Hes free to post on here what he has done, what his ideas are, what he has in the pipeline, if hes read the ideas on here.

When we last asked the club what has the commercial manager done.. THEY SAID WE DONT KNOW.

So if people are wondering what hes doing, he could tell us? He may even get some help.

PMSL

If hes not going to communicate and actively do anything and cry when people say whats he doing then thats his problem.

Obviously in the months hes been there hes raised tons.

Well done, carry on, all is ok.

Communication is a pretty important skill in networking and trying create relationships in raising money.

Perhaps thats why in 4 months?? we havent heard hes done anything?

I wish him all the best in his tireless efforts and commercial activity.

Its good to talk.

How do we know it does? And if all hes done in 4 months is find one person who might invest... its nothing to get the bunting out over is it.

Jose, the easy thing is for him to communicate as i said he might get some help and ideas. If hes gonna be aloof and distant and throw the toys out its not good is it.

Indeed only saying he should communicate because we arent aware he is doing anything or being successful, if he is then tell us about it and he will get support.

This is typical of the approach at this club. All done in private conversations - give this guy a ring, have a word with Barry. They distance themselves from the vast majority of people who attend Welling matches.

If he is reading this - why do you put something on here or even better an update on the web site. Not asking you to give away secrets but a message about the direction of travel would be good.

Jgfc... I think you should phone him and ask him the questions... also ask him what the fans can do to help.... I agree with you that he should come on here.. but if he wont, we need an intelligent person to call him, and as you seem intelligent i vote that you call him....

Judie

The new guy at woking came in and their commercial dept had gone poor... Anyway hes busy everyone knows him hes trying loads and people can see this. Hes brought out merchandise, events , new sponsorship deals and is getting the news out.

Its NOT MY JOB to try and find out what hes doing. By being seen to be active people may appraoch him with ideas or a wish to sponsor or advertise.

If he wants to learn a little and start communicating he will get praise and support it also opens up routes for people to come to him.

The ball is in his court. Thats all i have to say on it, if hes being successful then well done but none of us are aware of it or what hes even done or is doing, Dont think thats right... do you?

Hang on a minute - we have a commercial manager????

When was this announced? and how long has he been in the job? Did the club announce his appointment in the programme or online? did i miss a thread on here?

I'm not being sarcastic but I thought we had Barry Wallis, then no one, then recently a couple of guys who were in and out in a flash.

Richard? whoever he is good luck and i'm glad we have someone. Why don't we know? I, and i'm sure others, could pass on contacts, ideas etc (if we knew).

Only Welling could have a commercial manager that takes over 5 hours to log on....
he should be on here reading the idea's being put forward, and advising the fans if these things are possible....

come on Mr Commercial Manager.. they need your help NOW

5 year olds know how to use the internet and he takes more than 5 hours to log on? Is he still trying? Does he need help with his keyboard? It's laughable. He could have sent a letter to the club and got James to put it up on the website. If he was that bothered he could have used someone else's internet connection, if he trusts them that is.

Morning all,

After reading all of your comments I felt that is was time to come on here and communicate with you what I have been up to. Since becoming commercial manager at the request of the Manager Jamie Day,I have have been trying to broker deals with lots of potential sponsors but because of Welling very well publiciased problems with HMRC, these companies beleive it or not are reluctant to do sponsor a club that in theroy may not be alive 3 months down the line so as you can appreciate its very difficult to get a sponsor or people who are willing to put money into the club. Now I update the club as & when with any new info that I have but unless we have any concrete to tell you then nothing can be posted on the website or on here. You also need to remember this is a PART TIME role for me and do this on top of another job in my spare time.

Now there are a lot of you who just sit behind your computer and critised people when you no real idea what they are up doing to help the club. If you would like to have a chat to me, pm me and I'll give you my number, give me a call and I will lsten to any thing you have to say, but please dont have a moan that I havent done anything because the club was in this mess long before I agreed to help out.

Rich

Understand what you are saying - but a lot of us thought you were being brought in to help us in our hour of need - it seems you are using our difficulties as an excuse for why you haven't been able to achieve anything.

I understand that this is  really difficult in our present situation - but you knew that when you took on the role.

Not saying I could have done better but then again I am not a commercial manager.

Rich

Thanks for your post, and I sympathise. I know first hand that sometimes the best efforts can go unappreciated.

What are the best ways of raising this money, would love to hear your thoughts/advice. I have no money to give, but 13days worth of hardwork and time.

Hmmm

What new packages have you come up with for sponsors/advertisers
What new sponsors or advertisers have you come up with
What events have you pencilled in to raise awareness and funds
What previous sponsors have you got back on board (old leads)
Have you targeted all the shops in Welling/Bexleyheath/Sidcup and sent them flyers?
Have you developed a mailing list via post/email/sms

Rich are you telling us that we havent achieved anything yet since youve been commercial manager? Yes its part time but you are paid via commission. Lets be brutally fair here, most people have never even heard of welling united let alone any HMRC case so that shouldnt be a huge issue and only one to approach if they mention it.

The key is bringing in new money and attracting new businesses. In 4 months i would have expected a few on board?

If you see yourself as someone who is helping out in part time to bring in a few quid, thats probably not what we need, we need someone who has some balls, communicates and has lots of ideas and can nail new deals.

Excellent that youve posted at last and hopefully we will see your skills and some new initiatives.

Im a bit worried you cant spell commercial in your user name and the post is littered with spelling mistakes not typos, as what should have been done immediately was getting some bumph and literature spun off to email or hand out to contacts.

It seems to me that Rich is trying to bring in investment and a sponsor rather than being diverse in drumming up commercial activity as a whole.

In that case good luck, but we probably need a commercial manager to smash the local area to bring in smaller advertisers and raise awareness.

There have been many amazing ideas put up on here.

Hi Rich,

I think it's a wise move if you keep communicating on here as much as possible.

I thought the days of keeping any information (not sensitive info obv) away fromng the fans were long gone but I find it staggering that the club has kept the fans in the dark for such a long period.

Even if Welling get through this, it's very clear that it needs a clean broom from Top to Bottom as you can't run a club as a secret society and expect to progress.

Good luck,

Dev

Rich - this is the problem at Welling Utd. We often have a go because we're kept in the dark.

You're right we have no real idea what's going on, what's been going on and what will go on.

Good luck but to me a non league club with limited attendances requires a full time commercial manager/PR/marketing role. We need someone on the blower, walking the streets with presentation packs etc etc drumming up business from an old dears tea dance to a regular company business do (mon-fri). We have a prime location at PVR and it needs to be used.

Hopefully your part time role will help the club and until the role is changed I wish you every success.

We all wish him the best - his message just came across as very defeatist - what's the point we're all doomed. Not going to get much business if that is reflected in any discussions

Thanks for your belated reply Rich and I can understand how frustrating it must be to try and raise money for the club. So, let's hit the nail on the head then :
1. You were given the task to raise money for the club
2. You applied your business acumen to the best of your ability
3. You haven't communicated on here as an update
4. Local business's don't want to know
5. Local business's are owed money by the Hobbins?
6. Training grounds are owed money by the Hobbins?
7. We are shafted as a club?

It would have been good for updates, but if your hands are tied, I understand.
This appears deeper than it looks, you have been given the unenviable task of raising money in a current financial depression.  The idea was good, but many years too late.  The blame is not laid at your feet, but, as JgFc and others have stated, what have you done?
What can you do?

Have we shafted every firm in Welling, might be an idea to invite them to the meeting on Saturday and get them to air their views. Maybe we can get some on side.
