orchard, neither of which we were aware of until it was too late. Those who came were going to neither and decided to take the opportunity to see Vernon and the Gi's at the Wings Bar rather than the band who were playing at the Pavilion in Battersea.
As far as drinks available last night go its just as well there was a poor turnout or I would have been even more embarrassed than I already was as we didn't even have a bitter on tap!!!
