I popped into Lidl at Welling about 3:00PM on the off chance that they'd still have some cheap beer.
I was in luck. They still have the 5 for £5 offer on Bishops Finger, Spitfire, Hobgoblin and Pedigree. They've still got some of the Masterbrew at 99P and I also found a stock of Courage Best at £1 a bottle. There was quite a bit left even after I'd taken 4 cases.
The Masterbrew are about half way down in the middle. The Courage's is up near the cold meats in the middle.
I never used to like Courage beer much but since Wells & Young took over the brewing it's so much better. It's 3.8 so a nice session beer.
I also got some of my favorite tipple, Young's Bitter in ASDA at 3 for £4 so I'm set up for the holidays now. They had the Young's Golden Ale as well for the same price.

That made me laugh for some reason :D I'm not sure who it was on here that mentioned the 5 for £5 offer in Lidl's the other day, but i partoook in that offer, and added to all the other booze I've got I'll be ok for drinks this Christmas :)
I only go for the beer and maybe cat food. I haven't seen beer cheaper anywhere else.
Also, I didn't think M&S sold beer.
So embarassed in Tesco today had to get a drink called Fosters for my son. The looks I got as I put it on the checkout. Next time I will ask if it comes in a brown paper bag or if I can pick it up at the side door.

They certainly do and it is contract brewed for them but the last time I looked it was £3 a bottle, which is expensive for a non bottle conditioned ale!

I'm amazed that you can put that word without changing it to F05ter5 or something!!!

It could have been worse Dave. You might have been asked to pick up a bottle of Bailey's. Oh Christ I feel sick now.

Just saw the end of a programme on BBC2 with Oz Clarke and Hugh Dennis. Partly featured the Meantime Brewery in Greenwich. Seems they are brewing real English lag#@ which is more acceptable than the import types.
As an after thought maybe we could get meantime in the club house after all its only the next door borough.

They don't produce much that can be pulled through handpumps and their (very good) bottled beer tends to be expensive so the profit margin would be low.
However, the Westerham brewer (he of British Bulldog) has told me in the past that he would happily have his beers delivered to PVR. His beers are often found in pubs in the area so it could easily be dropped off, and some bottles could be bought at the same time.
British Bulldog at Wetherspoons, the dog's gonads!
I seem to remember this was a good pint the last time I was in there. On the avialable soon was Abbotts Reserve at 6.5% which was a great beer but not too many in a session. I hope I haven't missed it this time around
I shall be christening my Welling tankard on Christmas Day with god knows how many bottles of real ale :D And with that i think I'll take my leave and I'll be back after Christmas whenever we play our next game. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all :D
