I am currently reading the Bromley Boys and a mighty fine read it is too. I was intrigued that it has a copy of a press pass on the inside cover for a game in November 1969 - could have been 1968. It says the game was at the Welling Ground and when you read the book it is clearly a game against Bexley. I was wondering therefore when the ground became known as Park View Road?
Later it talks about playing away at Erith and Belvedere at "Park View" - is that PVR?
Both the games where in the Kent floodlight cup - which was in addition to all the other cup competitions. I think we should start a campaign to bring it back. We need more meaningless games on cold dark nights
Thanks Guys - i agree with CJ - hard to put down. Perahps we could sell some in the shop. It is a great read for all those who follow non league football. Many of the themes - turnover of players, managers - rubbish grounds and disapointing crowds are with us now.
If all us non league fans were to tell others what a good product non league is, and put it in the minds of those who, can not,or do not want, to afford to watch the pie in the sky over publisied over rated pro game, Im sure once given a try many would come to there senses and become fellow non league fans. As has been said many times by others on this forum, we need to get the word out there, critically for our own servival, and for the future of our game. If each and every one of us made a point of talking to our mates, work collegues ect it will eventually have an effect. We must find ways to draw people who would watch live games to get out and join us.
Perhaps it can be a topic at Saturday evenings meeting.
The first thing i would do is look at Lewes, their gates are up and they are struggling, you have to really smash the community with info. We have done well this year as have Braintree, crowds are poo. Hit the community to get the gates up.

Agree with Chelwing it is a cracking read and about the reality, pain happiness and joy that supporting a team at our level can bring.
I even lent it to Bubbles and he enjoyed it, although I did not know that he could read at the time
I have been trying to find out what team colours the Bexley United team played in, can anyone help and let me know please?

There's a few programmes and fixture cards for sale on eBay and in one you can just make out that their colours were red and white. Also, they were known as The Kingfishers.
Hello guys, haven't been lurking on here for a few years. I supported Bexley United from about '72 onwards up to their demise. Can't remember us ever abbreviating the ground name to PVR or calling it Park View Road even. It was just Bexley United's ground. Predominant kit colours over the years I went were white, black and red. In the final years the kit was similar to Fulham's but with a bit of red facing on the shirt. Earlier and more popular was a white shirt with two red hoops around the middle and the second strip of all red with two white hoops. Memory fades over the years, though I have heaps of old progs buried away somewhere. Our most hated team was Dartford. Even though I was sixteen when we went under, I shed a tear - I do hope you guys don't go the same way so good luck there.
